Principals Report Updating Court Orders – Please

inform the office of these orders

Our office staff is busy updating

school records including court

orders that some families adhere to.

It is important that the school is up

to date with this information. Please

call the school on 4446 0038 to

inform the office if your court

orders have changed since they

were lodged with the school or check and see that we

do have a current copy at school.

Seating Benches for the Chicken House

Do you have any lying around?

Our chicken house has been completed by local handy

man Daam. In fact the orchard planting, vegie patch,

worm farm, composite bin and chicken house have

become a focal point of our school. The children are

beginning to make connections about the importance

of becoming more environmentally conscious.

It would be nice to have some seats around this area

and thought there may be some old bench type seating

in gardens that don’t get used. If you have one that

you’d like to donate to the vegie patch we’d be happy

to pick it up. Please phone the school to let us know.

Parking in the Turning Circle-Using the Drop Off

Zone

Thank you to those parents who do not park in the

school grounds. The staff car park is for teachers,

office and support staff ONLY. Please adhere to the

signage at the top of the turning circle and use the drop

off zone. THERE IS NO PARKING AVAILABLE IN

THE SCHOOL FOR PARENTS other than those who

use the disabled spaces and have permission from our

school to do so.

A reminder to our new families that the children can be

dropped off in the drop off zone in the morning only

between the sign posts. The general rule is to move

through the turning circle slowly and drive as close as

possible to the steps located at the front of the school.

If cars are already dropping children off then move

behind the next available spot. Sometimes parents may

need to wait a few minutes to move up into the

designated drop off zone. Please do not drop children

off at the top of the drive way, wait your turn until

there is a space available.

When dropping children off please do so in a safe

manner and as quickly as possible. Parents may move

up to 3 metres from their cars and may have up to 3

minutes to move off, however most parents are able to

move off well before this time.

A last reminder that the turning circle can never be

used to park in the afternoon and is not to be used for

pick up in the afternoon. Please follow this rule in our

school.

World Environment Day – Threatened Species

Competition

Lucas Zerafa has won the Kindergarten-Year 1

division of the World Environment Day Threatened

Species Competition. Judging was tough and there

were large numbers of amazing colourful creative

crafty entries from students in the Shoalhaven. Lucas

did a beautiful craft picture of the Green and Golden

Bell Frog and has won a family pass to the Shoalhaven

Zoo and a nest box for the garden. All artworks are on

display in the council foyer. Congratulations again

Lucas.

The Boy From Oz

The Boy from Oz opened to critical acclaim at the

Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre with 25 of our

students taking to the stage last weekend. Mr Dinnie

told me that our students were a credit to themselves,

their school and their family.

A big thank you goes to Mr Dinnie for organising this

opportunity for our students and to Mrs Mison for

assisting over the weekend with supervision.

2013 Kindergarten Enrolments

It will be time shortly to anticipate and submit school

enrolment details for 2013. In order to complete this as

accurately as possible it will be important to know of

our anticipated local Kindergarten enrolments for

2013.

If you have a child starting school next year please call

into the office and pick up an enrolment form or call

the office and we can post one home. If you know of

any local families who do not receive a newsletter and

who have a child starting Kindergarten next year

please ask them to contact our school office.

Changes to staffing

I have been fortunate enough to have been given an

opportunity to participate in a Mentoring School

Education Director Program for 3 weeks. This begins

on Monday Week 9 and concludes at the end of Week

1,Term 3. Mr Burns will relieve as Principal during the

period that I am away. Ellena McTavish will teach

3/4B and continue with the teaching and learning

program set out by Mr Burns. I’m sure the 3 weeks

experiencing the School Education Directors’ role will

be an interesting and valuable experience. I look

forward to seeing you at the Trivia night and again

back in Term 3.

Demountable Classrooms

There have been some ongoing problems with the

demountable classrooms. The Asset Management team

have been down to conduct a number of tests. They

have been testing the air quality in the top

demountable, and looking to see if there have been

structural changes due to the ongoing roof leaks in the

end demountable at the foot of the car park

The results of the air quality have come within normal

limits with the recommendation to keep the windows

open as much as possible to allow for cross ventilation.

The demountable at the foot of the car park needs the

roof sheets to be taken off so the work place

assessment team can assess the structural integrity of

the building. This will be completed in the school

holidays with recommendations made once the

structures have been assessed.

I will keep the community up to date with progress

with the results and recommendations early in Term 3.

Have a wonderful fortnight.

Strive for the Highest,

Susan Hilliar, Principal

Trading Cards

Parents please remind your children to keep trading

cards at home. There have been many incidences of

loss, theft and unacceptable trading at school resulting

in students being upset. We would appreciate your

assistance in this matter.

Mrs Mison, Assistant Principal

Boy From OZ

For the parents and community members who attended

the AMTC performance of the “Boy From OZ” last

weekend, you were treated to a spectacular

performance from the cast and students from

Cambewarra Public School.

Thank you to

the fantastic

students who

gave up their

time on

Friday and

Saturday

nights and

Sunday

afternoon to

support the ensemble in singing. “I Still Call Australia

Home”. The audience response was overwhelming and

all the students should feel very proud of themselves.

A big thank you must go to the parents who supported

our performance by transporting the students to and

from the venue and to Mr Dinnie who not only sang

wonderfully but also organised our participation.

Students involved included: Angelina Cusack, Brydie

Honer, Alex Parsons, James Batson, Lauren Singleton,

Laura Baker, Connor Parsons, Lily Carter, Pip Carroll,

James Hardie, Joel Lawrence, Belle Jeffrey, T’blet

Taylor, Abby Patton, Charlotte Graham, Max Legzdin,

Maddison Gossage, Meagan Davis, Harry Bice and

Kye McLaren. Students will be performing “I Still Call

Australia Home” at the next whole school assembly on

Monday June 18.

Thank you also to Mr Burns and Mrs Rogers who

assisted on Friday and Saturday evenings. Mr Burns

has commented how he loved wearing the sequins.

Yours in Music, Mrs Mison.

Asian Study Expo

Stage 3 students recently visited Bomaderry High

School to experience an Asian Study Expo. Several

schools in the area joined together to share highlights

of their studies about Asian countries. Our students

showed artwork,

demonstrated

Korean dances

and played

drums. They also

had the

opportunity to

participate in

workshops such

as origami,

lantern making, calligraphy and painting headbands as

well as viewing exhibits and eating traditional Asian

foods.

Student Exchange Australia New Zealand In June-July 2012 Student Exchange Australia New Zealand Ltd will be receiving

exchange students from Europe, Canada, the USA and Latin America. Our new

arrivals will live with a host family and attend a local school for 2-10 months.

As we plan for their arrival, we are keen to hear from suitable families located in

CAMBEWARRA who might be interested to host a student. Host families come

in all shapes and sizes, backgrounds and ages. Please note that all our host families

are interviewed in their homes and carefully checked for suitability.

All students have at least basic levels of English, would attend a school in your

local area and live the life of a local. Our group of students cover a wide variety of

interests and hobbies. This is just a small sample of all the students who will be

arriving. Our staff members will be happy to discuss which student might be best

suited to a family.

Hosting an exchange student can be a truly rewarding experience. It allows a

family to experience a foreign culture first hand, be exposed to a new language

and pass on a bit of our own culture. They might even make a friend for life!

"Becoming a Host family for an international student has been much more than we

expected. We thought it would be great for our kids to learn a little about another

language and maybe something about another country. Instead, we gained another

family member and some great new friends, her parents from Germany. We get to

show off our country and learn so much about hers. What a fantastic experience

for all of us.” Melissa, Host Mum

"Being the youngest and the only one left at home I was looking forward to having

another teenager in the house. While Charlotte helps me with my French I help her

with her English lessons and I have taught her many Aussie words and sayings.

We both love to shop and shop and shop..." Grace, Host Sister"

Hosting Kirstine has brought our family closer together. We‟re doing things we

used to do when our kids were little, like boiling the billy, having a BBQ and

baking apples up the paddock. She‟s helped us remember how to have fun when

we‟re working and take time out for adventures.” Sharon, Host Mum

“It‟s been a fantastic experience so far...It‟s been great having an older brother for

our young kids. Simon has been a fantastic role model...Simon helps around the

house a lot. One of the first things he said to us during the first couple of days he

was here was what should my chores be? I was delighted to hear him say

that.” Victoria, Host Mum

Host Families Needed in June-July

Experience Another Culture in 2012 In June-July 2012 Student Exchange Australia New Zealand Ltd will be receiving

exchange students from Europe, Canada, the USA and Latin America. Our new

arrivals will live with a volunteer host family and attend a local school for 2-10

months.

For every exchange student there is a host family somewhere in the world willing

to open their home and their hearts to an adventurous young person. Host families

are what make the exchange experience possible.

I would like to inform Cambewarra Public School students and their families

about this. It is an exciting opportunity to experience a different culture without

having to leave their homes. It's a great way for them to learn about a new country

and share an unforgettable experience with the entire family!

Host families come in all shapes and sizes, backgrounds and ages. Thousands of

volunteer families have enjoyed hosting a visiting teenager from another country.

Many of them come back every year and host again. By opening their home and

hearts, to an international exchange student, families can also:

Make a life long link to a family in another country

Learn about another culture

Share the beauty of Australia and our culture

Gain a new family member

Contribute to International goodwill

Develop a friendship that will last for many years

Our students bring with them their own spending money, health insurance and a

wonderful attitude and desire to learn about their new host country. The whole

family….and relatives and friends….will grow and learn as they all get to know

their new „son‟ or „daughter‟ from another land.

All students have at least basic levels of English, would attend a school in your

local area and live the life of a local. Our group of students cover a wide variety of

interests and hobbies. Our staff members will be happy to discuss which student

might be best suited to a family.
