Dear Parents Thanks to everyone involved in making our sports carnival such a great happy day, all the parents who made food, the canteen helpers, and event helpers. Oxley won the day with participation and championship points. Flinders achieved the most participation points. It was great to see so many students perform their personal best and the level of encouragement and teamwork shown by all was outstanding. Thanks to Mr Johnson for coordinating the day and all staff for working tirelessly all day to give our students maximum support. Thanks to Ritchie for the constant effort providing a world class venue at our schools backdoor. The individual champion’s results will be announced at this week’s mid-term assembly on Thursday at 2pm. The SRC badges will also be presented to our 2016 SRC Committee. On Saturday I had the pleasure to attend the Macksville-Scotts Head Surf Club Awards. It was great to see our Surf WAVES program spoken about so highly. All the Surf Club volunteers that came along to help out were presented with a Surf Lifesaving jacket including Bu Annie, who was recognised for her positive contribution, coming in on her days off to make sure the program achieved success. All staff received their well-earned Bronze Medallions and Ricky Buchanan was recognised for his 100% attendance at weekend patrols. Thanks to Jason O’Donnell and the club for a great night. The WAVES program has been nominated for a Regional Surfing Award, which Bu Annie will attend on the 4th June at South West Rocks. Congratulations to Finlay Lamont, Jamie Fox-Morrison, Persia Raines and India Stephens who have been selected to join other students from schools around the Nambucca Valley to attend Leadership Training together as a Nambucca Valley Community of Public Schools (V10) group. As part of our commitment to developing student leadership approximately 30 students will attend the Grip Leadership Training in Coffs Harbour on Monday 30th May 2016. The Grip Student Leadership Conference is unique in that it concentrates specifically on training student leaders for their role as SCHOOL LEADERS. The topics and content of this conference all focus on what the students can do RIGHT NOW. The goal of the conference is that student leaders will gain a clear vision, a solid understanding and dozens of ideas for their time as leaders in their school. Thanks to Tonya Worling (Stuarts Point PS) and Sara Landers (Medlow PS) who will be looking after our students. We want to make a washing area for the students to be able to wash the vegetables when they are taken from the garden so we are looking for any kind of donation of sinks to make this a reality. On Monday the mighty Scotts Head Whales

played their first match in the NSW Small

Schools Knockout Competition. Drawn at home

to Raleigh PS for the first round, the team

performed magnificently, running out 8-0

winners. The goals were scored by five different

players from three different school years.

Excellent performances were put in all over the

field with the team confidently passing the ball around in an impressive fashion. The team were cheered on by the vocal

support of the whole school. SHPS will now face the winner of Wooli versus Ulmarra in the second round (home/away

TBD). C’mon you Whales!

Last week the 3/4 class made butter as part of their study of changes in states

of matter. We shook cream in a jar for 1 minute intervals to observe the

changes from a liquid to a solid minute by minute. Once the cream (liquid) had

become butter (solid), we spread it onto raisin toast and it melted into a liquid

again. What do you think we did then?

Weekly round up

The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program

has begun at Scotts Head Public School. The

philosophy of the Kitchen Garden Program underpins

three concepts.

Pleasurable: It’s fun! Kitchen and garden learning stimulates the senses, keeping

students engaged and wanting more.

Food: It’s about healthy habits for life! Students learn to grow fresh fruit, vegetables and

herbs, and prepare delicious, nutritious, real food.

Education: It’s feeding hungry minds! Students dig into hands on experiences that are

linked to their academic learning.

Last Tuesday afternoon we kicked off with Kindergarten students cooking delicious

Spinach and Cheese Mini Quiches. We harvested the spinach from our school garden

and we collected eggs from the school’s chooks. On Wednesday afternoon, Year 1/2

were busy in the garden, weeding, watering, digging and planting a variety of winter

crops!

The program will be running on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons at 2.00pm. Cooking

classes will be on the Tuesday afternoon and gardening classes will be on the

Wednesday afternoon. Classes will be timetabled for these classes during the term.

Parent or community volunteers are really welcome to come along and join in the fun on

either day.

Spinach and Cheese Mini Quiche

We need

Spinach ½ cup of milk

2 cups of grated cheese 2 sheets of frozen puff pastry

4 eggs salt and black pepper

1 cup of cream

What we need to do

Step 1: Grease the muffin tin with butter. Cut out the puff pastry and line the muffin tin

with the pastry.

Step 2: Wash and chop up the spinach. Put the chopped up spinach in the muffin tin.

Step 3: Mix together the eggs, cream, milk, cheese, salt and pepper and whisk together.

Pour into muffin tin.

Step 4: Put muffin tins into oven and bake for 20 minutes.

Step 5: Get your delicious quiches out of the oven. Eat and enjoy!

Don’t forget the Gardening Working Bee this

Sunday 29th May from 9.30-11.00 to get stuck into

those beds so that they become functional food

producing gardens.
