Term 3 ‘Learning for the Future ‘ 9th September 2015 Dear Parents & Caregivers, Tena koutou katoa BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) – E-Learning Information Evening Tonight at 6pm Here at Kamo Primary we pride ourselves on creating the best e-Learning environment for your children. In fact we were the first school in Northland to introduce 1:1 iPad classes. We would like to share our vision and ideas with you at a special meeting tonight at 6pm. We will start with a short presentation on what we’re currently doing in this area and where we’re heading, with a particular focus on BYOD – Bring Your Own Device. On the night, there will also be time for you to explore the ICT/e-Learning equipment with the help of our students and staff. Cupcake and Cookie Fundraiser On behalf of everyone at Kamo Primary I would like to thank Lisa Hansen for making fantastic cupcakes and cookies for Fathers Day. I’m sure you will all agree with me that the cupcakes Lisa makes are outstanding and very yummy. The $870.00 raised will go towards new school sports shirts for our students. It needs to be recognised that Lisa donates 100% of her time and ingredients to these fundraisers, with all proceeds going to the school. Road Safety Reminders We all need to be acutely aware of the increased volume of traffic around the school and surrounding streets particularly in the mornings and afternoons around school pick up and drop off times. With this in mind please remember that, when driving on Bush Road & Clark Road - Please be on the look out for our students, particularly those who are walking along footpaths, crossing driveways, cycling or riding scooters, and those crossings roads, on Bush Road and Clark Road respectively. Please use safe driving practices when dropping your children off outside the school gates, stopping on the zebra crossing, or stopping on yellow dotted lines to let your children out is prohibited, as it is very difficult for our road patrollers to see up and down the road, and it is illegal! N.B. People who continually park on the yellow dotted lines will have their registration plate details passed on to the Police for follow up! Staff Car Park Please remember that the staff car park IS NOT TO BE USED as a drop off or pick up area. We have special services buses and taxis that use this space before and after school, as well as couriers and other staff who visit the school. The staff car park is an unsafe area to drop off or pick up your children, visibility is poor and the space is very limited. People who repeatedly use the staff car park for this practice will be spoken to directly by me. Loud Shirt Day On Friday 18th September we will be participating in the ‘Loud Shirt Day – Help Give Deaf Kids a Voice’ to raise funds for deaf children with cochlear implants and hearing aids. We would like everyone to put on their bright animal print shirts, wild animal onesies and loud shirts to support this wonderful charity. Please send along a gold coin donation with your child next Friday to show your support. Zero Waste CompetitionAt our school we want to be a zero waste school, so we are going to be holding a competition for zero waste.

We want to be a zero waste school by having zero waste lunches, keeping our environment clean and growing new healthy plants.

We hope that you could help us by making sure your children have healthy plastic free lunches. We also suggest that your children will take part so that we can be a healthy school.

The prize for the winning class will be lunch with Mr Ward.

GROWING VEGETABLES MADE EASY

Growing your own vegetables is easy and fun. Kids are often more willing to eat veges

Just a few recyclable containers will help to get you started. Cut the top off a plastic milk bottle and it becomes a pot. Recyclable containers that make great plant pots

tin cans plastic bottles

buckets ice cream tubs

milk bottles yoghurt pottles

Preparing your pots

make some drainage holes in the bottom

place some small stones over the holes

fill the container with rich soil ready for a plant
