The children thoroughly enjoyed re-enacting the walk from 25 years ago when the school was opened on its current site. The buildings haven’t changed but the technology in the classrooms has changed significantly. We had many positive comments about the students’ excellent behaviour. They felt very special as they walked along, being clapped and cheered. A special thanks to the Highway Patrol officers which closed the intersections for us. Thanks must also go to the organising committee of Mrs Eke, Mrs Roberts, Mrs Edwards, Mrs Gould and Mrs Newberry. Miss Kelly created the beautiful banner. We also had lots of special guests including Mr Kevin Hogan, the Federal member for Page, Mr Ian Causley, the member of Page when the school was opened 25 years ago and Mr Geoff Gorman, the principal at the time. We were also very fortunate to have members of the Aboriginal community, Aunty Pandy and Aunty Lenore Parker give the Welcome to Country and Aunty Lenore also assisted Kerri Macleay with the Smoking Ceremony which was something very special for our school as we set out on our walk. We would like to thank all the parents and friends of the school, especially past parents and students for joining us on this special occasion. Sport has been big again with North Coast Athletics last Friday, Basketball on Monday and Touch Football today. All the children who played at the basketball day performed well, with our girls team winning and our boys coming runners up. Thank you Mr Buks. This Friday Years 3-6 will be participating in a Touch Gala Day at the Angourie Sports Fields and a separate note has gone home about this. A reminder that our major excursions for years 3-6 are coming up next term. If you haven’t paid for your child’s excursion, please do so as soon as possible. If you are having any difficulty, please come and see us so we can arrange a more detailed payment plan. Our school has sourced funding thanks to the work of one of our parents, Julie Close as part of the Sporting Schools Grant. We have had difficulty in acquiring suitably qualified coaches but have finally worked this out and so for the rest of this term on Tuesday and Thursday lunchtimes, Rod Menzies will be taking a group of interested year 4 and 5 students to develop their soccer skills. These students will need to bring along shin pads and soccer boots. On Tuesdays from 9-11, groups of year 1 and 2 students will be developing their AFL skills as part of their fitness program. The Fete, which is our P&C’s major fundraiser will be held on Friday 11/9, starting at 12 midday. Parents are very welcome to join us for what is usually a very enjoyable and profitable afternoon. Enjoy your week Debbie Woods Relieving Principal At our Father’s Day stall we will also be selling the anniversary tea towels and bags. These are a great keepsake. The cost of the tea towels are $7 and the shopping bags are $10.
