The first day of term 4, Monday 13th October 2014, will be a Pupil Free Day. Students will return

to school on Tuesday 14th October 2014. OSHC will be available on the Monday, please call

Freddy or Preeti on 0401 121 740 for all bookings.

The focus for staff on the pupil free day will be Positive Psychology as staff develop their skills in

this field. The key focus will be on developing units for 2015 as we create a new wellbeing

program for Kidman Park PS. The pupil free day was approved at the last Governing Council

meeting.

9:15am with events concluding at lunchtime. Parents and extended family

members are all invited to come along and support our students. The Sausage

There is a new yellow canteen menu which will commence in term 4. These are being distributed to families today. Please be aware of price changes for some items and make sure to order using the prices and items on the current menu only. **All lunch orders need to be sent in with lunch order bags.** These are available from the canteen or front office (50c for 10 bags) or if you prefer, are available at your local supermarket. CONGRATULATIONS! Congratulations to Dale G who had some entries in this year’s Royal

Show. He has won 5 ribbons (4 first and 2 second) He won 1st Prize in

the horticulture section for his cauliflower entry. He also won 1st Prize

for scones in the junior primary section, 1st Prize for cold water

community aquarium and 1st Prize for bubble eye and celestial fish.

SAPSASA NEWS Well done to Stephanie and Carla who represented KPPS at the SAPSASA day on Tuesday 2nd September. They thoroughly enjoyed their first time experience. Carla placed 5th out of approx. 20 girls in the shotput and discus and Stephanie ran her heart out in the running and long jump.

OSHC NEWS LOST PROPERTY BOX If you child has lost any items, please come and check on our lost property box. It is the end of term and on Friday we are having our big end of term clean up. All unnamed items remaining with the school logo will be taken to KPPS’s lost property box. Other items be donated to charity.

Bear Grylls says let your children take risks: Here's 50 things for them to try before the age of 11

PARENTS are doing their children a disservice by not exposing them to risk, according to television adventurer Bear Grylls. Bear, who takes 13 men out to a desert island to fend for themselves in his new Channel 4 show, said that it was part of being a dad to teach his three sons how to make a catapult, tie a knot and improvise a kite. His boys, he says, set up search and rescue scenarios at home. The Chief Scout is pushing for the school curriculum to be overhauled, with survival skills such as lighting a fire and tying a knot at the fore.

Bear added: “If you try to negate risk in children’s lives, you do them a disservice, because you teach them not to be afraid of risk. “There is risk everywhere, even when you go out on the street. So if you teach kids to dodge risk, you totally disempower them. “You empower kids by teaching them how to do something dangerous, but how to do it safely.”

Sue James from Gloucestershire Scouts groups said: “It’s true that children don’t always know survival skills. When we take the Scout groups out camping they learn skills such as putting up a shelter or making plate racks or starting fires. It’s learning but having fun at the same time.”

What a busy few weeks we have had in the Japanese room. The first Japanese alphabet called hiragana has been the major focus for Rooms 7, 10, 11, 12, P4 and P5. The 46 symbols they need to learn have been broken down into smaller groups,

and as they learn each set children earn themselves a coloured “HIRAGANA KARATE BELT.”

They are practising using lots of activities that cater for a variety of learning styles, based on the theory of Mul-tiple Intelligences developed by Howard Gardner. But who knew learning could be such fun? Students have been reading, writing, creating and playing with the symbols using chalk, play dough, templates, songs, group games, calligraphy, stamps, magnets, textas, card games, jigsaws, worksheets and iPads.

We are so proud that many of the students have already achieved a number of belts – ask your child what level they are up to! Please pop in and see us if you want to find out more about this term’s work, our Japanese programme, second language learning or your child’s progress. We look forward to meeting some of you during the term.

On Friday the 22nd of August Room 12 held a Bake Sale. It was held on the stage near the library at Kidman Park Primary School. Room 12 decided to have a Bake Sale to raise money to help save the endangered sea turtles. Once the class was organised and we knew what to do, we started to plan our posters. Then a few days later we started to type our posters. We made the posters because it would help us to promote the Bake Sale. After we all completed our posters we chose a partner. Together with our partners we had to go to two classes at school to promote the Bake

Sale. Holly and I went to the Learning Centre and P3. While we were in the classes we gave them our poster and told them about the Bake Sale. After school on Thursday I came home and mum and I started to make my turtle cupcakes. First we started by getting all the ingredients. We mixed them and then we cooked them. When the cupcakes were cooked, we decorated them with the fondant sea turtles and sea creatures that my mum had made. It was so much fun. On Friday just before lunch we went to set up the Bake Sale. After we set up the Bake Sale we put our cakes on the tables. Then the lunch bell went, a huge crowd came and we sold most of the cakes!

After lunch we went upstairs and we counted the money. We had raised $255.65! We donated $100.00 to the World Wildlife Fund and $155.65 to SaveOurSeaturtles.com. We all had a great day and felt very proud of ourselves.

For all students, the anticipation

was high. The middle years

students have been preparing

for the brilliant event, Expo, since

week one of Term Three. The

middle years students

have been working very

hard for this event.

Students were given a journal to

store information in. We started with

CPS (Creative Problem

Solving). At the back at

our book we wrote

reflections so the

teachers knew what

was going on through

Expo.

Shortly after the students made a mood

board, we needed 30 ideas to complete

the mood board. Further toward the end of the

process, we started to write the financial plan. Soon

after we started the business plan.

Before we knew it, it was Expo Day.

To make Expo as real as possible, we

needed a float, a stall and our

product. Our class (P3) made a profit

that will go to charities and treats for

camp.
