Principal Message

Dear Parents,

Education Week last week was a significant celebration of the broad range of programs and oppor-

tunities offered to students at our school. The theme for Education Week 2018 is ‘Today’s school

creating tomorrow’s world. Our students are being prepared for the future work force and community

with opportunities to apply the knowledge and skills they have to complex problem solving, collaboration in

groups and use of technology across the curriculum.

Education Week 2018

Monday— athletics carnival was held on Monday with Kindergarten, Year 1 and 2 enjoying activities in

our school playground, while our Years 3-6 students participated in track and field events at Pendle Hill

High School. The assistance from the Pendle Hill High School students was excellent and provided posi-

tive role models for our primary students. Both events ran smoothly and provided challenges and fun activ-

ities for all students who participated. We actually had some rain which was a real surprise but did not stop

our planned events.

Wednesday—Multicultural Day. Students were involved in dances, craft, music, singing and lessons on

Australian diversity. The day was a great success and affirmation of our school’s multicultural community.

The day concluded with a parade of cultural costumes from both students and staff.

Thursday– Open Day. Parents were able to visit their child’s classroom to experience the range of activi-

ties and organisation in our modern classrooms. Our annual art display was held in the school hall along

with a morning tea for parents.

Parent feedback on classroom visit and the activities held during Education Week have been very

positive.

Book Fair will begin next Wednesday. This is a significant fundraiser for our school. Parents and stu-

dents will be able to purchase a wide range of books from our school library each morning and afternoon

for the next two weeks.

We have a book character parade next Wednesday 22 August. There will be prizes for the best cos-

tumes. Bring your cameras as there are always great memories to capture on the day.

To assist drought affected farming communities, our school will be holding a fundraiser Thursday,

16 August. Students will be able to visit at Kindie Zoo and pat and feed baby farm animals for a gold coin

donation. Our students will really enjoy the experience with these animals and at the same time contribute

to the assistance we are providing to drought affected rural NSW communities. All donations will be appre-

ciated. While our farmers are struggling and in a serious situation, we enjoy a very comfortable life in the

city. Some rural schools are offering students showers and washing at school to assist with limited water

supplies in some towns.

On a lighter note, Parramatta Eels have been struggling this season but came back with a great win last

week. Maybe we can have a few more wins before the end of the season. Good luck to your teams this

week.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Regards,

G. Walker

4T students are safe, respectful learners.

4T examined the vanishing point

and created an artwork using

watercolour paints.

Last semester, 4T learnt about British

colonisation in history. They created

convict posters with Ms Turner.

The junior netball team As work very good together. Last week we

played Toongabbie Red. It was hard for the defenders to defend

because the sun came in their eyes. Our team tried really hard. Yashvi

was the player of the match. The score was 2 to 1. Unfortunately we

lost.

Girraween Public School has four PSSA netball teams;

junior green, junior yellow, senior green and senior yellow.

Miss Carter and Mrs Tracey are the netball coaches. We

train every Wednesday 1st lunch on the netball court.

Each Friday, we play against other schools in the district.

The junior green netball team and the

senior green netball team played very well

last week against Toongabbie white. We

have improved a lot since the first week.

Thank you to everyone who visited the Art Exhibition during Education Week. It showcased our students’ creativity and artistic flair, and represented the fantastic effort that they have

put in during this year.

A huge thank you to all parents who gave their feedback. This feedback will be used to assist us in the planning of future exhibitions. Some positives that were noted included:

amazing creativity, fantastic effort by all involved, and great for student motivation. Some suggestions for improvement include: showcasing a greater variety of artworks, using

outdoor space for exhibition, and including more cultural artworks or theme-based artworks.
