Principal’s Message

THAT’S A GREAT IDEA!

As part of their leadership responsibilities, the members of the Year 6 Student Leadership team are encouraged

to find a “worthy cause” to support, and develop an activity to provide awareness and support.

Last Friday the team presented their initiative of supporting the children attending the Happy Days Village School

in Cambodia, to the Year 3 -6 Assembly.

As we know the greatest gift we can give to children is a good education. Many of the children in this area of

Cambodia have quite a distance to travel to this Happy Days School. A bicycle would make this so much easier,

so our initiative is to donate funds to enable the purchase of bicycles for the community.

The funds go directly to the village as it is a not for profit charity developed and directly managed by the Pawley

family from the northern beaches. The Year 6 team met with Mr Mike Pawley last week and were assured that

no funds would be wasted with administrative fees and our idea could make an enormous difference to the

families of the village area.

This link is to the video that the Year 6 leaders showed at assembly last week:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yynv1Cuursk

and there is more information on their website: http://www.happydayscambodianvillageschoolinc.org.au/

The fundraising effort will form part of the upcoming Pedlars Parade activities in two weeks time. More

information about the day will be included in next weeks newsletter.

Grandparents and Grandfriends Day

Classrooms will be open from 9.30am followed by morning tea and entertainment.

Band Committee Roles in 2018

This year we have a large number of year 6 parents on our committee. Two positions that we would like to start

recruiting for ASAP are Co-President and Treasurer. If you would be interested in taking on one of these roles

or would like more information, please contact [email protected].

Training Band 2018

Instrument Blow tests were carried out last week but if any year 2 students would still like to join Training Band

next year, please contact [email protected] and we can arrange an instrument blow test to be carried out.

Instrument allocation letters will be distributed on Friday, 27 November, followed by the Training Band

Registration and Information night on Wednesday, 1 November in the Staffroom.

Stage Band 2018

Tim Collins, the Stage Band Conductor, will be holding an open rehearsal for Stage Band this Wednesday

afternoon from 3.00pm. This is a great opportunity for any IB or CB members, who are interested in joining SB,

to bring along their instrument and join in on a rehearsal.

For band members wishing to audition the requirements are: Trumpets / Saxophone / Lower Brass (Trombone,

Euphonium, Tuba) / Piano

• 1 scale of their choosing

• 1 30-60 second excerpt of a solo piece – (NOT A BAND PIECE)

• Students will also be asked to sight read a short piece

Drummers are asked to demonstrate their ability to play approximately 30 seconds including fills and rhythmic

variety in the styles of:

• Rock

• Jazz

Band members who play flute or clarinet are welcome to audition but will need to transfer their skills to a sax or

tenor sax for SB rehearsals and performances.

A note with further information and the confirmed audition date will be emailed to CB and IB members this

week.

Band and Strings End of Year Soiree
