TERM 4 UPDATES ENDINGS AND BEGINNINGS

In term 4, we congratulate the J2s who have completed their two-year journey with us. The Graduation Ceremony was held on 11 October and we wish all the students the best for their A level examinations and the start of their post-JC life.

Meanwhile, the J1s are busy preparing for their Project Work assessment. After their formal assessment, the school has lined up many exciting activities for them. The school term will officially end on 22 November and we look forward to welcoming them back next year on 6 January 2020.

SALUTING THE CLASS 0F 2019

On 11 October, the Graduation Ceremony celebrated the achievements of the class of 2019. While some light-hearted awards were given to the most punctual and physically fit class, the school recognized students who demonstrated exemplary character and outstanding personal qualities. Students were also recognized for their achievements in the cognitive fields and sporting excellence. After the ceremony, students gathered amongst themselves to share memories, take photographs and enjoy the camaraderie that they have built over the last two years.

BOUQUET OF THANKS! Looking at the mirrored walls at the concourse area, students would have noticed, from afar, an explosion of colours, flora, and calligraphy on two of the walls. As they approach the walls, they would have noticed messages of encouragement directed at the JC2 students nicely printed on coloured paper. It was the result of a very meaningful collaboration between parent volunteers and the college Partnership Committee, with the aim of providing the parents a platform to cheer our students on as they face the challenge of the A level examination. Kudos to our parents for coming up with the design concepts for both walls, for making trips to Daiso to procure the materials, and for personally printing the cards, all amidst their own busy schedules.

FIT NY CHALLENGE

The Fit@NY Challenge aims to encourage participants to be active during school holidays and promote a sustainable fitness lifestyle. We hope that through this challenge, students can sustain their fitness levels during the holidays and encourage their family and peers to exercise alongside with them. Your child can also include games played with their family members as part of the challenge! These are some of the key events:

WALK FOR RICE (13 NOV 2019) We kick off the challenge with our annual walk-for-rice right after the J1 students have finished their Oral Presentation assessment. We partner South East CDC in this event, where every kilometer walked by the participants will earn donations of rice for needy families. We share with you pictures from the previous years as a sneak preview!

IMPORTANT EVENTS IN TERM 4 AND 2020

A Level Examinations (J2) & Project Work Assessment (J1)

For the J2s, the written papers will begin from 4 November. For the JC1s, the Oral Presentations will take place from 6 November to 11 November. Parents may refer to their child’s entry proof for a detailed schedule of the A level examinations.

Post-Examination Activities (J1)

The school will still be conducting lessons and activities after the Project Work assessment has been completed. We have lined up an exciting suite of activities for students – these include leadership training for student leaders, ECG & Life Skills workshops, covering fascinating topics like SUTD’s talk on Artificial Intelligence or skills like resume writing, interview preparation and applying for overseas universities. Students can also opt for learning journeys to the autonomous universities (NUS, NTU, Yale-NUS, SUTD, SMU).

Last Day of School for J1s

The last day of school for the J1s will be 22 November. Parents are advised to make vacation plans after this date.

First Day of School in 2020 & Block test for J2s (2020)

The first day of school will be on 6 January 2020. There will be block tests for the J2 students in 2020; while students should have a restful break in December 2019, they ought to be consolidating their knowledge and addressing their weaknesses during the vacation as well.
