Term 4 - Week 10 7th December 2015 make friends, to show resilience when things are tough, to care for others and simply have fun! I would like to congratulate every student on what they have achieved throughout the year. I am very proud and honoured to serve the community of Bomaderry. You - the parents and community members - all combine to make our school the important part of the community that it is. Thank you, from the staff and students, for your participation in school life this year, and for being here today to celebrate the success of our amazing students. Achieving our GOALS Bailey from 4C achieved his goal of knowing how to work out his 7X and 8X tables. Maddy from 4C achieved her goal of completing 140 home readers and recently hit the 150 mark. Regional Award – CONGRATULATIONS Rodney Rodney Stewart is in Bateman’s Bay today attending the Regional Aboriginal Education Award ceremony. Rodney was successful in being awarded a regional prize in the ‘student leadership, learning and culture’ category. Congratulations, Rodney. We look forward to hearing more about this achievement and seeing photos from the ceremony. Dear Parents and Carers Presentation Day Last Tuesday we celebrated the achievements of our Bomaderry students and community at the annual presentation day assembly. Thank you so much to all of our families and community members who came along to celebrate and congratulate our award winners. The choir was outstanding and the farewell to our outgoing Year 6 graduates was the usual ‘tear-jerker’! Congratulations to our newly appointed 2016 student leaders as well as the 2015 Dux of the school – Captains 2016: Thomas Speer and Estelle Hancox. Vice Captains 2016: Kyan Lorber and Jasmine Thomas. Dux 2015: Nas Prachyakul. For those of you who could not make it on the day, I have included some of the speech I shared at our assembly: Teaching is a dynamic and rewarding profession. Good teachers provide students with rich, interesting and well-structured learning experiences. They get to know students and their families. They provide learning and life experiences. Teachers who provide these experiences often stay in the job for many years and should enjoy recognition of their achievements by the school community. When staff have dedicated years of service to an organisation, it should be formally recognised. And so, today I would like to present a number of Years of Service certificates. I would like to present firstly, Mrs Julia Armstrong with a certificate celebrating her 20 years of service. I would now like to invite 2 more staff members to the stage, Mrs Allison Aldridge and Mrs Sue Stuchbury. These ladies are being awarded a certificate for 30 years of valuable contribution to the Department of Education. Thank you to our Bomaderry Public School Parents & Citizens group. The P&C support our community by meeting with staff each month, taking part in decision making processes, raising funds for the school and supporting special events and programs. I would like to particularly thank everyone who was involved in the Spring Fair this year and make special mention of Mrs Tracy Bailey who has taken on the role of P&C President with amazing dedication. We work hard at BPS to enable each and every one of our students to learn and achieve positive outcomes. We hope our school can be a place where our community works together for this purpose. After all, the old saying says “it takes a whole village to raise a child”. I firmly believe there has been increased collaboration during 2015 - families, agencies, clubs and groups have worked with staff for our students. All students have set learning goals, celebrated their achievements and been supported in doing so by many people and teams. Just like all of you, I am very proud of each and every one of our students. The efforts we see them put into their learning and the way they celebrate achieving their goals is motivation for our staff. We do not only see efforts in classroom learning. We witness improvements in student’s confidence, their ability to

Kindergarten 2016 Orientation EXPO Last Thursday and Friday we got to meet lots of our new 2016 Kindergarten students. They participated in a range of activities including building, art and craft and singing. Students enjoyed meeting new friends and getting to know some of the staff at our school. Meanwhile, their parents attended the expo held in the hall where they received important information about our school and collected lots of games and activities to assist with their child’s transition to our school. The feedback from the day was very positive and we are looking forward to getting to know the students and their families better when they start school next year.

Joke of the Week Thank you to Casey from 2A for this week’s joke: What do you get when you cross a motorbike with a funny story? A Yamaha-ha!

And now … this is our ‘second-last’ bulletin for 2015. We only have ONE more Monday of school. Please remember school breaks up on WEDNESDAY 16th December.

BPS Choir Excursion Bomaderry Public School Choir has been very busy

this term. The group of 80 students have rehearsed

twice a week and performed at several events, both

at school and in the community. The first for the term

was at our Spring Fair. They performed at our

Presentation Day assembly last week and went ‘on

tour’ and visited two retirement villages – Rose

Mumbler in North Nowra and BUPA in Berry. The

residents thoroughly enjoyed the lively entertainment

that our students provided. Mrs Armstrong and Mrs

Brown would like to thank the students for their

commitment to the Choir and congratulate them on

their performances. They have represented

Bomaderry Public School splendidly.

Farewell Year 6! On Thursday night, students and staff gathered

at the Bomaderry Bowling Club for a farewell

celebration for the Year 6 Class of 2015. The

mood was one of great excitement as the VIPs

arrived looking amazing in their best party get-

up. Once inside the function room the students

were individually presented as they walked

through the arch. With the formalities completed,

we let our hair down and enjoyed dinner,

dancing, conversation and laughter. The

evening was a fantastic way to finish an exciting

and memorable year for our wonderful senior

students. We wish them all the best in their

transition to high school.

Mufti Day and Christmas Photos

On Friday 11th December we will have a

‘Christmas’ themed mufti day

for a gold coin donation.

We will also be offering a

Christmas photo to be

purchased on the day

for just $1.00.

Please return order forms with

payment on the day.
