World Teachers Day
This week is State Education Week which celebrates the exceptional work of state schools in providing high quality education across the state. As part of the cele-brations we celebrate World Teachers Day today. We have much to celebrate at Kennedy because our teachers are some of the most dedicated, knowledgea-ble, caring teachers I have met in my 22 years of being a teacher. Mrs McCullagh, Mrs Kaurila and Mrs Tessieri are all senior experienced teachers and bring many skills and talents to helping children learn. Our Guidance Officer, Mrs Lomonaco, is extremely dedicat-ed to working with parents and children to ensure all are supported. Our speech teacher, Ms. Cavallaro pro-vides exceptional speech programs to the children that she works with and our disabilities teacher Mrs Slade gives specialised support to her students. I acknowledge and thank our teachers and share with you that I believe that Kennedy children are receiving a high quality education in the hands of these amazing people.
Swimming Update
Last week our Senior Class students had their first swimming lesson but we cancelled swimming for the Junior Class because of the weather. If you happened to pay for swimming last week for your junior class child we will have either used that payment for this week’s pool entry or will organise a reimbursement if you paid for the 5 weeks. The Juniors did swim this week and I was pleased to see our Prep students bravely putting faces under the water, floating with floatation aids and really pushing their comfort zones to extend themselves. The laughing and joy coming from this group of students was contagious. I even heard one little voice say “I didn’t think I could do that but I can!!” Mark Sheehan from the pool is very experienced and an excellent swim teacher. We are lucky to have him working with our students. Thank you to Phoebe for taking home the swim shirts this week to wash them.
Drama Workshop
We wish Mackenzie and Jusn all the best with their
parcipaon in the Actor in Residence workshop next
week. Congratulaons on your selecon for this.
Student Council
Student Council have been making plans!! They have organised our Day for Daniel today and are now turning their planning towards a school disco which will be held on Thursday the 9th of November at school from 6-8pm. The theme for the disco is the letter B—come dressed as your favourite thing/person that starts with B! They will send home more information soon.
Prep Open Week
Will be held next week.
Readers Cup!
Congratulations to Taleesha, Charlie, Ella, Dion, Jack, Aidan, Mackenzie and Vitale for you participation and success at yesterday’s Reader’s Cup event held at Silk-wood State School. We are all proud of you for the effort you put in to the day.
What Will 2018 Look Like at Kennedy?
If we have 26 students or more next year we will have 2 full time teachers at Kennedy (a teaching principal and a teacher). If we have less than 26 students we will have one full time teaching principal and a part time teacher. We have 19 students on our books at the moment. If you are intending to enrol a child or transfer your child to another school, please let us know so that we can best plan for the future. The teaching principal replacing me will be appointed in due course and as soon as we know who it is, we will let you know.
Teaching and learning will continue as it has been next year with small focussed teaching groups and lots of adult support.
If you have any questions about next year and what it will look like for your child we encourage you to come and talk to us.
