Dear Parents/Caregivers
I hope that everyone enjoyed
Anniversary Weekend, making the
most of the extra day. It certainly
gave our tired swimmers a catch-
up day. A reminder that schools
are closed on the Tuesday after
Easter, as well as Easter Monday.
MUFTI DAY FOR CHILD CANCER
FUNDRAISER
Kerry McLachlan from Child Cancer spoke to the
school at assembly last Friday, thanking us for
supporting Child Cancer. She explained about the
significance of Beads of Courage telling us that
Myah has over 1,000 Beads. Kerry presented Myah
with a birthday cake to share with her class.
$526.20 was raised for Child Cancer Foundation.
PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS
We hope that parents found last week’s interviews as beneficial as teachers did, being able to
share information on how their children had settled at school this year. We are always pleased
with the high turn-out of parents at interview time. 88% of our parents attended these initial
interviews.

4th. An enormous effort by all our athletes amongst 30 – 40 other competitors in their events. It was a privilege to train with the team in the weeks leading up to the event and then see them compete at St Clair yesterday in the brilliant sunshine and all do so extremely well. They certainly proved themselves to be elite athletes in their field. Well done Ben, Erin, Sarah, Jayden, Bradley and Harvey, a great effort. Mrs Casey

COMPLAINTS POLICY
Rationale:
In Order to meet statutory requirements and good employer obligations, the Board is bound to put in place a
complaints procedure that is both professional and fair.
Purposes:
To ensure matters of concern or complaint are dealt with fairly, promptly and confidentially while considering the rights
of all parties involved.
Guidelines:
1. Staff and Board members, upon being approached by a complainant, will advise that the Board of Trustees have the following process to address parental/caregiver concerns in relation to the conduct of staff or students in the school. (a) In the first instance, the complaint should be addressed to the person concerned ie classroom complaints to
the teacher, other complaints to the principal. Verbal complaints are suitable for problems of a minor nature
which may be resolved informally and the complainant informed verbally of the resolution.
(b) Should a complaint between parents/caregivers and the classroom teacher not be resolved, the
complainant will then approach the Principal. The Principal will investigate the complaint and the complainant
will be advised in writing of the resolution.
(c) Any complainant who is still dissatisfied with the outcome will be advised to put their concerns in writing to
the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees. Written complaints must be signed by the complainant. The
Chairperson will promptly acknowledge in writing receipt of the complaint and will outline the time frame and
procedure for dealing with the complaint.
The full Board will meeting “in committee” to discuss the complaint in the absence of the complainant. The
complaint and subsequent Board decision action will be fully documented. The complainant will then be
notified of the Board’s decision in writing. The complainant then has 21 days to reply if dissatisfied with the
outcome.
2. If the complainant is a Board member, the steps outline in No.1 will still apply.
3. In complaints regarding the performance of an employee, the employee concerned must be notified immediately by the Board Chairperson or appointee in the chair’s absence and advised that he/she is entitled to seek representation. Any cost of representation will be borne by the employee concerned.
Where such complaints are received, the procedures outlined in each of the relevant individual or collective
contracts will be strictly adhered to.
Conclusion:
By adhering to the above guidelines, staff and Board members will maintain a consistent and professional approach
when dealing with complaints.

EXPERIENCE ANOTHER CULTURE IN 2013 AND IMPROVE YOUR LANGUAGE STUDIES AT HOME
In June-July students from over 20 countries around the world will be arriving in New Zealand to study
at local high schools for 2- months.
Opportunities exist for families to act as a host family, in a volunteer capacity. Hosting can be on a temporary, short or long term basis. Host families help provide international students with the chance to study and experience life in New Zealand. This is a great way to learn about another country and culture, establish a lifelong link to a family in another country and contribute to international goodwill.
If your family can offer a friendly, supportive and caring home environment, contact us today.
