The week 8 newsle>er is very full and reflects the hive of ac.vity and some of the challenges that we are currently managing in school.
Please make a note of these reminders:
LaFilleMalGardeYr 2-7 Classes are off to the Ballet on Wednesday (tomorrow)- due to generous funding from the Minderoo Founda!on, all of our children
from Year 2 to Year 7 are a$ending the excursion to the Ballet. This is a free excursion, all children are expected to a$end the excursion
unless they are sick and have a doctors cer!ficate. This is an opportunity to expose children to a form of the Arts which will expand their
understanding and educa!on. We have a handful of permission notes that are yet to be returned and parents are asked to return the notes
early tomorrow morning. I will be a$ending the Excursion while Mr Webb and Mrs Bonney remain at school to supervise Kindy to Year 1.
SportsCarnival The excitement is building for the highlight on our spor!ng calendar on Friday 12th September. Should rain be forecast, the decision will be
made the previous day and parents will be no!fied. In this case Monday 15th September will be the back up date for the Carnival. Please
note that Sports Day is a compulsory part of the curriculum and it is expected that all students a$end school on the day and par!cipate.
Sportsmanship and sportsman like behaviour is required from athletes and spectators. I look forward to seeing everyone in fac!on colours
on Friday.
The P and C have several ac!vi!es organised prior to, and on the day of Sports Carnival. Wristbands in fac!on colours are on sale in the
Canteen for $2.
Bring along your loose change and buy a raffle !cket on the day for your chance to win some prizes plus buy yourself and the family a
sausage sizzle for the very reasonable price of $2.50. A small assortment of drinks are available ranging from $1-$3.
LearningJourneyWeek 9 Tuesday 16th September the school will be open from 3pm-6pm for our Learning Journey.
Children will be dismissed at the regular !me of 2:30 while teachers !dy the classroom and complete final prepara!ons. Classroom doors
will open again from 3pm and parents are invited in to view the learning progression that has taken place throughout the term. All areas of
school will be open including the Pre Kindy classroom.
To quell the a@ernoon hunger, the P and C will again have a sausage sizzle on sale so that you can have a quick bite to eat and make the
most of the !me that school is open.
The Student Leaders will be opening their market stalls in the old covered assembly area and they will have a range of small items available
for sale. This is a fundraising event for the school and the leaders will be excited by all of the sales that they make.
We look forward to seeing you next Tuesday.
MessageforS2ParentsI am pleased to confirm that Mr McDowell has agreed to teach FULLTIME in S2 for the remainder of the year. Mr McDowell is an
experienced teacher who specializes in teaching upper primary children. Having had one of my children taught by Mr McDowell, I can
guarantee his teaching skills and behaviour management strategies.
On the Learning Journey a@ernoon, Mr McDowell will be holding a parent mee!ng in the classroom at 4pm where he will outline relevant
informa!on about what he is teaching and the way he manages behaviour, Please come along and meet Mr McDowell on Tuesday.
∗ Improving the standard of behaviour con!nues to be a priority in the school. Classroom teachers have a clear process to follow which is
as follows:
∗ Verbal warning
∗ Visual warning e.g. name on board
∗ Time out
∗ TAP (Temporary Alterna!ve Placement) or Buddy Class (ECEC)
∗ 2 TAPS in one day or a Major in the playground = in school suspension for half a day or the following day
∗ Suspension at the discre!on of the Principal
∗ Parents can be assured that each and every incident that children report to teachers will be followed up to ensure that consequences
are given. If you are not sa!sfied with the way any incident has been handled, the most effec!ve strategy is to make an appointment to
speak with one of the Depu!es or myself in the office.
J9’sGarden
J9 has taken to the garden this term to learn about plan!ng
different types of herbs and vegetables. This week we have
successfully harvested potatoes as well as plan!ng our own
a few weeks before in 2L drink containers.
Since the start of term we have found nine different types
of mint, including chocolate mint, all of which are growing
outside our class. Other herbs we have been looking a@er
include coriander, rosemary, jasmine, lemon and lime
balm, lavender as well as a curry plant. Our children have
been learning to look a@er the plants by watering them but
not overwatering, making sure the plants get enough sun
and gently rubbing their leaves if they want to smell the
plants.
We have further discovered how worms are important to
our environment, what they can and cannot eat and how
they help produce the soil our world needs to survive. All
children have created their own worm farms with Mrs
Bhaskaran last week but in addi!on J9 have their own
worm farm. Students have been adding to the worm
compost with scraps and other plant materials. As we
con!nue we will begin to explore important plan!ng terms
such as 'germina!on' and 'photosynthesis' to help broaden
children's knowledge about what is needed to support
plant life. The children have responded posi!vely to the
hands-on approach to learning and have not complained
about geIng their hands dirty. Mr Blanchard – J9
