Liebe Freundinnen und Freunde des

Internationalen,

liebe Leiterinnen und Leiter,

ein Jahr geht, ein Neues kommt. Wir möchten Euch

hiermit nur das Beste für das kommende Jahr wün-

schen: Viel Neugier am Fremden, einen Satz Wissen

und Erlebnisse, um Vorurteile zu überwinden. Auch

Erfahrungen mit Pfadfinderinnen und Pfadfindern

aus der ganzen Welt, um zu erleben was es bedeutet,

Teil einer weltweiten Familie zu sein. Wir wollen euch

in diesem Jahr gerne von dieser großartigen Verbin-

dung spüren lassen und teilen deswegen mit euch die

Grüße, die wir zum Jahresende von unseren Schwes-

tern und Brüdern per Mail bekommen haben. Auch

per Post haben wir Weihnachtsgrüße erhalten, die wir

bald an anderer Stelle teilen. Vielen Dank für das

letzte Jahr und lasst uns gemeinsam mit voller Ener-

gie in das nächste starten!

Neujahrsgrüße des Weltpfadfinderverbands Der nachfolgende Brief wurden von Craig Turpie und Ahmad Alhendawi verfasst. Die beiden bekleiden ehrenamtlich Vorstandsfunktionen der Weltpfadfinderorganisation.

Dear friends,

As 2018 draws to a close, we reflect on the progress made and celebrate our achie-

vements. The year has been full of memorable events, campaigns, and projects we

can all recall with pride.

We have seen several Regional Scout events taking place for both our youth and

adult members. From Jamborees in the Arab and Eurasia Scout Regions, a Moot in

the Interamerican Scout Region, a Roverway in the European Scout Region, to three

successful Regional Scout conferences in the Africa, Asia-Pacific, and Interamerican

Scout Regions, we have seen our Movement thriving and our members creating un-

forgettable memories with their friends across borders.

We celebrated 100 years of Rovering through events hosted worldwide, and in parti-

cular an exciting Rover week at our permanent mini-Jamboree at the Kandersteg

International Scout Centre. The Rover section is thriving: Scouting, more than ever,

is shaping young adults through the programmes we offer. We look forward to further

celebrations next year with the Wood Badge Centenary.

All of this has led to a sharpened focus not only on growth through the number of

young people impacted by Scouting, but also through ensuring that we deliver high-

quality programmes. As part of these efforts, we have established the WOSM Growth

Agenda, which aims to approach growth holistically, rather than as isolated actions.

The targeted support to further the WOSM Growth Agenda has helped some 30 NSOs

to start developing and accelerating their growth strategies, and has brought them

closer to achieving their growth commitments.

It has been a year of meaningful partnerships. We successfully launched the He-

ForShe action kit in collaboration with UN Women, strengthened partnerships with

WWF and UN Environment, and continued our work with UNICEF through Generation

Unlimited. We also made history by launching the world’s largest coordinated youth

contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Scouts for SDGs.

This mobilisation will result in more than three billion additional service hours regis-

tered by Scouts worldwide (on top of the existing one billion!). All of the resources

we have produced for this purpose (available through our online SDGs hub) will em-

power young people to take local actions that will support the achievement of the

SDGs. We now have our first Chief Ambassador of World Scouting, Bear Grylls, whose

appointment will help increase the Movement’s storytelling and outreach.

We know all of these efforts are only possible thanks to the extensive support of all

of our volunteers. As we mentioned in a recent message on International Volunteer

Day, without their support, we would not be able to provide millions of young people

with the opportunity to discover their full potential and to become self-fulfilled indi-

viduals, playing a constructive role in society. For the efforts of all our volunteers, we

are truly grateful.

For all of these reasons, 2018 has truly been a year of growth for the Movement in

more ways than one. We are humbled by the success achieved and have learned

from our challenges as well.

Scouting is opening up a world of opportunities for more young people and adults

every single day. This gives us the strength and resolve to continue pursuing our

plans to achieve all that is set out in our Strategy for Scouting – Vision 2023.

Scouting is the world’s leading educational youth movement, and without a doubt,

the world’s greatest leadership development programme. As 2018 comes to a close,

let us look forward with confidence to 2019, sound in the knowledge that Scouting

does make a difference – a real and lasting difference - to millions of young people,

their families, and the communities in which they live everywhere around the world.

Let’s keep growing together. Let’s keep up the good work.
