ARNOLD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
SEPTEMBER 2017
Welcome Back Arnold Families!
We are off to a terrific start! Students once again amaze me with their creativity, eagerness to learn, and flexibility with change. We are making our new space our own and working out all the kinks from
our move. Thank you to everyone for their patience and willingness to keep everyone safe.
This year we will continue our wellness school initiative by encouraging students to drink water and eat healthy. We have many food allergies at Arnold so you are more than welcome to bring a special
lunch just for your child and join us in the cafeteria.
We hope you can join us for our first PTA meeting Tuesday, September 19th at 6:00pm. We have a strong, supportive parent group who provides positive community events for all students at Arnold Ele-
mentary.
For communication, we share important information through our school website, monthly newsletter, phone/email messages, and weekly principal messages on Sunday evenings. Please make sure you
update your emergency contact information if anything has changed for this school year.
Together if we believe, we can achieve and excel! I eagerly look forward to another great year at
Arnold Elementary!
Sincerely,
Shauna Kauffman

HEALTH ROOM NEWS
My name is Mandy Konig and I am the nurse for Arnold Elementary. I also work as a Nurse
Supervisor for the Broadneck and Severna Park clusters where I mentor and assist the current
nurses and School Health Staff. I have been a Pediatric Nurse for 29 years. I spent the first half
of my career at St. Agnes Hospital working in various Pediatric departments from General
Pediatrics to Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and finally, the Pediatric Emergency Room. Once my
children began school, I took a position at St. Jane Frances School in Pasadena, MD as the
School Nurse. I worked there for 13 years until I took a job with Anne Arundel County in 2013.
Most recently, I was the School Nurse at both Nantucket ES and Crofton Meadows ES. I enjoy
working with children and I have a wealth of experience in Pediatrics. Please feel free to reach
out to me if there is anything I can help you with. I look forward to working with the children,
families, and staff of Arnold Elementary.

Communicating with your School Nurse
Parents/Guardians - Keep Your School Nurse Up to Date:
1. Be sure to inform your school nurse about your child’s health conditions or
other special health needs in order to plan for safe management at school. Chronic health conditions including but not limited to: asthma, seizures, diabetes or life threatening allergies.
2. Remember to provide your school nurse with current emergency contact
information.
3. Tell your school nurse if your child’s health condition interferes with school attendance.
4. Make sure to tell your school nurse about medications and medical
treatments your child requires during the school day.
5. Tell your school nurse about any changes in your child’s health or mobility status, or about any infectious disease.
6. Speak to the school nurse if you need to obtain information about health
insurance for your child.
Any questions or health related concerns? Please contact your School Nurse, Mandy Konig, RN at 410-544-1242 or [email protected].
