Agenda 2030

Quality Education - Life on Land

Territorial and Production Systems Sustainability Department

ENEA provides technical support and consulting to develop and implement projects for the territorial management according to the principles of sustainable development. In the environmental context, it performs ecological quality analyses of aquatic ecosystems (chiefly running waters and coastal lagoons) and promotes biodiversity conservation and the optimization of Protected Area Management Plans. The Agency also delivers environmental education and training on sustainability and valorization of the territory.

Benefits and Advantages:

• conservation of natural heritage

• sustainable management of territory

• public awareness-raising on the importance of territorial valorization and biodiversity conservation

• improvement of skills

ENEA Service:

ENEA has long consolidated expertise and experience in projects for the management of protected areas. Among these, e.g., the project on “Applicazione pilota dei sistemi di gestione ambientale nelle aree protette” (i.e., pilot application of environmental management systems in protected areas) (http://qualitypark.casaccia.enea.it) under the programme agreement between ENEA and the Italian Ministry of the Environment, which led to the UNI guidelines for the application of the technical standard ISO 14001 in protected areas.

Keywords:

biodiversity, natural heritage, aquatic ecosystems, sustainable development, running waters, protected areas, training, environmental regulations, sustainability instruments, sustainable tourism, consulting

• improvement of Protected Area Management Plans for aquatic biodiversity conservation

• assessment of ecological quality of aquatic ecosystems in relation to anthropic pressures

• conservation of biodiversity in wetlands, under projects on sustainable tourism and/or integrated management of coastal areas

• consulting and technical support

• training and raising awareness on sustainable management of the territory
