Principal’s Message
We hope that you have taken advantage of this mild winter and that
you were able to enjoy some quality time together on Family Day.
February was a month of achievement and celebration at Terry Fox
with the intermediate science classes showcasing their Invention
Convention, our skiers and snowboarders showing big improve-
ments on the hills and our basketball teams both doing well in their
divisions. We were also very proud to perform an amazing celebra-
tion assembly of black history that included spoken word poetry, the
history of Hip Hop dance, a showcase of famous inventions by black
people, Afro-Caribbean dance and persuasive writing from our jun-
iors about the new $10 bill featuring Viola Desmond.
As we move into term two, we are excited to be highlighted as a Mi-
crosoft Showcase School for our innovation using technology at the
points of instruction and learning. Microsoft worldwide will be send-
ing a team of delegates to Terry Fox in March to highlight the amaz-
ing things our staff and students are doing with technology in school!
Although March is a short month, we are busy planning our upcom-
ing STEM and Kindergarten Fitness nights (more details to come
soon) and EQAO preparations continue as we meet with intensive
intervention groups for grade 3 and 6 students 3 times per week
ahead of the assessments in May.
As we finished up this short week, we hope that you enjoy a safe
and relaxing March Break and look forward to seeing everyone back
on the 20th!
Determination Perseverance Commitment Courage March 2017
We have completed the first stage of our school Makerspace in the library, which is the Lego Wall! We will continue to build the Makerspace for students, with many types of building and creat-ing materials.
If you have any Lego, Tink-ertoys, Kinex, etc. that you no longer need, we can put them to good use!
Anything STEM related would be great! Science/Technology/Engineering/Math
For the next few weeks, Primary students are attending Mak-erspace introduction sessions with me, and soon after that it will be open for all students.

Last week, our Kindergarten staff and 24 Grade 7 and 8 students were trained on a new physical
fitness program that we are implementing during recesses and lunch hours with the Kindergarten
students. The Intermediate students -including Jessica and Lilly (pictured) will act as leaders and
mentors for the Kindergarten students as they learn new games and activities that promote physical
fitness and healthy choices. This training will
all come together on Thursday, May 25th from
5:30-6:30 p.m., as we invite our Kindergarten
students and families to our first Kindergarten
Fitness Night! More information on this excit-
ing event will be provided closer to the date,
but please mark your calendars now!
