Tess- the oldest child of John and Joan Durbeyfield .

• Parson Tringham informs John that he has noble blood.

• In the village at May Dance Tess meets Angel Clare, the youngest son of Reverend James Clare. He liked her very much.

• Tess’s father was to drunk to drive to market that’s why Tess undertakes the journey herself. Unfortunately she falls asleep and the horse is fatally wounded

• She decides to visit Mrs.d'Urberville, a wealthy

widow who lives in the nearby town of Trantridge

and ask for her part.

• There she meets Mrs.d'Urberville’s son, Alec.

• And her nightmare begins.

• She works at Mrs.d'Urberville and one

day Alec rapes her

• She runs home to her father’s cottage

• The next summer she gives birth to a sickly boy.

• She baptizes him herself giving him the name “Sorrow”.

• The boy dies after few weeks.

• Tess seeks employment outside the village. She gets a job as a milkmaid at Talbothays Dairy, working for Mr. and Mrs. Crick.

• There she re-encounters Angel Clare and they fall in love.

He proposes to her and she accepts.

On their wedding night Tess tells Angel about what Alec

did to her.

Angel sends Tess home and he takes ship for Brazil.

• Tess meets Alec, again. He has been converted to Methodism.

• Alec asks Tess to marry him. She refuses.

Tess’s father dies. Her family is banished from their

home.

• Angel returns. He is looking for Tess. He finds her in Sandbourne. He discovers that she became Alec’s mistress. Angel asks for forgiveness but Tess sends him away.

Tess kills Alec.

She hurries after Angel to tell him about that.

They run away.

• The body is discovered by the cleaning woman. She

announced the police.

• At the Stonehenge Tess lies down to rest on an ancient altar.

• She asks Angel to marry her youngest sister, Liza-Lu.

• Next morning Tess is taken by the police to Winchester prison.
