Yet again a huge thank you to our staff: the teachers who always come with the attitude of what else can they do to make the learning relevant, accessible and engaging, meeting the range of learner needs in the classroom; to our support and admin staff - every day in some way they help support our students and as a result, this is a happy safe place to come and learn. To our staff that are leaving, we wish them well: Mr Geoff Parlett has accepted a transfer; as has Mr Wayne Symons our school counsellor; Mrs Libby Noble, our student welfare worker, is looking to alternate activities; Mrs Barbara Mitton is taking extended long service leave; and our trainee, Taylor Hewen, completes her traineeship well skilled for endless employment and learning opportunities. All have worked to improve the learning opportunities of our students. Thank you. This year, as in the past, we have had our strong and supportive community by our side: our tireless and enthusiastic P&C, our parents and grandparents who assist in so many ways, and all the community groups that contribute to our students rich experience of learning. Thanks for your participation and contribution. We all return January for more exciting learning. Volume 4, Issue 10

11 December, 2015

The last week of school has been just as busy as any other week – winding down – not yet.

Our junior Lachlan cricket team played their second match against Condobolin. They were excited and prepared. After dismissing Condo for just over 100, with Harrison Starr taking 5 wickets, they went into bat. Their inexperience resulted in the loss of all the wickets for under 60 runs. Ray Smith accompanied the team to Condobolin, and said there was talent that just needed more refining. This team will have opportunities next year to continue in this competition.

Year 10 finished their True North projects focusing on making a difference, and the groups really did. A group of students camped out at school on Thursday night to raise awareness of homelessness and raised money to buy swags. By the end of Friday they had raised over $400. Another group, focusing on poverty, collected, sorted and washed clothing which they donated to the local Salvation Army. Two groups visited Grenfell Public School presenting workshops on water sustainability and mental health. The students were really engaged, the primary teacher impressed by how well organised the secondary students were in their ability to deliver to the younger students. The great posters on recycling and litter are about the school – everyone comments on the drawings. Handball is flourishing with the newly marked out courts and some standardised rules for all to play by and the final group has got everyone talking about their proposal – some new water bubblers for the school, particularly down near the ovals. The SRC think this could be a good project to action next year. Year 10 learnt that making a difference is not only about having a good idea, but following through with actions. They all felt a real sense of achievement.

The students who gained a gold merit enjoyed their reward day in Orange, a mix of trampolining, ten pin bowling and the movies. This group of students had received over 25 merits for their efforts in and out of the classroom; and the feedback from Flipout “Many thanks for bringing the students from Henry Lawson High School to visit us today. It was a great celebration with our special guest Jan Lehane.

We all return January for more exciting learning. Wednesday 27 January – staff; Thursday 28 January – Years 7, 11 and 12; Friday 29 January – Years 8, 9 and 10.

Have a happy and relaxing Christmas and holiday.

Canteen Volunteers Needed

Our canteen needs volunteers for just one day a month, that’s two or three days a term.

A day in the canteen helps you understand what’s going on with different events at school and what exciting things are happening around our school.

You get to put a face to the people teaching and changing the lives of your teenagers.

You get to see your children having fun with their friends, and believe it or not, the kids enjoy seeing you in the canteen, even though sometimes they say different.

Volunteers come in about 10.30am and help prepare food, assist with serving the students, refill chips and fridges and help wash and wipe up. Lunch and tea or coffee is provided. The day ends at 2.30pm.

Everyone is welcome, mums, dads, aunts, uncles, grandparents and friends.

If you can help, please fill in the slip below or ring Sonja at the school on 63431390 or at home on 0487612258, as soon as possible so the roster can be made up for next year.
