Rosenberger Hochfrequenztechnik GmbH & Co. was founded in 1958, concentrating on RF connector for over 50 years. Both RF connector and microwave cable assemblies of Rosenberger have appreciative reputation in the industry. The products have been widely used in applications and developments of communi-cate, test instruments, military and aviation. Sorts of connectors

In spite of common connectors, Rosenberger supplies all kinds of precision connector. Rosenberger can supply different kinds of precision connector in the range of DC-110GHz; furthermore, in this range Rosenberger can also provide calibration kits for differ-ent kinds of connector.

Compared to Rosenberger general connector, Rosenberger preci-sion connector can provide much better electrical performance (some can achieve calibration level).

Design and materials of all connectors and connector parts con-form to MIL-C-39012.Rosenberger connectors have been opti-mized can achieve the lowest SWR in the stated frequency range. In addition, patented connector accessories have been designed to provide high reliability and withstand heavy stress. The outer contact, dielectric, and center contact guarantee that the cable as-

sembly keeps its excellent properties even after series use.

High-Performance cableOur cable is not only designed to minimize both reflection and transmission losses but also maximize phase and amplitude stability by carefully control-ling the special design, all materials and manufacture processes. The con-struction of typical Rosenberger high-performance microwave cable is as follows:

Solid and durable cable armor

Accounting for various working circumstances and customers’ requirements, Rosenberger high-performance microwave cable assem-blies are matched by various armors. To extends the assembly life and adds additional physical protection. Four standard armors are detailed below. Additional armor types are also available. Please contact Rosenberger Asia Pacific with any special requirements.

Center contactSolid or stranded silver-plated copper wire. In comparison to equal size stranded cen-ter conductors, the solid center conductor has less RF resistance, lower attenuation, and when bending has better amplitude stability. But the stranded center conductor is more flexible and when bending better phase stability.

Inner shieldSilver-plated copper tape, helically wrapped with 40% minimum overlap between layers. This shield allows for outstanding flexibility and 100% coverage dielectric. By strictly monitoring the precision wrapping process and carefully matching the elasticity of the dielectric to the properties of the silver-plated copper tape, uniform impedance and ideal contact between individual layers of the shield are maintained.

JacketFluorinated Ethylene Propylene (FEP), is excellent because of its high temperature resistance and chemical inertness.

DielectricLow density PTFE has a dielectric constant range from 1.4 to 1.7 depending on the cable type. Most transmission loss is caused either directly or indirectly by the dielec-tric. In addition, the dielectric determines the velocity of transmission, temperature range, rated power, phase and amplitude stability and flexibility. Those parameters of low density PTFE is very ideal due to its low density and low thermal coefficient of expansion. And the better flexibility and phase stability.

Outer shieldSilver-plated copper wire, tightly braided over the inner shield. This braid is primarily strength members that also add additional RF shielding. And is the primarily factor that infects weight.

Testing description for Rosenberger cable assem-blies under harsh circumstances

Rosenberger high-performance microwave cable assemblies can work in kinds of harsh situations, such as arctic, desert, battlefield and avia-tion etc. The followings are parts of tests standard that RTK series cable assemblies attained:

• High-temperaturer test per MIL-STD-202, Method 107, 5 cycles, 55 to 165 degrees C, or MIL-STD-810, Method 503, Procedure I.

• Aging Stability per MIL-C-17, Paragraph 4.8.16, 165 degrees C for 168 hours.

• Vibration per MIL-STD-202, Method 204, Test condition B.• High Pressure, increase pressure at a rate of not more than 10 bar/

minute to 100 bar for 12 hours.• Low Pressure per MIL-STD-1344A, Method 1004.• Humidity per MIL-STD-810, Method 507, Procedure I.• Salt Fog per MIL-STD-810, Method 509, Procedure I.• Sand and Dust per MIL-STD-810, Method 510, Procedure I.• Stress Crack Resistance per MIL-C-17, Paragraph 4.8.17.• Cold Bend per MIL-C-17, Paragraph 4.8.19.• Chemical Resistance(keep stable towards following chemical )

JP-4 and JP-5 fuelsHydraulic fluidLubrication oil

• Coolants of fluorocarbon, silicon, silicate ester, and glycol families• Corrosive Atmosphere per MIL-E-5400, Paragraph 3.1.6.

In regard of better services to military and other research institutes, Rosenberger can accomplish all tests of National Military Standard GJB150 requests, such as mechanical, sur-face, humidity, temperature, thermal shock, salt fog and real-time X-ray tests.

RTK-Flex series cable

RTK-Flex series cable from Rosenberger is an excellent economy choice for Microwave signal transmission. Resort our high frequency microwave cable technology, Rosenberger has designed RTK-Flex series to meet the maximum frequency 18GHz.

Not only the frequency upgrades, but also much better shielding, stability, durability and lower cost achieved compared to similar prod-ucts. RTK-Flex is constructed by an improved solid PTFE dielectric wrapped underneath a precision wrap layer of metal Cu tape for nearly ideal microwave shielding. A round wire braid and FEP outer jacket add better retention force and protection. So RTK-Flex holds better microwave performance and excellent mechanical characteristics. RTK-Flex is universal and easy to manufacture since it can be

stripped by standard tools and match standard semi-rigid cable connectors.

Rosenberger semi-rigid/semi-flex cable assemblies transmit high-speed and high- frequency microwave signal mainly, they are the most effective and economy solution in microwave cabinet system. The main features are as follows:

• Working performance: easy to bend, bend to plate, pull, manu-facture, solder, or connect without influence the electrical per-formance, the line-end can be reliably and repeatedly batches manufactured.

Use and Maintenance Precautions of Cable

Test cable assemblies are high precision components. Right handle, routine inspection, and maintenance are very important to maintain reliable electrical and machine performance.

Notice for OperatingDust-free circumstances and decontaminated connector interface are required.

Use lint-free dipping little pure(99.5%) isopropanol to clean connector interface, but avoid wetting the dielectric of connectors. After that, use dry non-oil air or nitrogen to below and clean it. Forbid to clean with prick or similar tools, or below with mouth or ordinary compress air.

When operating, try best to avoid bending, then can reduce the change of phase. When need to bend, the bending radius should big-ger than min bending radius, and the cable can not wrap. The mini-mum bend radius is listed in production contents.

Use the possible minimum pressure and apply necessary protection if nip is necessary. Even the smallest dent in the cable can affect the cable’s performance.

Forbid pull the cable assemblies to move test equipment.

Always inspect if connector interface is cleanly or depth is ok before every time using. Forbid to use impurely or substandard depth con-nector.Screw the coupling nut of Plug side when connecting; do not screw the Jack side. Use correct torque wrench to tighten the hex coupling nut under max torque.

As usually, the average mating cycles of normal connectors are 500-1000. The minimum flexures times of cables (without Armor) are 5000 (bigger than Minimum Bend Radius). In laboratory, the natural life could be 1-3 years. In batch production and testing, it could be differ-ent depending on operating frequency, environment and cable fea-tures. Armor could consumedly lengthen the life.

After several times using, the performance bases application condi-tion and request to determine. As usually, Return Loss, Insertion Loss, Amplitude stability and Phase stability as the scale, maintenance or replacement are necessary if those performances change a lot after several using.
