learn a variety of simple printing techniques that you can do at home. the course will provide a general overview of printmaking with a focus on creating prints without any expensive machinery. you will specifically look at lino print, monoprint and collograph. once you have the basics, choose one or all of these to produce a series of prints or create your very own printed cards and wrapping paper.
materials are provided for students to practice on. for final pieces of work, good quality artist’s papers and print plate materials can be bought from the tutor.

traditional re-upholstery techniquesdetails
this is an introduction to into traditional and contemporary re-upholstery techniques. using the upholstery tools provided you will strip down your chair or stool, insert new padding or waddings, re webb and even re spring your article. we will also look at top covers and where you can source up to date and exciting fabrics.
all equipment is provided.materials necessary for completing your project will need to be purchased from the tutor.

working directly from a life model, the course will introduce you to a variety of drawing appoaches. You will focus on observational skills, proportions of the body and compos-tion. with regards technique you will use a range of materials from acrylics and watercol-our to charcoal and oil pastel. thoroughout the course inspiration will be sought from the work and practise of other artists.for those more experienced individual tasks will be set according to needs.

the course will help improve or refresh both your drawing and painting techniques. the focus to the 6 weeks differs for each course, exploring artists, movements and current exhibitions.
in general terms the emphasis for drawing will be learning to ‘look’ with a series of drawing excercises in measurement, proportions, composistions and shade and tone.

this course will explore traditional drawing techniques and using these within the field of illustration. you will learn about different ways of mark making using a variety of different mediums and how to generate ideas to create unique and interesting work. the class will be led by helen entwisle a leeds based illustrator and screen printer who produces greetings cards, limited edition prints and a range of other hand made products. the class will also look at the art of hand drawn lettering which is something that helen specialises in.

jewellery makingdetails
this is a practical jewellery making course is for both new and experienced students. new students will be introduced to the core metalwork techniques through a ring-making project and will continue to consoli-date these techniques in various projects throughout the course. more experienced students will have the opportunity to develop their existing skills in more technical projects such as stone setting. throughout the course students will have one to one tutor support and make individually designed pieces of silver jewel-lery.

develop your skills of working in acrylics, watercolour and oils. you will learn the basics of colour theory, shade and tone and explore the of complexity working in each of the diciplines. as part of the course you will look at 20th centuary and contemporary paintings to inspire and develop your work
For those who have a basic knowledge of all mediums, the emphiasis will be on personal development in one or all of these mediums with the help and guidance from the tutor.

this course is suitable for beginners and those who want to refresh their knowledge and skills. the course will take you through the basics of how to use your camera on it’s manual settings, looking at exposure and shutter speed and other vital settings to help you gain more control of your photography.
the tutor will take you through different genres of photography and set you projects to work on within the class and at home. you can interpret the projects as you wish, making everyones images personal and unique. initial projects focus on composition, framing and portraits.

beginners will start by making a pair of simple cushions. this initial project will equip you in the basics of patterns cutting and familiarise you with the operation of using a sewing machine. from here you can choose from a variety of projects like a simple skirt or tote bag. for the more experienced, there are a number of projects depending on skills, you can choose from a lined dress to a more complicated blouse. the emphasis is on making garments that fit by learning how to alter and grade patterns. for those wanting to concentrate on interiors or accessories you can make blinds, curtains, clutch bags and more.
