They currently live in Marikina, near Ross and Mandie’s house.

Ross’ father FelixRoss’ father Felixworked as a cardiologist, surgeon, as a specialist in neuro-spinal cord injuries and as a family practitioner (RP, Korea, USA, Puerto Rico). He also taught at the MCU (Manila Central University) College of Medicine. He is a retired Philippine Army Colonel, survivor of Bataan Death March and he served inthe MASH unit (US-Korea War).

His mother Lydia

is equally accomplished andhard working. She has twouniversity degrees- BS Nursing (UP-PGH) andBS Pharmacy (CentroEscolar University). Together with Felix, she established the Sibal Realty andDevelopment Corporation in addition to other smallbusinesses.

Ross is the eldest in a family of seven children. His brothers are: Jorge (Dean, UP SOLAIR), Oscar (UP, CPA Virginia USA) and Nicolas (U of Maryland Architect, Piedmont USA). His sisters are: Lilia (UP HE, ECE Virginia, USA), Evelyn (UP-PGH BSN, PWU BSRN, UC Davis MA School Nursing Sacramento USA), and Alice (UP BS Psych, Univ. of Guelph MA Applied Child Psychology, Miriam College PhD cand.)

Ross’ grandfather Dr. Deogracias Villadolid hailed from Nasugbu, Batangas. He was a scientist and professor at UP Los Banos. He served as Director of Fisheries.

Ross’ maternal grandfather was a hard-working, thrifty and self-supporting student. He worked as a janitor in UP Los Banos while studying. He got a scholarship at Stanford University- California, USA. He obtained a PhD. in Marine Biology (1926). This is the first ever for a Filipino.

Deogracias and his wife, Restituta had 5 children: Ross’ mother, and uncles: Leland, Oscar, Doy and Herminio.

Ross’ grandmother Restituta grew up in Bay and Calauan, Laguna. She finished at the Colegio de Santa Isabel in Manila. Lola Resti became “Reyna Elena” and was also Miss Calauan in the May 1917 Fiesta de Mayo.

Earliest formal picture of Ross Ross’ paternal grandparents are

Nicolas Sibal from Bamban, Tarlac and Vicenta Palarca of Capas, Tarlac.

They are farmer – landowners in Tarlac.

Ross grew up as a small boy in Paniqui, Tarlac where his grandmother (Apo Vicenta) operated a grocery/variety store and bakery which was popular for its “pan de sal”.

His uncles and aunts are- Jose, Emerciana, Maria, Belen,Generoso, Rossario and Africa.

The well-known Dr. Ernesto Sibal of Phoenix Publishing House is the cousin of his father.

Until Ross was 5 years old he often stayed with his extended family comprising of grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins in Paniqui.

At around age 5, his mother Lydia insisted that Ross grow up solely in Manila with his parents and siblings, instead of travelling to & from Paniqui.

As a child, Ross liked going to school and showed strong leadership qualities. He also liked to play “dress-up” as a soldier. He liked playing assorted games with his neighbors.

Ross studied Grade One at the Paniqui public school when he was only 5 years old, in order to accompany his older cousins. He ended up at the top of his class, so he was promoted to Grade Two right away. He was the youngest and the smallest boy in his class.

From Paniqui, Ross moved to Sta. Ana Elementary School where he finished Grade Six.

Ross entered UP Diliman, intent on pursuing a degree in Engineering. In his third year, he decided to join the Philippine Military Academy and graduated with the class of 1967.

In their early teen years, Ross, Lily, Lyn and Jorge helped their mother operate the small cafeteria inside the AFP Supply Center (known as Base Shop) at Santolan Road (now Bonnie Serrano Avenue). Ross, Lily, Lyn and Jorge peddled snack items pushing a kareton .

Avenue apartment complex in 1962.

Just like all their other houses and apartments, Ross’ parents purchased the construction materials and supervised the overall construction with some help from Ross and his siblings.
