    1 Introduction

The Mobil Flostick viscosity tester allows the direct comparison of new and used oils.

This method is a quick and convenient way of checking the oil in an engine. The

percentage of dilution is not indicated. Accordingly, any test samples that do not fall inthe range marked "GOOD", should then be checked on a cup viscometer, where

    available.

Where excessive dilution is indicated, the engine oil should be changed. Where

excessive sludging is indicated, the oil and filters should be changed.

When using the Flostick, it is essential that the new oil and the oil to be tested be

stabilised at equal temperatures and reservoir levels before testing. This is best done by

filling reservoirs with the oil and allowing the Flostick to stand for at least five minutes

    prior to testing.

The Flostick should be thoroughly cleaned after use and stored safely to prevent damage

    to the oil tracks.

The oil is to be tested using this method during Major and Interim Inspections.

Current instructions requiring oil samples to be sent for analysis should still be complied

    with.

    2 Using the Flowstick

Refer to Appendix A for explanation of what the Flowstick does and how to use it.
