Textbook Accountability

The average cost of a K-12 adoption for SDCC is about 2.5 million dollars

Students are not being charged for lost and damaged books, particularly at the secondary level

It is important that everyone improve the accountability

Every teacher is accountable for instructional materials Florida Statutes require teachers to issue books Classroom teachers must conduct and document

semi-annual instructional materials book checks

Historically: Textbooks are assigned at the beginning of each

year or each semester There is a book check after each 9 weeks Textbooks are collected at the end of the year and

counted for inventory

the school year or semester Do a book check around Spring

Break time or as directed by school administrators

Destiny “Quick Sheets” and tutorial information can be located at the website listed above. (Note there is no www in the URL) At the beginning of the year, books should be

checked out to the classroom teacher by the grade or department chair using the To Teacher tab.

The classroom teacher then Reassigns books to students or uses the By Class tab to check out books to students

Do NOT use the To Patron tab to check out textbooks

Inventory & Communication

New Apple and Android app for Destiny and app for Destiny Quest. Search “Follett Destiny” for Apple and Android app

which allows teachers to Check-In/Check-Out textbooks, monitor copy status, and to enter or scan* copy, item, and patron barcodes. (*Scan functionality only available with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S and iPad-3rd generation)

Search “Destiny Quest” for app specific to your school library and can be set up using the same https://destiny.clay.k12.fl.us for connection.

Teachers may not have wireless access available at school or in the classroom and need to be advised that unless using wireless, they may incur data charges.

Textbook Adoptions

FLDOE determines the adoption cycleSDCC reviews all materials being

submitted for state adoption during a pre-adoption process

Items are narrowed to top materials for review by all teachers assigned to the subject

may NOT contact a publisher’s representative about materials unless directed by Instructional Resources

Textbook Adoptions

Florida statute prohibits any district school board official from soliciting or accepting any emolument, money, or other valuable thing, or any inducement, to directly or indirectly introduce, recommend, vote for, or otherwise influence the adoption or purchase of any instructional material.

This applies to any SDCC employee

Digital Implementation

State statute requires that by the 2015-2016 fiscal year, each district school board shall use at least 50 percent of the annual instructional materials allocation for the purchase of digital or electronic instructional materials

Statute also requires school districts to review e-samples during the adoption process
