Sunbrella Fabric is a solution dyed acrylic from Glen Raven’s Sunbrella Marine Grade collection that is considered the standard cover cloth in the boating industry because of its fantastic color options, high resistance to fading, and long life span. Sunbrella is a soft, breathable, solution-dyed acrylic that is UV, water, and mildew resistant and does not noticeably shrink or stretch. Gore Tenara sewing thread has unique properties. This thread is unaffected by sunlight and UV radiation will not weaken or degrade it. Polyester threads, under daily sunlight exposure will lose as much as half their strength in as little as one year, and be down to 10% of their original strength in 3 years. Tenara maintains its strength and color indefinitely. The thread will outlast the fabric that it is sewn into. Comes with a full warranty to that effect. It is unaffected by canvas cleaning solutions and will not stain, rot or mildew. Dirt just wipes off. Using Gore Tenara Sewing Thread means seams that will last.

Tenara sewing thread original style is the first generation of Tenara outdoor sewing thread. The original style sewing thread is not lubricated, with an elongation (or stretch) of five to seven percent.

SEWING & BINDING • Binding

centerfold

Centerfold has a natural fold in the center. It can be used with or without guides. Centerfold will not “neck down” under tension. The blind side behaves the same as the front.

Bias cut Binding

The binding is cut from the bias, which is a 45° angle to the warp of the fabric. This cutting method allows the binding to bend around gentle curves nicely.

straight cut Binding

This binding is cut straight off the roll. It is a narrow strip of fabric to cover raw edges. It can be on sewn to the inside where it won’t be seen, or on the outside to show as a decoration.

Facing

Facing is wider than traditional folded binding. It can be used as a zipper facing or cover and hem application.

Ultra seal Foam

Ultra seal foam is a closed-cell, foam weather stripping with a flatter profile design that works well with Common Sense fasteners and is easier to sew. The foam welt can be glued to most surfaces or sewn to materials to provide an excellent edge seal with great weather and water protection. Place ultra seal under the binding edge on the inside of the finished surface and sew or glue in place. Place the material and Ultra Seal under sewing machine canvas side up. Install fasteners right through the foam and fabric assembly.

Xtreme Seal weather stripping is thick enough to support snap fastener installation and is perfect for sealing all types of custom covers, convertible tops, dodgers, side curtains, windshield tops, radar arches and awnings.Place Xtreme seal under the binding edge on the inside of the finished surface as shown. Place the material and Xtreme Seal under sewing machine canvas side up. Install fasteners right through the foam and fabric assembly.

Flex-A-Rail white 10’ long (PVC extrusion) is a great awning track for twisting around corners. Steam heat if necessary to bend. Easy to cut with a hacksaw. Drill holes every 4-12 inches through the center of the track with at least one hole next to each end of the track. Screw down the track to secure.Pair this awning track with the vinyl extruded awning rope (great seal, but fits very snugly and hard to work around a corner with a radius tighter than 10”). Attach the awning rope to fabric and pull through the groove in the awning track.

Vent Aire Ventilator is a lightweight vent that brings needed air circulation to tightly fitting covers. Condensation can be a problem in covers that are made from fabrics that do not breathe. These covers are made from a tough, pliable plastic that snaps back without damage after being folded or flattened. When added to a cover, the Vent Aire Ventilator will alleviate condensation problems by allowing airflow.To install, cut an opening in the fabric, cover the raw edges with binding tape and sew in the vent. To keep rodents out, install a screen of Phifertex Mesh.
