TEXTILES IN PAKISTAN - Textiles is the most important manufacturing & exporting sector in Pakistan which has the potential for the development & value-addition at every single phase. - Providing the employment to almost 40% of industrial labor force. - The share of Textile exports is around 60% of the total exports of Pakistan. - Pakistan is 4th largest cotton producer & 3rd largest consumer of cotton. - Pakistan is standing on the 12th ranking in the exports of textiles within the world.

DEVELOPMENTS AND PRODUCTSAt current stage, Pakistan has state-of-the-art machinery when it comes to Textiles along with the skilled labor class.

The updating of machinery, software and training of Human Resource in their respective areas, has enabled Pakistan to produce the best quality product which can compete anywhere in the world.

The less production cost and the lead delivery time for products are the major areas which have givenPakistan priority on the rest of the world.

-Pakistani Cotton is an average Cotton with Medium Staple Length and usually don’t considered good for making fine Counts.

-Best used for making of Coarse counts and fabrics.

- Contamination level is on higher side which can be reduced with efforts and training of workers at field.

- Concept of Organic Cotton should be flourished in Pakistan as it’s a need of time.

- Pakistani Cotton Thread for fine Count is considered as” Golden Thread “ in export market (made with imported Cotton).

- Major Export of Pakistan in Textiles is in the field of Cotton Yarn as many countries are only focused on value-addition and don’t waste time in producing the raw materials.

- Industry Is focused and based only for the cotton yarn. Value-added yarn ratio for export is less for which the Government is focusing and launching new projects and incentives to promote

increased in last 1 year time.

- Pakistan’s Greige fabric is considered as top ranking fabric in world’s market.

- Designs and innovations regarding patterns and colors need to be focused further to create the demand in market.

DEVELOPMENTS AND PRODUCTSGarments (Woven and Knitted)- Pakistan’s Garment sector is dominated by Denim in Woven

and also has great potential in field of Knitted materials.

- Current range of woven garments include Khakis, Jackets, Shirts, Trousers, Cargos, Kids wear.

- Knitted Section includes Stockings, Hosiery Materials, Polo Shirts, Pique Shirts.

- Garment sector include the local brands and also catering some foreign brands in our Industries as well.

- Government exposure and marketing campaigns are focused to promote the local brands in international market.

DEVELOPMENTS AND PRODUCTS Leather and Leather Goods/Carpets- Leather and Leather Goods are another potential area from revenue generation in Pakistan.

- Leather products include Jackets/Gloves/Shoes/Sports goods.

- Carpet Industry is also an integral part of the Textile Sector which is still based and working on old fashioned hand-knotted methods.

- Pakistani hand-Made Carpets are considered as Fine Quality Carpets in whole World

WOMEN ENTERPRENUER WITH TDAP

To boost the WE, TDAP has organized a series of seminars on the ‘basic requirements of exports’ for the women entrepreneurs in Karachi, Peshawar, Sialkot, Multan in Lahore covering- Fundamental of Exports, - Export Finance, - Export Marketing Tools, - Legal Aspects etc.  TDAP has also begun its Level-2 seminars for women entrepreneurs from year 2007.

Skill Development/Training Programs/ Seminars/Workshops

As a part of Export Strategy, TDAP has included Women Entrepreneurship in its core program throughTrade and enhancing Commercial Activities withinWomen Entrepreneurs.

WOMEN ENTERPRENUER WITH TDAPTDAP has been holding Wexnet – an exclusive exhibition for women entrepreneurs only alternatively at Karachi and Lahore. Wexnet also include investment conferences, product workshops and match-making sessions and provides women entrepreneurs an opportunity for net working. TDAP is also subsidizing and organizing WEXNET successfully since year ‘2000’.  TDAP has regularly published directory for women entrepreneurs participating in Wexnet exhibitions.

WEXNET EXHIBITION/DIRECTORY

75% SUBSIDY TO FEMALE FASHION DESIGNERS FOR DISPLAY OF PRODUCTS ABROAD

TDAP has further facilitated the women fashion designers and fashion houses owned by women entrepreneurs to display their designs & products abroad in identified exhibitions to achieve the twin objectives of women development and export enhancement.

WOMEN ENTERPRENUER WITH TDAPTDAP has also sent women delegations in Bangladesh, UK & Holland. These delegations were specialized in handicrafts and other hand-made items. Women are also included in all general delegations sent abroad by TDAP. Women entrepreneurs have been subsidized and are beneficiary of all the promotional programs being under taken by TDAP.

EHIBITIONS/DELEGATIONS

DATABASE ON WOMEN ENTERPRENUERS

TDAP has recently developed a comprehensive database of women entrepreneurs from all over Pakistan in consultation with all major chambers, associations of the country. This database will help to promote smaller units of women exporters to grow into medium sized and push medium sized units through marketing efforts to grow into large sized units exclusively for women entrepreneur.

FUTURE PROJECTSTDAP has currently working on many projects regarding Textiles.with focus not only to the revenue generation but also emphasizing on the vocational training of Human Resource and Degree/Diploma programs.

Many Projects are in progress in collaboration with EDF. -Establishment of Pakistan Institute of Fahsion Designing in Karachi and Islamabad.- Establishment of Carpet Institute at Hala And Quetta- Establishment of National Institute of Leather Technology at Lahore- Handicrafts Exhibitions on International Level- Exposure to Contemporary Fashion Designers to abroad.- Launching of new Brands and Foreign Brands Licensing in Pakistan
