Page 2: Textual ana q foo fighters

This cover is from Q magazine. The person on the front page is Dave Grohl who is the lead singer of Foo fighters. The Q logo is placed on the top left-hand side of the cover with part of Grohl hair is coving but can still be clearly read. The colours used are red, white, black and dark green colour. The image is placed in the middle and other stories that readers will find inside the magazines are placed around the side and the barcode with the price of the magazine is clearly seen.

The reason why they have used the colour red mainly is because of the fact that the Qs logo is in red and this helps the writing link in with the magazine. The colour red is also used at the important part of the writing that needs to stand out more to show the readers what they will get if they were to buy the magazine and they have also made the artist/bands name in capital letters to help it stand out even more. By choosing all these colours, it helps the writing stand out more from the white and slightly black towards the bottom background.

Another thing that they have used is a play on words. For example, at the bottom it says, ‘…saves rock. Again.’ This is been included because Dave Grohl was in one of the most famous rock bands called Nirvana and now he is in Foo Fighters who are almost just as famous and loved as what Nirvana was. Also, they have added a quote from the article inside the magazine, “this will kill me!” when the audience reads this they automatically wonder what he may be talking about. What will kill him? So to cure the reader’s curiosity they will have to buy the magazine to find out. This is a smart way of bringing the audience in by using short catchy quotes that makes the audience wonder.

Majority of the font is all the same apart from the last bit about David Grohl. This helps the reader feel more comfortable because they are used to the same sort of look and it also makes the article look more professional because their target audience are more for people aged 25 to late 30s.

The cover has a circle with the word ‘free’ in it. This is to attract the audience even more because they know that you cannot turn down free stuff these days. Also, the cover has used the rule of 3rds on the left hand side and the writing is slightly bigger than the ones on the right. This is because the people that are being included on the left are slightly more famous and their audience may light them more slightly than the ones that are being included on the right.

The image of Dave Grohl almost fills the whole cover and is slightly covering the logo. This shows the audience that he has basically took over Q magazine for this issue and that it shouldn’t be missed.
