Forest School Miss Peel returned to Park last week to run Forest School sessions with our Year 1 children. The groups this week and last week have been learning about minibeasts, their habitats, names and how to be kind and caring. Some children were scared at first but were supported by their friends and were ‘Go for it Gorillas’ in gaining confidence to pick them up gently with leaves or even to hold them. They also found some slugs eggs hiding under a log!

Able Writers’ Day Ms Ballesteros took a group of Year 5 children to Stratford Library last week to participate in Newham’s Able Writers’ Day. The children displayed great competency and confidence in working with children from other schools and in their poetry performance. Ms Ballesteros was very proud of the impressive poetry the children produced, and of their behaviour throughout the day.

Year 4 Roman London Visit Year 4 explored Roman London last week. Firstly, we visited the London Guildhall Art Gallery where we witnessed the remains of an actual Roman amphitheatre – the site of many a gladiatorial battle. We then moved on to the nearby Museum of London where we experienced how London changed through the Roman era. It was an interesting start to our topic on the Romans. We would like to draw your attention to forthcoming events as part of the Londinium Festival where children have a chance to handle roman objects – Roman London: Half term fun 21-22 October 12pm-4pm (FREE) at Museum of London; and also 21st October at 3:30pm Liberiorum Londinium (Children’s London) at Guildhall Art Gallery (FREE).

Fundraising for Charity in Summer Holidays One of our caring, kind-hearted Year 4 boys, decided to clear out his room of books and toys he no longer uses, and to make a stall, selling them to raise funds for charity. He did this on the last weekend of the summer holidays. Lots of local people stopped and donated money for toys, books, tea, coffee and biscuits. The total raised was £164.96. This thoughtful young man has sent the money, half to Cancer Research UK, and half to Malaria No More; both charities he is very keen to support.

Parent/Carer Day This term’s Parent/Carer Day is taking place on Wednesday 18th October. School closes at 1:00pm. Children must be collected at this time.

Please double check that you have the correct date in your diary. The date was changed in the spring term from Thursday 19th October when some of our staff and families will be celebrating Diwali, to Wednesday 18th October.
