4th Grade Family Nutrition Newsletter Lesson 9: Hydration!
Everyone Needs to Drink 8 Cups of Water a Day!
When you are very active or on hot days you need to drink even more.
Water hydrates your body and keeps it functioning properly.
Headaches?
Many people and students suffer from mid-‐afternoon headaches. A headache can be a sign of dehydration.
Take a water bottle with you to work or school so you can hydrate all day long.
Thirsty? Hungry?
• By the time you feel thirsty, your body is already dehydrated. Drink water throughout the day to quench your thirst.
• Have you ever been hungry an hour after you eat? More than likely your body needs water rather than food.
Soda pop, energy drinks, and other sugary beverages add extra calories and sugar to the diet. Try this healthy Italian soda recipe with your family. It tastes great and has no added sugar!

Keep Track
Use a refillable water bottle to keep track of how much water you drink a day!
Purchase a refillable water bottle. They are safer to drink water out of than plastic bottles and are better for the environment.
