Ron Persuitte Re-Elected Chairman of Barnstable Municipal Airport Commission, John Griffin is New Vice Chairman

Ronald Persuitte of Barn-stable Village has been unani-mously re-elected chairman of the Barnstable Municipal Air-port Commission, and veteran commissioner John Griffin has been unanimously elected vice chairman, succeeding Donald Megathlin, who did not seek re-election. Robert O’Brien was chosen for another term as clerk of the commission.

Persuitte, who was reap-pointed to the commission by the Barnstable Town Council Thursday for another three-year term, has been a member since 2007 and previously served as head of the commis-sion’s finance subcommittee. He owns an investment plan-ning and counseling service in Hyannis.

“I appreciate the opportu-nity to continue to lead the commission at this challeng-ing time for the airport when we are seeking to increase both passengers and operating revenue,” he said last Tuesday at the commission’s regular monthly meeting.

Griffin, who lives in Cen-terville, has served on the airport commission since 1998 and was previously vice chair-man. He currently heads the commission’s infrastructure subcommittee.

In making their choice for vice chairman, Griffin’s col-leagues noted his experience in aviation and airport opera-tions. He is a licensed private pilot, former chief executive officer of the East Coast Aero Technical School, located at Hanscom Field in Bedford, and former president of the Aero Club of New England.

The town council also re-appointed Commissioner Mi-chael Dunning of Barnstable Village to another three-year term.

CCYP Announces Shape the Cape Initiative

Cape Cod Young Profession-als has announced the launching of its Shape the Cape initiative, which will provide a thorough study of the region’s demo-graphics.

The initiative will examine why people stay on Cape Cod, why people leave and how to build solutions across our com-munity to retain 25- to 44-year-old Cape Codders.

“Never before have we had the roadmap for solving this challenging issue, and we hope to bring that forward,” said Anne Van Vleck, CCYP’s ex-ecutive director. “This initia-tive aligns with CCYP’s goals of retaining and recruiting a diverse workforce for our region, building healthy and vibrant communities, and increasing civic engagement for the bet-terment of the future of Cape Cod.”

Over the next nine to 12 months, CCYP will partner with the Kitty and Michael Dukakis Center for Urban and Regional Policy at Northeastern Uni-versity to collect data, insights and ideas for solutions that will result in developing community action steps for addressing the issue of the out-migration of the

25- to 44-year-old demographic on Cape Cod. In the coming months, CCYP will communi-cate a work plan for this project and reach out to the community for their participation in col-lecting information and their partnership in the solutions.

CCYP announced the Shape the Cape initiative during its second annual Community Breakfast on June 4 at the Cape Codder Resort & Spa in Hyannis.

CCYP Awards Scholarships and Unveils New Logo at Community Breakfast

Cape Cod Young Profession-als awarded five Career Connect scholarships and introduced its new brand during its second annual Community Breakfast.

CCYP presented $15,000 of Career Connect scholarships awarded to five local young pro-fessionals to help them continue their education and professional development on Cape Cod. One of the scholarships is supported by Figawi Charities.

The scholarship winners are Melissa Alden of Marstons Mills, who will continue her legal education; Karla Cal-lachan of Yarmouth, who is in graduate program for organiza-

tional management at UMass Dartmouth; Emily Edwards of Orleans, who is pursuing her master’s in education and Span-ish at American International College; Jonathan Rouillard of Eastham, who is attending the Massachusetts School of Barbering; and Maura Weir of Buzzards Bay, who is working toward a doctorate in clinical psychology at the Massachu-setts School of Professional Psychology. CCYP has awarded 13 scholarships totaling $39,000 since 2012.

At the Community Breakfast, CCYP released its online annu-al report (available on CCYP’s website under “resources”) and unveiled a new logo, designed by the Marketing Committee’s Design Team.

“We have a new, fresh look that expresses the development and intent of the organization, moving forward more deliber-ately as ‘CCYP’,” said Anne Van Vleck, CCYP’s executive director.

Nauset Disposal, a CCYP Premier Sponsor, was the Pre-senting Sponsor for the event.

CCYP was founded in No-vember 2005 with the idea that Cape Cod could benefit from an organization of young people dedicated to the betterment of the region. Today CCYP is the only organization of its kind serving the region.
