Thursday 25th July 2019 Dear Parents, Caregivers and Community Members,
Welcome back to the start of term 3. I hope students and families enjoyed their time together and are ready to go as we begin another busy term for staff and students. On Monday the 22nd of July CBPS staff participated in professional development around Maths programing using the number and algebra strand. Lots of practical ideas were given to staff to help students engage in hands on maths activities. SSO’s were also involved in a workshop to help support students who are feeling upset or disengaged in the learning environment. This term we also have our water safety program for students in reception to year 5. This will be happening in week 6 at Noarlunga Swimming Centre. A note will go home to families next week with more information about our swimming program. This term we will also be beginning our Deadly Connections Program. This is a transition program for Aboriginal students at Taikurrendi and Christie Downs Kindergarten who will be starting reception at Christies Beach Primary in 2019. There are four transition visits planned running fortnightly beginning on Friday the 2nd of August. Students in years 5, 6 and 7 will also be involved in a school camp to Walkers Flat in week 8. Staff are working hard to ensure it will be a fun and rewarding experience for the students who attend. Also this term we will be involved in an External Site Review. This will be happening on Monday and Tuesday in week 6. There is more information in this newsletter about the external review process and a permission slip to fill in and return to school
if you do not want your child to participate in the review process. Kind Regards,

FOODBANK - FOOD DRIVE This year Foodbank SA is running a School Food Drive. We at CBPS receive assistance from Foodbank in running our breakfast club. In return we would like to pay it forward. This year we will be participating in the food drive and are asking for people to contribute with non-perishable items. The most wanted items include: rice, pasta sauce, canned fruit and vegies, canned tuna, jams and spreads, long life milk and breakfast cereal. The food drive will run from 27/7 until the 27/9. If you would like to donate any items please give them to Jen in Breakfast Club, Monday to Friday 8.00am-9.00am or please drop into the front office. Thank you in advance,
Jen
NCCD DATA COLLECTION
Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with
Disability (NCCD).
All schools are required to collect information about the numbers of students that they provide
adjustments to under the Disability Discrimination Act (1992) and Disability Standards of Education This data
is used as the basis for national funding.
The NCCD involves the collection of;
the number of students receiving adjustments to enable them to participate in education on
the same basis as other students
the level of adjustment provided to students
student’s type of disability if known Under the model the definition of disability is broad and includes learning difficulties, health and mental
health conditions. If your child is identified for inclusion in the Collection, the required information will be included in this year’s
data collection. If you have any questions about the data collection,
please contact John Irwin on 83821511. Further information can be found at:

NAIDOC MARCH
NAIDOC Week March and Community Event.
NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. NAIDOC Week celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and achievements. It is always the first Sunday in July until the following Sunday. Our local NAIDOC March down Beach Road and Community event at Rotary park was on 3rd July.
Approximately 200 CBPS Year 1 – Year 7 students participated in the march and attended the community event. We especially appreciated the SAPOL presence on the roads and the volunteers who made the march a safe walk for children. We would also like to thank the Onkaparinga Council for their generous donation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags that were distributed at the Market Square prior to the march. The children were very excited to be able to wave the flags as they walked down Beach Road. The Community Event was opened with a Welcome to Country by Aunty Georgina Williams. Many Service Providers had stalls with activities and giveaways, and there was also a free BBQ.

FUNDRAISING Notes will be going home today for our Father’s Day Stall on Thursday the 22nd of August. Payments can be made by cash or card and are due to the front office no later than Wednesday the 21st August.
SHOWDOWN On Saturday the 6th July a group of Year 6/7 girls
attended the Crows vs Port game at Adelaide Oval.
After winning the South Adelaide Crows Cup earlier
this year, they were invited to play on the oval at half
time. Playing in front of 50,000 people was an
experience that definitely doesn’t come along very
often and the girls enjoyed every second of it. Mr
Irwin was also able to show off his goal umpiring skills.
It was an awesome night and the girls are already
looking forward to the finals in early term 4.
