Why does the ban exist?

To protect children and young people from the

dangers of second-hand smoke

This ban ensures that children and young people can enter and leave these areas without being exposed to harmful second-hand smoke. Second-hand tobacco smoke is particularly dangerous to children and young people because they have smaller airways and less developed immune systems compared to adults. To reduce the role modelling of smoking behaviours around children and young people Children and young people are more likely to view smoking as socially acceptable when they regularly see people smoking. Banning smoking in areas used by children and young people will help to denormalise smoking behaviour and discourage children and young people from taking up smoking.

Movie Night Thank you to our Fabulous Fundraising Team who ‘kicked off’ Term Two with a movie night. Unfortunately, the weather prevented an outside picnic however; we had a wonderful evening in the BER watching ‘Storks’ with a small group of families. Next on the calendar is the Mother’s day Stall and high tea. We hope to see you all there.

NAPLAN The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) 2017 for Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 students will be held on Tuesday 9 May, Wednesday 10 May and Thursday 11 May 2017. All students are expected to participate in the NAPLAN tests. During test week, catch-up tests will be available for individual students who are absent on test days. These students may undertake catch-up tests on the days in the test week after the scheduled test, up to and including Friday 12 May 2017. Further information was provided to Year 3 and Year 5 students earlier this week. If you would like to discuss NAPLAN with your students teachers please don’t hesitate to make an appointment.

The 2017 Attitudes to Schools Survey

We want our student to tell us what they think Our school is conducting a survey to find out what your child thinks of our school. The Attitudes to School survey is an annual student survey offered by the Department of Education and Training. The survey assists schools in gaining an understanding of students' perceptions and experience of school. Our school will use the survey results to plan programs and activities to improve your child's schooling experience. This year the Attitudes to School survey will be conducted at our school between Monday 22 May to Friday 23 June. The survey only takes 20-30 minutes to complete and occurs during your child's class time. Students from Year 4 to Year 6 at our school will participate in the survey. Your child will complete the survey online during school hours using a purpose built secure online survey tool. The survey results will be reported back to the school in Term 3. The Department has updated the survey for 2017 to include important new measures that are known to influence student engagement and performance.

Students’ privacy is our priority Your child will be provided with a unique login to complete the survey. The student login is an assigned identifier that may be used by the Department to combine data for research purposes only. Your child’s privacy and the confidentiality of your child’s survey responses will be protected at all times. No identifiable personal data is included in the survey response file. This survey is not a test and your child has the right to refuse or withdraw from the survey at any point before, during, or after completion.

Want to know more? Please speak to your child’s teacher if you would like more information
