Co-curricular activities are an integral part of curriculum which provide educational opportunities to the students and thereby help in broadening their experiences. Co- curricular activities can be defined as the activities that enhance and enrich the regular curriculum during the normal school hours. All co-curricular activities are organised with a specific purpose. These activities are designed to meet the needs of the students and cover a wide range of their abilities and talents. Such activities stimulate the interest of students and provide equal opportunities to all the students to participate. These activities enhance the learning experience of the students and help in recognizing and developing their innate skills such as leadership qualities, creative or innovative skills etc. Co-curricular activities give the students a chance to think out of their box and get creative ideas of their own. These activities help the students in developing rich learning experiences by giving them a chance to think in new ways to solve a problem or answer a question. The normal curriculum gives students an insight into theoretical aspect of the concepts taught but extra-curricular activities help the students to apply what they have learnt in their practical life. These activities help in developing the grasping power of the students and provide an opportunity to them to work in teams, thus, developing team spirit in them. We are indeed proud of Shivam of class XII who has been declared Best Pianoist in the National Level Open Music Competition organised by Trinity College of Music, London on 13-14 November 2013 in Jesus and Mary College, New Delhi. Nishad of class XI received a cash prize of Rs. 1000/- for securing first position in Harmonium playing at the State Level Open Music Competition organised by Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Govt. of India on 19 November 2013 at Hisar. He has made the record of being the Youngest Instrumental Player at the State Level. The prize was given by Smt. Savitri Jindal, Urban Local Bodies Minister, Govt. of Haryana in a formal ceremony on 21 November 2013. He was selected to represent Haryana in the National Level Competition scheduled in the month of January 2014, where he was adjudged as the Youngest Indian to be conferred the National Award in Harmonium Playing for his spell-binding performance at Ludhiana, Punjab in the 18 th Open National Youth Festival organised by the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, Govt. of India. He was honoured by a Cabinet Minister with a cash prize of Rs. 6000/-, a certificate of appreciation, two trophies along with a gift item. He was also honoured by Sri Ravi Dhan Singh, Chief Parliament Secretary, Govt. of Haryana on the occasion of Republic Day Celebrations at Hisar.

The School Choir (vocal) bagged the first prize in the District Level Group Song

Competition organised by Bharat Vikas Parishad, Hisar at Sushilla Bhawan on 3

August 2014 and qualified for the State Level Competition.

In the Solo Song Competition held at Bal Bhawan, Hisar on 24 October 2013,

Niharika Dubey of class VII bagged the first prize in the second group and Tanya

Arora of class XI got the third position in the third group, Niharika Dubey

participated in the Zonal Level Competition and received third prize in the

competition.

Our students brought laurels in the ‘Design a Stamp’ contest organised by the Postal

Department at Hisar on 20 November 2013. In Group I, Shivani and Vansh Sehrawat

of class V bagged the first and second prize respectively in group II, Rudraksh of

class IX received the second prize. In group III Amisha Periwal of class XI and Janvi

Sahu of class XII received the second and third prizes respectively.

Six students of our school received certificates of Merit in the ‘Design a Stamp’

contest organised by Postal Department on 20 November 2013 at Head Post Office,

Hisar.

In the Group Dance Competition held on 25 Oct. 2013, OPJMS team comprising 11

girls bagged the first prize at the District Level Competition. They participated in the

Zonal Level Competition and secured second position. OPJMS bagged second prize in

the Inter School Folk Dance Competition organised by St. Francis Xavier’s School,

Hisar on 22 November 2013.

Shubha Mahajan of class IX received a cash prize of Rs. 600/- for securing third

position in Solo Dance at the State Level Open Dance Competition organised by

Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Govt. of India on 19 November 2013 at

Hisar. The prize was given by Smt. Savitri Jindal, Govt. of Haryana in a formal

ceremony on 21 November 2013.

Shubha Mahajan of class X participated in a National Level, Programme ‘Chakradhar

Samaroh’ organised by royal family of Chhatisgarh. Bhavey Arya of class VI got Siti

Dancing Star Award in a dance competition organised by Siti Channel on 1 Feb 2014.

Shubha Mahajan got first prize in the middle group.

Prashant of class XII and Nikita Jain of class XI pocketed first prizes in the Zonal

Level Sketch on the Spot and Poster Making Competitions organized by Haryana

State Council for Child Welfare respectively on 6 November 2013. They also grabbed

first prize in the Sketch on the Spot Competition respectively on 21 Oct. 2013.

OPJMS won the Runner’s Up Rolling Trophy in the OP Jindal Inter- School Art

Competition for Girls and Boys organized by Jindal Foundation at VDJS on 7th August

2014. Amisha Perimal of class XI bagged second prize in both outdoor winter

colours and Mehandi Competition. Megha Soni of class XI also pocketed second prize

in the Logo Designing Competition. Kirti and Lavanya of class X and Subhankar of

class XI each bagged third prize in the Fabric Painting, Pot Designing and Portrait

Making Competitions respectively. Muskan of class X received a consolation prize in

the Pen and Ink Competition.

OPJMS believes that activities help to nurture in students qualities such as

leadership, integrity, resilience, perseverance, sense of justice, essential life skills

promoting long life lessons and enabling them to meet the challenges of the future

aligned with OPJMS vision and mission.
