Please be reminded that any gambling not specifically ap-proved by the Bureau of Gambling Control (“Bureau”) is strictly prohibited on property and/or while on duty.

It has recently been reported that some team members and key employees are participating in ‘gambling’ activities while on property and/or while on duty. Specifically, we are aware of incidents of sports betting on our property. With the foot-ball season approaching, football and Super Bowl pools may be offered to you. You may not engage in or participate in any betting, wagering or gaming that is not approved by the Bureau.

Doing so will jeopardize the Casino’s license and your em-ployment (Refer to Team Member Handbook, Page 16 - Par-ticipating in illegal gambling activities (for example, football pools or cheating) on Casino property is prohibited.

lf you have any questions regarding this policy, feel free to contact the Human Resources Department or your supervi-sor immediately. We appreciate your advance cooperation in this matter.

ACCIDENT REPORTINGWhat should you do when an injury or accident happens in the workplace?

Make Sure to Report It as soon as an accident or injury oc-curs; you must report it immediately to your supervisor. Re-member that failure to report an injury/illness, does not only delay a team member’s claim for compensation but may also result in disciplinary action.

Reporting a work related injury/illness is a simple process:

1. Notify your supervisor immediately.

2. Accompany your supervisor to Security Department.

3. Complete the accident investigation paperwork provided by the Security staff.

In order to determine the cause of the accident/illness, your supervisor will be responsible for completing an “Accident Investigation Form”. This will assist Human Resources and Management in preventing future incidents and accidents of this nature.

If the accident investigation determines that a failure to com-ply with the company’s safety policies and procedures is the cause of the injury/illness, disciplinary action may be taken.

REMEMBER: The First Aid Station is located in the Security Department and is available to all team members for minor injuries/illnesses that may occur at work. Our trained Security staff will be able to assist you with these minor injuries/ill-nesses.

For emergency care that extends beyond the ability of our first aid stations, there is a clinic open 24-hours (HealthFirst) that can provide The Bicycle Hotel and Casino with medical service.

It is EVERY TEAM MEMBER’S RESPONSIBILITY to follow all safety procedures and policies while at work.

To assist team members in being proactive avoiding injuries/accidents in the workplace, here are a few tips to keep you safe:

Be Aware of Your Surroundings.Always scan your work environment for any potential haz-ards that can lead to accidents or injuries. If you see any hazards, report them to your supervisor immediately.

Eyes Up!Do not get distracted by your phone, as being glued to your phone (texting, “Snapchatting”, “Instagramming”, or play-ing Pokemon Go) makes it hard for you to see what is in front of you. Being distracted when walking can easily lead to slip, trip, or fall incidents.

Report Any Spills.Spills, as small as they may be, have to be reported to Housekeeping for immediate clean up. Be a proactive team member. When you come across a spill on the floor, imme-diately place a cone or stand by the spill to alert others to avoid the area until housekeeping is notified for assistance.

Safety is the responsibility of all The Bicycle Hotel and Casino team members. Let’s continue to make sure we keep our work environment a safe place to work at.

NATIONAL IMMUNIZATION AWARENESS MONTHAugust is National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM). Immunizations represent one of the greatest public health accomplishments of the 20th century. The purpose of NIAM is to celebrate the benefits of vaccination and highlight the importance of vaccination for people of all ages.

All adults should get vaccines to protect their health. Even healthy adults can become seriously ill, and can pass cer-tain illnesses on to others. Everyone should have their vac-cination needs assessed at their doctor’s office, pharmacy or other visits with healthcare providers. Certain vaccines are recommended based on a person’s age, occupation, or health conditions; such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), diabetes, or heart disease.

Vaccination is important because it not only protects the person receiving the vaccine but also helps to prevent the spread of disease, especially to those that are most vulner-able to serious complications; such as infants and young children, elderly, and those with chronic conditions and weakened immune systems.

All adults, including pregnant women, should get the influ-enza (flu) vaccine each year to protect against seasonal flu. Every adult should have one dose of Tdap vaccine (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis or whooping cough) if they did not get Tdap as a teen, and then get the Td (tetanus and diphtheria) booster vaccine every 10 years. In addition, pregnant women are recommended to get the Tdap vac-cine each time they are pregnant, preferably at 27 through 36 weeks.

Adults 60 and older are recommended to receive the shin-gles vaccine. Also, adults 65 and older are recommended to receive one or more pneumococcal vaccines. Some adults younger than 65 with certain high risk conditions are also recommended to receive one or more pneumococcal vaccinations.

Adults may need other vaccines – such as hepatitis A, hepatitis B, and HPV – depending on their age, occupa-tion, travel, medical conditions, vaccinations that they have already received, or other considerations.

For more information visit the National Public Health Infor-mation Coalition webpage: www.nphic.org/niam

THE COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS 2016Students participated in a highly competitive process de-signed by the Foundation, to identify future leaders who reside in the City of Bell Gardens. Through a combination of application, letters of recommendation, transcripts, per-sonal essay and an in person interview with the selection committee of the Foundation, these five students emerged and will each receive a $5,000 scholarship award and a laptop computer.

On behalf of The Bicycle Hotel & Casino Community Foun-dation, we are pleased to announce this year’s recipients. - Congratulations!

On August 25, 2009; Ed-ward “Ted” Kennedy died of brain cancer at age 77 at home in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts. He was the youngest brother of

President John F. Kennedy and a Massachusetts’ senator from 1962 to 2009. Ted Kennedy was one of the longest-serving senators in American history, a leader of the Demo-cratic Party, and a spokesman for liberal causes. He was known for his ability to work with those on both sides of the political aisle.

On August 27, 1955, the first edition of “The Guinness Book of Records” was published in Great Britain. It quickly proved to be a hit. Now known as the “Guinness World Records” book, the annual publication features

a wide range of feats related to humans and animals. To date, the book has sold more than 130 million copies, been translated into more than two dozen languages and is the top-selling copyrighted title in history.

On August 14,1935, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed into law the Social Security Act. Press photographers snapped pictures as FDR, flanked by ranking members of Congress, signing into law the historic act, which guaranteed an income for the unemployed and retirees. FDR commend-ed Congress for what he considered to be a “patriotic” act.

BIKE EMPLOYEES SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS 2016The Bicycle Hotel & Casino Community Foundation has established a scholarship program to assist team members’ children who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school program. Scholarships are offered each year for full-time study at an accredited institution of the student’s choice. On behalf of the Bicycle Hotel & Casino Community Foundation, we are pleased to announce this year’s four recipients who will be awarded $5,000 and a laptop computer each. - Congratulations!
