July 4th run Again this year we would like to staff a water table for thirsty runners participating in the Firecracker Four race. Island Youth Retreat Immanuel, Mankato, MN is hosting an Island Youth Retreat August 2-6 for those entering 9th grade through those who have just graduated from high school. See the poster on the bulletin board or write to islandyouthretreat@gmail.com.

Vacation time? Many of us look forward to summer vacations as a time to get away, unwind, and recharge. Of course, we never want to use vacation as time away from God and the needed refreshment of His Word. If you’re away from home on a Sunday, consider visiting a nearby sister CLC congregation. Or if that isn’t possible, our services are always available on ustream. Another aspect of our worship is our offerings by which we express our love for the Savior, our trust in His provision of our daily bread, and our desire to support the work of the gospel here at Messiah and through our joint work in the CLC. If you are not able to be at worship one or more weeks, you can still follow Paul’s directive in 1 Cor. 16:2 and set aside a weekly offering for a future Sunday.

Confession and Absolution: P: Despite the perfect creation by the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we all have fallen into sin and failed to live as holy and perfect creatures. Let us confess our sins to God, our heavenly Father. C: O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth! You have set Your glory above the heavens! Yet we have failed to proclaim Your majestic name in our lives. We have denied Your glory and sought our own glory. The Athanasian Creed (part 1)

Pastor: Whoever desires to be saved must, above all, hold the catholic faith. People: Whoever does not keep it whole and undefiled, will without doubt

perish eternally.

Pastor: And the catholic faith is this, People: that we worship one God in trinity and Trinity in unity, neither

confusing the persons nor dividing the substance.

Pastor: For the Father is one person, the Son is another, and the Holy Spirit is another.

People: But the Godhead of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit is one: the glory equal, the majesty coeternal.

Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar: And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.

EDUCATION FOR THE REAL WORLD: HOLY, HOLY, HOLY IS OUR TRIUNE GOD!

I. It is His holiness that condemns our sin. II. It is His holiness that provides atonement for our sin.

Pastor: He is God, begotten from the substance of the Father before all ages; and He is man born of the substance of His mother in this age:

People: perfect God and perfect man, composed of a rational soul and human flesh;

Pastor: equal to the Father with respect to His divinity, less than the Father with respect to His humanity.

People: Although He is God and man, He is not two but one Christ:

Pastor: one, however, not by conversion of the divinity into flesh but by the assumption of the humanity into God;

People: one altogether, not by confusion of substance but by unity of person.

Pastor: For as the rational soul and flesh is one man, so God and man is one Christ,

People: who suffered for our salvation, descended into hell, rose again from the dead,

Pastor: ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father, from whence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

People: At His coming all people will rise again with their bodies and give an account concerning their own deeds.

Pastor: And those who have done good will enter into eternal life, and those who have done evil into eternal fire.

People: This is the catholic faith; whoever does not believe it faithfully and firmly, cannot be saved.

Pastor: And yet there are not three Eternals but one Eternal, People: just as there are not three Uncreated nor three Infinites but one

Uncreated and one Infinite.

Pastor: In the same way, the Father is almighty, the Son almighty, and the Holy Spirit almighty;

People: and yet they are not three Almighties but one Almighty.

Pastor: So the Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Spirit is God; People: and yet there are not three Gods but one God.

Pastor: So the Father is Lord, the Son is Lord, and the Holy Spirit is Lord; People: and yet there are not three Lords but one Lord.

Pastor: Just as we are compelled by the Christian truth to acknowledge each distinct person as God and Lord,

People: so also we are prohibited by the catholic religion to say that there are three Gods or Lords.

Prayer: P: Almighty and everlasting God, You have given us grace to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity by the confession of a true faith and to worship the Unity in the power of the Divine Majesty. Keep us steadfast in this faith and defend us from all adversities; for You, O Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, live and reign, one God, now and forever. C: Amen.

Pastor: The Father is not made, nor created nor begotten by anyone. The Son is neither made nor created, but begotten of the Father alone.

People: The Holy Spirit is of the Father and of the Son, neither made nor created not begotten but proceeding.

Pastor: Thus, there is one Father, not three Fathers; one Son, not three Sons; one Holy Spirit, not three Holy Spirits.

People: And in this Trinity none is before or after another; none is greater or less than another;

Pastor: but the whole three persons are coeternal with each other so that in all things, as has been stated above, the Trinity in Unity and Unity in Trinity is to be worshiped.

People: Therefore, whoever desires to be saved must think thus about the Trinity.
