Dear Friend,
Just as God paused on the seventh day of Creation to look back and take satisfaction in his handiwork, so too we pause to remind ourselves and our ministry partners of what God has done through the work of our hands.
In the beginning (2000), Chesterton House offered lectures designed to help students “think Christianly” across the disciplines, and we mentored graduate students who are now professors all over the world. In 2010, we embarked on an experiment in residential ministry. Today, God’s faithfulness is manifest in the recent provision to purchase a second facility immediately adjacent to the fi rst.
The residential and programming pillars of the ministry work together to create a conversational community that nourishes deep discipleship for all of life. As evidenced by C.S. Lewis and the Inklings, good community is critical to good thinking—or, as Josef Pieper once put it, “conversation is the habitat for truth.”
For example, world-class pianist Dr. Mia Chung recently joined us at the new residence for a senior recognition dinner and provided a teaser of the next evening’s public presentation by inaugurating our Kawai grand piano, one of many generous gifts to the house. This integration of living and learning, all grounded in the Christian tradition, is what we have always been after.
The ripple effect of these efforts is more than merely local. A forthcoming book from InterVarsity Press refers to Chesterton House as “one of the most if not the most infl uential Christian study center,” and Dr. Chung’s visit has inspired her to explore starting a study center at Harvard.
We invite you to pause with us and look back on what God has done at Chesterton House this year. We also invite you to partner with us. Beyond the annual fund of $350,000 necessary to sustain opportunities for Christian living and learning, additional capital funds are needed to complete the residential campus. Please prayerfully consider a gift to Chesterton House as together we equip and encourage students to make God's goodness visible in all of Creation.
Finally, we invite you to look forward with us— to the new facility dedication October 4-5, 2019, and to God’s faithfulness to future classes of Cornell students. After all, the seventh day of Creation is about hope as well as remembrance, teaching us that the future is full of promise.

"Although we brush past countless fellow students each day without a second glance, my experience as a resident has taught me the value of looking twice: there is no room for superficiality in a community where
the presence of each individual is counted irreplaceable. Living in the daily rhythm of this community has slowly nudged me out of self-absorption and made me more patient, attentive, and humble." —Anne-Sophie Olsen
