VWWA OBJECTIVES

The Virginia Water Well Association was established in June, 1949. The purposes, as set forth in the Association’s original Constitution, are as relevant today as they were in 1949:

To assist, promote, encourage, and support the interests and welfare of the ground water industries in all phases generally, and in particular within the Commonwealth of Virginia;

To foster, aid and promote scientific education, standards, research, and techniques in order to improve methods of well construction and development, and to advance the science of

groundwater hydrology;

To promote harmony and cooperation between well contractors, water treatment installers, onsite waste water systems installers and geothermal installers as well as governmental and

scientific agencies relevant to the proper development and protection of groundwater supplies;

To encourage cooperation of all interested groups relative to the improvement of drilling, pumping equipment, water treatment, waste water and geothermal technologies;

To encourage, serve assist and promote close cooperation with the National Ground Water Association, Inc.;

To collect, analyze and disseminate to the public facts about the role of the water well industry and the onsite water industries in general in the economy of the Commonwealth of Virginia and

of the nation; and,

To advance generally the mutual interests of all those engaged in the onsite groundwater industries, in their own and in the public interest. 2

Meet Chad Bordewyk - New Board Director

I’m a second generation driller and have worked alongside my father Curtis, for 30 years. I have always been interested in operating heavy equipment as a child, so being in the well drilling business has definitely given me that opportunity. I am now Vice President of Curtis Drilling Inc., in Rockville Virginia and have recently taken my father’s place as a board member for the VWWA, as he has semi-retired from the business. My wife Jennifer also works for Curtis Drilling, and I have two 13 year old daughters to help keep things interesting. I look forward to serving on the Virginia Water Well Association Board of Directors and helping make our industry the best it can be!

2015 Winter Conference Exhibitors

This year’s Winter Conference exemplified the perseverance of the membership by the great attendance in lieu of the winter storm. With the parking lots cleared and the hotel rooms filling up, the conference started out with the Opening Ceremony where Ken Gronbach of KGC Direct spoke on the upcoming diverse generation that is more populated than the Baby Boomers. With his encouraging insight to the age group of 11 to 30 year old, industries abroad are going to expand to accommodate the growing families. This means more homes, more utilities, more water, more products, more services, and more new businesses! A snapshot of advice from Ken was to invest in technology in every area possible to attract the upcoming generation. Be mindful of the varying ethnic groups in your community and allow

yourself to tap into a market that you may not currently serve! The day continued with the opening of the Trade Show where exhibitors lined the walls and filled the room! The floor was bustling as attendees made their way in to see what was new and make connections with their manufacturers and suppliers before heading to lunch and then afternoon classes. There were a few repeat courses from last year and many new topics introduced such as a filter pack media course from a German company, asset protection and tax savings to risk management policies for you and your employees. With over 25 hours available for continuing and vocational education, we extend a huge thank you to those who volunteer their time to present their expertise! After hours those who chose to participate in the Annual Jam Session or Banquet and Auction; walked away with smiles on their faces and memories in their heart. The ability to connect, learn, grow and develop relationships

with those that serve beside you in this industry is invaluable. It is the moments in the classroom where questions are asked and overhearing conversations in the hallway of how someone else solved a similar problem, or even the endorsement of particular product over another; that you truly understand that a conference is not just an agenda and list of companies. It is a community of problem solvers, entrepreneurs, innovators, and passionate individuals of family and friends. It is in these moments that you are truly ‘Refreshed’. Thank you for participating with us this year and we look forward to seeing you again in 2016!

As the current term for the WWSP seat on the Board of Contractors rolls over for the next representative, Mr. Todd Vander Pol of Matthews Well & Pump reflects upon his service; “It has been an honor and privilege to have represented the water well industry these last four years. It has enriched and enlarged my understanding of government and contracting in general. I also think that we have had some impact on guiding the Board towards good policy which for me is minimal but effective

regulation of the contractors working in Virginia.” Mr. Vander Pol has generously given his time to enable the water well industry to have a voice with those that pass legislation directly and indirectly throughout the year.
