A Word from Pastor Don
As an expression of a redirected and outwardly focused Pleas-antview, your staff has intentionally planned quarterly Sunday
worship experiences that are all about “them” and very little about “us.” This month, we have planned one of those experiences. It is called the Fall Roundup & Chili Cook-off and will be held right here at PBC on November 20 (details on page 2).
We envision November 20 being an incredible opportunity to open the Pleasantview doors to the neighborhood. My recent sermon se-ries marking out the spiritual journey included one mile marker called: Going. November 20 gives each of us an opportunity to “go” right here in our own back yard.
I want to ask you to join hands with other PBCers, and get around this opportunity. Look for ways to help us pull this one off. Pray for good weather. Find an area of service and serve with a smile. Tell your unchurched friends and neighbors to come to the chili cook-off judged by the Derby Fire Fighters, or have their children “identified for security” by the Derby Police Department. Tell them to come ride a horse or climb on a tractor.....and know that while they are here, they will see a picture of Christian baptism and learn what the New Testament teaches about it.
Get involved! Go! And know that as you go, God will bless!
Pastor Don

Christmas on the Rez...PBC Sends Hope!
On December 9-12, 2011 a team of 14 youth and adults will return to the Pine Ridge Reservation. During a very busy weekend, the team
will repair damage (caused by birds and bats) to the church, provide a Christmas dinner followed by a praise and worship concert, and they will also distribute “Christmas on the Rez” to the children. We need your help!
Christmas on the Rez: PBC is doing an “Angel” tree this year. Each Angel has a child’s age, gender, and gift ideas. Please provide 2 items for each Angel you select. Return all gifts (unwrapped and with your Angel at-tached) to PBC by November 27, 2011.
We will be wrapping all the gifts, so donations of wrapping paper and tape will be greatly appreciated!! We also need bags of candy (leftover Halloween candy works well!) for the kids.
Prepared Food for the Team: The team is seeking donations of prepared meals for the team and for Christmas dinner for the church. Please con-
tact Susan Opskar at 371-1682 for additional information and to volunteer.
New Shoe Drive: New shoes for boys and girls of all ages is a great need on the Rez this year. You can place shoes from little children’s to youth size 6 in the collection boxes located near the Member Information Center.
Ongoing Food Pantry (the church always needs food pantry sup-plies): Cases of canned fruits and vegetables Peanut butter and jelly Macaroni and cheese Beans and rice (1 and 2 pound bags) Powdered milk Instant potatoes Canned meats Pie filling Infant formula and diapers of all sizes Baby food Shampoo, conditioner, bath soap, deodorant Shaving supplies Toothpaste, toothbrushes, and mouthwash Feminine supplies
Women’s LifeGroup Opportunities
1Ladies, you have an opportunity to be a part of the study, SEED, by Priscilla Shirer on Wednesdays starting November 9th from 6:30-8:00 pm in Room 201. There is no end
date at this time.
Description of the study: Explore thought-provoking modern day parables while learning and applying a 5-point process for studying the scriptures on our own. Each 2-week sec-tion stands alone and covers a specific topic.
Please register at [email protected] or call the church office, 788-3734.
2Darlene Clark is starting a new LifeGroup for older adults living alone. It will meet on either Sunday afternoon or evening. If you are interested in this new LifeGroup, please
contact the Church Office (788-3734) or Darlene Clark (788-3952).
First 5
At our Leadership Retreat, we challenged Leaders and Members to implement a new strategy to interact with
visitors each Sunday called the First 5. For the first 5 minutes you enter for Worship and the first 5 minutes after the Worship Service we ask you to go and connect with people who are visiting or those who you do not know. If every member prac-tices the First 5 each Sunday morning, imagine how visitors would feel after attending Pleasantview? Help us connect with visitors each Sunday and do the “First 5”.
Passages Tour Gives History of the Bible
A group from PBC traveled to Oklahoma City on October 6th to see the Passages Exhibit at the OKC Museum of Art. This exhibit was a walk
through the history of the Bible like no other. There were displays of Jewish scrolls, one of the earliest near complete Bibles in the world, European trans-lations, early English Bibles and all the way up to the current King James Ver-sion we use today. Walking through the exhibit gave you a sense of real life to the history of God’s Word. Below are pictures from the group’s trip. Thank you to Lavonda Norrod who helped us plan the trip.
