Today more than ever, if wood is sourced correctly it is one of the most renewable resources in the world. Throughout my travels around the world my criteria is very stringent when searching for the best flooring for our customers.

One requirement that must be ticked is the factory's ability to reduce and maintain minimal greenhouse gas emissions.

We use wood that is planted for the production of natural rubber as the base for our flooring. This means the tree is not removed from the forest. It is only felled when it has to be replaced towards the end of its natural productive life cycle for rubber.

Andrew RobinsonPrincipal

This is 100% plantation species and qualifies under Green Peace Australia’s Good Wood Guide validating WildOak as 75% renewable.

For the precious wood that is used for the face we take every care that only legally sourced timber is purchased. Therefore, you may walk on your beautiful floor with absolute confidence that you have made the right choice for you, your family and the environment.

FRENCH FOREST

WildOak logs are selected from Tronçais (a French National forest), grown in the Allier region in deep rich loamy soils. These excellent growing conditions produce very rapid growth with minimal lateral expansion resulting in an extremely tight grain.

Harvesting French Oak from these regions is vital to ensure a high tannin content that is contained in the wood. This makes French Oak the best timber for ageing, fuming and applying the latest reactive stains as they react with the tannin producing amazing unique colours that simple stains cannot achieve.

SUPERIOR MANUFACTURE

Just like the quality of the raw material being so important, so too is the manufacturing process. Only a handful of manufacturers around the world appreciate French Oak harvested from its correct origin so they are able to manufacture market leading flooring products.

This is why ArrowSun has partnered with our Malaysian supplier (Indonesian Factory). Our synergy is synonymous with quality and we embrace the same vision believing we can claim 100% customer satisfaction in WildOak flooring. Twelve months was invested working closely with their R&D team creating a stunning designer floor.

FRENCH QUALITY OAK

There are a few distinct qualities that set French Oak apart from oak sourced out of Eastern Europe, China and America.

One inherent difference is that the tannin content is much higher in French Oak than all other oak. Tannin (from the German word Tanna or Tannenbaum meaning fir tree) is a substance made from the polyphenolic compounds that are found in the wood. The high content of tannin means that our reactive stain technology is far more effective in achieving a subtle reaction with the wood resulting in different tones and colours that cannot be found in other oak.

French Oak Superiority over Eastern European Oak, American White Oak and Chinese Honey Oak:

•Highertannincontentforreactivestainsfumingandageing. •Tightergrainstructureproducingamoredensetimber suitable for flooring. •MorestablerawmaterialsuitableforAustralia's harsh climate.

Hevea Brasiliensis commonly known as Rubberwood is a plantation species that yields natural latex during the harvestable lifespan. At approximately 25 to 30 years old the trees have reached an age where natural latex yield is no longer adequate and the trees can now be used as the core for our WildOak.

Three layer engineered floors are much stronger than other types of core construction. WildOak hardwood core produces a heavier product which is ideal for installation and creating a solid feel underfoot when walked on. WildOak hardwood core's greatest advantage is its dimen- sional stability to moisture ingress (moisture up take) delivering a more dimensionally stable floor when it is exposed to greater variations in humidity levels.

Hevea is rated 'GREEN' as one of the top choices recommended in the 'Goodwood Guide' by Greenpeace Australia Pacific.

Hevea Brasiliensis is a hardwood with similar density and characteristics to Oak. This is the perfect hardwood for WildOak’s core. It is a generally known fact that a Hevea core in 3 layer-engineered floors is stronger than other species used in the market.

We take great pride in the fact that the majority of our 3 Layer Engineered Flooring composition encompasses the usage of renewable timber resources. 75% of each plank com-position is made up of plantation species and 25% is from precious timber veneers. Therefore, we proudly introduce to you an environmentally safe and beautiful product.

VÄLINGE 5Gc LOCKING SYSTEM

www.wildoakfloors.com.au

WildOak features a new 5Gc locking system that's easier to install

Strong and robust locking is ensured by an optimised profile and a glass fibre reinforced tongue on the short side of the board.

Considerable time saving can be achieved when installing flooring equipped with 5Gc Fold Down in comparison with traditional locking systems such as tongue & groove.

When a board is folded down, a flexible plastic tongue is pushed into a tongue-groove. When it reaches its final position, the locking tongue snaps out into a wedge groove, emits a ”click” sound and locks the product vertically.

The advanced bristle tongue used in Välinge’s vertical snap systems (5Gc) consists of a rigid outer part and several flexible inner protrusions. It creates strong pretension locking and enables it to overcome production tolerances. The special design of the locking profile combined with the high performance glass fibre reinforced plastic tongue offers superior function during climate changes and forces applied to the floor.

5Gc locking system advantages

Easy and quick installation

Significantly reduced installation times

The joints will have greater strength over time

Can be used immediately

No messy glue needed

No nailing required

No creaking joints

WildOak’s vision is to provide its customers with the perfect surface. What you see is merely the tip of the iceberg of a skilful and technologically advanced process. However, it lies right at the end of ArrowSun’s value chain - our knowledge and partnerships with world leading suppliers.

To produce a quality, perfect finish we need to start with the material being applied to the raw board and there is only one company that we place our faith and reputation in: KLUMPP.

KLUMPP Coatings add true value to our flooring surface, with the development of high quality and innovative coating systems for timber flooring today.

Once again we deliver results focusing on providing a gain for the consumer by meeting stringent tests to achieve coatings which are friendly for you the customer and our environment.

KLUMPP technology and leadership lies in the use today of e.g. Hydro UV Primer or Anti-Scratch UV Finishing.

KLUMPP can confirm that their products are free of hazardous materials such as formaldehyde and heavy metals and meet the strict requirements of the EN71 Part 3.

WildOak flooring can stand proud to say that its vision was not just to produce aesthetically stunning floors but to excel in the health and safety of the end user through minimising any detrimental impacts in your home or office and the envi-ronment. So we started with Swedish producer Casco, today's global major supplier of adhesives for engineered flooring.

When developing adhesives, Casco’s charter is to create high bond strength while maintaining environmental friendliness to ensure the consumer’s security and health in the end product.

Today many regulating authorities are stepping up their measures to protect the consumers interests. Conscious manufacturers and resellers have a greater responsibility to meet or even exceed these regulations.

With respect to gluing practices, today's most basic requirement is the Chisel Test which is used for measuring delamination by chiselling. A more stringent norm are the American National Standards (ANSI) being a series of water-soaking and chamber drying cycles.

KLUMPP PRODUCTSHydro UV Primer and High Solid Primer, creates an out standing bond between the substrate and the coating layer.

• Anti-Abrasive Primers which bring about major improvements in abrasive strength.

• Anti-Scratch UV Finishing based on Nanotechnology, with outstanding properties counteracting surface scratches.

• Hydrophobing Agents that impregnate the lamella joints and ends of the panels offering optimal protection from water ingress.

• Bonding Adhesive for coating pre-finished UV parquet surfaces for repair work: and good adhesion from completely cured UV surfaces (even anti-scratch) without requiring sanding.

Next time you are choosing a new floor for your home choose ArrowSun our test results are your gains.

WildOak goes one step further; manufactured under the toughest International Standards being the Japanese Agricul-tural Standard, which is a multiple series of water-soaking and chamber drying cycles.

Other than exacting gluing standards, the global trend for ‘Green Products’ has also created much tougher limits in relation to consumer health, with the main focus being on formaldehyde emissions. The two most common standards for formaldehyde emissions are:

•Europeanchambertestwiththeupperallowablelimitbeing 0.1part per million (ppm)

• Japanesedesiccatortestwithanupperallowablelimit of 0.4mg of formaldehyde per litre of water.

WildOak has also completed a third test in Australia, being the Green Building Council of Australia Emissions test for Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC). The maximum limit for VOC is 0.5mg/m²/hr. WildOak achieved a result 33 times better than our Australian standard with a rate of 0.015mg/m²/hr.

Next time you are choosing a new floor for your home choose ArrowSun - our test results are your peace of mind.

WILDOAK ADVANTAGES

FEATURE ADVANTAGE

Superior Manufacturing

WildOak is constructed in one of two of the world’s leading, most technologically advanced facilities. Consistency in incredibly high standards of manufacturing parameters can only be ensured through the use and continued investment in R&D and technology. Leadership and vision come from the top of our organisation and is shared throughout our entire organisational structure including those on the production lines.

French OakOnly 100% French Oak from managed plantation forests with a chain of custody can provide the prerequisite of high density timber and tannin content to produce such amazing natural, deep colours. You can also be sure that WildOak is legally logged.

Core (Good Wood) Hevea Brasiliensis

The core is literally the backbone of your floor board. Greenpeace Australia rated Good Wood Hevea is used for our hardwood core - not only is our Hevea sourced from plantations, but the trees are initially used for other products and only felled for WildOak at the end of the 30 year productive cycle. Hevea has superior strength and stability - other products need up to 21mm thickness to achieve the same. If it’s not Hevea you simply won’t have a strong stable floor.

Hand Crafted Boards

Each and every single board of WildOak is hand crafted - no two boards will ever be the same. Our skilled artisans use a variety of techniques - hand scraping, tool marking, saw marking, nail marking, wire brushing - to achieve a floor that will be uniquely yours and yours alone. No one will have a floor just like your WildOak.

5Gc Välinge Clicking System

Välinge 5Gc Click patented locking system is superior to traditional T&G with life-long locking. However, 5Gc can be unclicked for repairs or replacement or even to re-use in another location. Installation time is 40% faster and mess is minimal. No other locking system has the technology and secure lock of the glass fibre reinforced tongue and locking profile. Be sure you get our Välinge 5Gc patented locking system.

Casco GlueCasco adhesives are world leaders and WildOak uses Casco specifically for its high bond strength and environ-mental friendliness. Your health is our priority so we use adhesives with proven low VOC emissions and proven high bond strength - keeping your floor together through all of life’s pressures.

KLUMPP Coatings

While WildOak’s colour tones and depths are unequalled, we want to preserve the beauty for years and years. KLUMPP coatings not only enhance WildOak’s natural beauty but give you a tough anti-scratch UV protective coating that is easy to clean. WildOak exclusively uses KLUMPP technology not only for durability and beauty but also for the health of our customers - KLUMPP is free of hazardous materials such as formaldehyde and heavy metals.

Proven Results

From initial design through to final installation, WildOak undergoes an exhaustive testing regime to give you peace of mind that we have done everything to provide a floor that is strong, durable, environmentally friendly and kind to your health. European, Japanese and Australian Testing Standards are all applied throughout WildOak’s journey from the forest to your floor.

Good to the Planet

Beginning with the managed plantation French Oak and then the managed plantation renewable Hevea hardwood core, WildOak’s entire creation is centred around being kind to our home - planet earth. WildOak’s non-hazardous super strong Casco bonding adhesives and beautiful, durable non-hazardous KLUMPP coatings almost complete the environmental story - but thanks to the Patented Välinge 5Gc Locking system you can even re-use or recycle WildOak. No illegal logging or child labour is used and neither are any hazardous chemicals or wasteful manufacture practices tolerated in any part of the WildOak creation process.

SURFACE TECHNIQUES

Distressed look

WildOak flooring comes with a range of surface treatments on the French Oak lamella ranging from Tool Marks to Staining with Alkaline reactive stains and providing different surface coatings - UV Robust Lacquer & Super Extreme Matt Oils.

WildOak staining is done with simple stains on some of its range through to very complex reactive stains which react with the tannins in the French Oak. This new and wonderful process requires a process that can only be done by hand which will require up to 3 stain applications per board. The outcome is a 3 dimension depth in colour where different types of light changes the colour of your floor giving every floor by WildOak a unique look in every home.

Different surface coatings are used to produce our specific colour bank, therefore different stains require different coatings to create the designer colours of WildOak flooring.

QUARTER SAWN ADVANTAGES

www.wildoakfloors.com.au

- 26 -

WILDOAK QUARTER SAWN

Quarter sawn French Oak is chosen for its durability as well as its elegant appearance.

One very import process in converting a log into boards is the process that is used at the mill. When timber is cut from a log, it is typically cut in one of three ways: quarter sawn, rift sawn or plain sawn. Each type of timber is dependent on how the log is rotated and cut at the sawmill, the result becomes visualised in the direction of the growth rings on the end grain of the board and is what defines the type of timber. Different types of cuts produce a different figure in the face of the board and the mechanical properties of each board are then determined.

This is a very important process for ArrowSun because quarter sawn boards are what makes WildOak flooring very attractive in appearance and stable.

Timber is Hydgroscopic in nature which means it will absorb and shed moisture through the entirety of its life. The process can result in the floor expanding or contracting, this is why we choose to use quarter sawn material due to its greater stability in WildOak.

Quarter sawing is a more expensive and intensive process where the growth rings intersect the face of the board at 60 to 90 degree angle.

All hardwoods cut this way score a higher result on the Janka hardness scale, which is a measure of the woods species resistant to dinting and wear.

As a result, an architect or designer can be assured of the extended surface life using quarter sawn timber.

Quarter cut logs, provide a higher dimensionally stable board.

FRENCH OAK SUSTAINABIL ITY

In the year 1291, the king of France “Philippe le Bel” created the “Administration des Eaux et Forets” (Administration of Waters and Forests), an institution that survived every hardship of French history until 1966, when it was replaced by the ONF (Office National des Forêts - National Forestry Office).

Though the first French forestry code was written in 1346, modern day management really started under Louis the XIV’s Prime Minister Jean Baptiste Colbert who, between 1661 and 1669 restructured all royal domain forests.

In the 17th century sustainability was not such a popular topic. Readily available timber for the purpose of building warships was rather the matter, and unlike England tapping freely into Tasmanian Huon pines for towering masts, France had to rely on local supply, therefore planning and management was the way to go.

- 30 -

Presently 50% of commercial French oak comes from ONF managed national or local community forests, a mere 12 million hectares out of the whole 17 million hectares of forests representing 30% of the French territory.

The oaks selected by ArrowSun for the WildOak range originate only from the most beautiful and sustainable forests of France.

Though there is no such thing as a 200 year old sustainably managed forest in Australia, in France sustainably managed forests can be dated back to well before the 16th Century.
