Grand Knight Letter September 2015
What is a Knight of Columbus Council 4731 mentor?
Mentoring is a process of accompaniment and sharing of experience. Mentoring is the foundation method
that our council uses to assist our membership to become actively involved. A mentor is more than imply a disseminator of information.
The role of a Knight of Columbus Council 4731 mentor should:
• Act as a counselor in decision making.
• Act as a role model.
• Act as a sounding board.
• Become the champion of the mentee or trainee.
• Facilitate development through guidance and advice.
• Help to develop the individual’s self-confidence, which is a prerequisite for growth.
• Provide for two-way communication.
• Share and reinforce Knight of Columbus values.
• Share effective and efficient techniques.
• Share knowledge and understanding. Share technical expertise. A Knight of Columbus Council 4731 mentor’s attributes must:
• Be able to delegate.
• Be able to give constructive feedback.
• Be able to help others to put learning into practice.
• Be able to provide structures and procedures to support the process.
• Be able to solve problems effectively and objectively.
• Be able to talk to people about their goals.
• Be an effective communicator – both verbal and written.
• Be flexible in their approach.
• Be open to receiving feedback from other council members.
• Be open to sharing of feelings and ideas.
• Believe in the ability of other council members.
• Display the integrity required to generate trust.
• Handle conflicts constructively. Show empathy and understanding.

SK Andrew Puka passed away April 19, 2015. He had no family members to help me choose where the Chalice would be placed. I was aware that Scott Bliss' Church in Brazil was in need of a gold Chalice. Scott Bliss is a third degree Knight of Co-lumbus webmaster of North Olmsted, Ohio Council 4731. As the Sentinel of the Chalice of the Bishop O'Reilly Assembly, I sent the Chalice pictured below to Scott Bliss to donate to his Parish Church. It is very important that these Chalices of deceased Sir Knights are used in the celebration of the Mass and not sitting on someone's fireplace as a souvenir.
The process of getting the Chalice from North Olmsted to Brazil is a story unto itself. Ray Metsch
Father Isidor Munishi AJ celebrates his 25th anni-versary with Bishop Roger Gries at the Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church in Bedford Ohio.
