As you all know by now, Jim Beesley has resigned as President of the Solos Club. Let’s give Sue Bawcom, our new President all of our support to make the remainder of the year a terrific one. We wish Jim well and thank him for his service to the club.

NOTICE: Since the editor will be on vacation until the end of August, this issue contains information for both August and September. There will be a regular newsletter in October.

... that’s not all of your Solos Board Changes As per Solos Club By-laws, Article III, Section E- Vacancies and Recall of Officers: “In the event that the office of President becomes vacant, the Vice President shall succeed to the position. In the event that any other office becomes vacant, the President shall fill the vacancy by appointment from among the Membership, subject to approval by a majority of the Officers.” The Solos Board has unanimously approved, and is pleased to announce the following replacements:

Vice President – Jack Mercer

Secretary – Kat Wilson Membership Chair – Gina Mercer

If You Need a Ticket or Can’t Attend an Event If you missed getting a ticket to any sold-out Solos Event, please contact Sue Bawcom at [email protected] to get on a waitlist. On the flip-side, if you have a ticket, and find you can’t attend, please let Sue know so she can give you a list of people to contact that are on the waitlist. Also, if you sell or buy a ticket on your own, please advise Sue so the names can be corrected on the check-in-list - preferably at least 2 to 3 days before the event. ~Sue Bawcom [email protected] 2018 VP and Ticket Broker

Coming Attraction in September!!

The Lone Star Swing Syndicate will provide the after dinner entertainment. The dance floor will definitely be open for this popular swing band. (You may remember them from our USO Show last year.) Tickets will go on sale later in August. Mark your calendar now and watch your email for the flyer. ~ Ruth Bailey [email protected]

Let's Fiesta!

On September 19th, Solos will experience a 'South of the Border' treat! Our Fiesta will start in the ballroom with our usual beverages, followed by a Fajita dinner with Sopaipillas for dessert. Delizioso!

A special treat during the dinner hour will be the Luis Medrano Mariachi Band. Did you know that Mariachi dates back to at least the 18th century? Enjoy their authentic Mexican musica.

Coming Attraction in October!!

Time to Tailgate! On October 12th, Legacy Hills Pavilion will be the site for Solos' Tailgate Party! Imagine you're tailgating before the big game featuring your favorite team. Wear your team's colors & get into the spirit! The weather should be perfect for a menu of Burgers & Brats with all the trimmings, Corn on the Cob, and Lemon Bars for dessert. Iced tea and water will be provided. Bring any other liquid refreshments you may want to have. Once you hear the live music of the Kountry Kombo, you're going to want to get on your feet & dance the night away! Tickets will go on sale mid-September. A flyer will be emailed. There is a 200 ticket limit in the Pavilion, so get yours early!

How to Join a Special Interest Group

To make sure you get e-mails from Interest Groups that you want to join, simply follow these steps:

ü Log onto the Main Sun City Webpage (www.sctexas.org) ü Click on My Memberships ü There’s a list of all of the Solos Club Interest Groups. Click in the check box

beside each one you’re interested in.

That’s it!! Be aware that some of the Interest Groups do not send out many e-mails so you may not get any at first. Be Patient!! If any come out, you will get it.

What’s Happenin’ on Thirsty Thursday On August 4, we will be joining forces with the Vice President’s event in the Ballroom for a Joint Venture Potluck. See page 2 of this newsletter for detailed information. The next Thirsty Thursday Happy Hour will be on August 23rd in the Florence/Georgetown Rooms, Cowan Creek. For September, we will have Thirsty Thursday on the 13th in the Florence/Georgetown Rooms, Cowan Creek. There will also be special Thirsty Thursday on September 27th at the Cowan Creek Pavilion. More details to follow about that will be coming out later.

Special Interest Group Activities

The Chain Gang

On August 14 we will go to Becks, which is located at 19024 Heatherwilde Blvd., in Pflugerville. We will try food from a chain restaurant that is new to Central Texas. They say they are on The Finer Side of Fast. We get to be the judge! Becks adjoins the new furniture store in the area called Living Spaces and is just down the road from the new Costco on 130 that opened July 26.

We are going early in August because Pam will be out of pocket later in the month. Sign up on our Calendar for The Chain Gang which is on the Solos web site. Find it under Interest Groups.

Line Dancing Tired of standing in lines? Have you tried dancing in lines? Summer is here and the Solo’s Line Dancers are back. Every Tuesday in the Walberg/Jarrell room at Cowan Creek.
