Following the last nine successful ICCG conferences, the 10th ICCG will take place on June 22 – 26, 2014 in Dresden, Germany. The focus of this conference is to bring together participants from science and industry who are globally active in the field of large-area coatings on glass and plastics. In addition to contributors from universities and research institutes, the conference addresses coating manufacturers, materials and equipment suppliers as well as key enduser industries. The focus of this conference furthermore are applications of functional coatings for high volume products that can be applied on glass and plastic materials. The ICCG was founded in 1994 and focused on applications for glass substrates only. Nowadays, our scope is broadened to include the coatings on glass, plastics or flexible materials which have all become extremely important for large area and/or high-volume markets. The conference structure remains similar to that of the previous conferences: Scientists, technologists, experts, and managers will have ample opportunity to discuss the latest trends in the field of research and applications of coatings on glass and plastics. Prior to the conference, on Sunday afternoon, six educational Short Courses will be given by experts in the field to provide fundamental and technological background in specific conference topics. In the morning on the first day of the conference an introductory session will provide market and business information and specify future technological requirements. As in the previous conferences, the 10th ICCG highlights the most important Depositiontechnologies during the first three technical sessions, considering PVD, CVD and Wet Processes. This will be followed by two sessions dedicated to Processing: Session 4 high-lights Pre- and Post-Treatment of flexible glass and polymers. Session 5 deals with Fun-damentals of Film Growth and related process-control features. The final three sessions are dedicated to surveying the most important Applications for thin film coated glass and plastics including energy features, precision optics and challenging high performan-ce coatings for displays or lighting. This conference will also provide information about the different technologies at a general level suitable for new product designers, as well as providing the technical key aspects, including safety measures, and environmental and economic consequences. There will be also a lively panel discussion on Wednesday covering the state of the art in Transparent and Barrier Coatings and the new directions imposed by this market. Finally, complementing our interesting technological and scientific program, there will be an extended and important industrial exhibition with many of the key vendors for these markets directly next to the conference floor. We are confident that the conference site in Dresden will offer you great opportunities for networking offering chances to interact with many of the dedicated experts from the coating and equipment industry, as well the various Fraunhofer institutes and academia. A guided ICCG10 tour on Friday will offer you access to a group of companies and insti-tutes of a wide range of interests. Come to ICCG10 and meet the international glass and plastic coatings community. We look forward to seeing you in Dresden!

Social Events and Receptions

Posters will be on display from Monday to Wednesday.

300 Years of MEISSEN® – 300 Years of Heritage and Innovation Porcelain, or “white gold”, has been fascinating us for centuries.

The import of East Asian porcelain in the 16th century caused a frenzy of enthusiasm all over Europe. Augustus the Strong (1670 – 1733), elector of Saxony, even admitted that he was suffe-ring from the “maladie de porcellaine.” And he was not the only one who had fallen victim to the addiction to the most delicate porcelain. All over Europe, attempts were made to uncover the secret of its production.Dr. Peter Braun, head of the department historic collections, will be talking about the success of Meissen Porcelain®.

Soft drinks, beer and wine as well as snacks will be served during Welcome Reception, Poster Session, Industrial Evening and Dresden Night.

It is also our pleasure to invite you to a special event during the conference. In the beautiful ambience of the Erlwein Capitol in Dresden, we shall stage an international barbeque dinner mixed with magical moments, finest clubsounds, and excellent conversa-tion. Meet interesting people from within and outside the industry from all over the world in a relaxing and amusing atmosphere – that is what we call a conference dinner.

Far away from the busy city of Dresden you will meet wild canyons, romantic hiking paths and a large variety of rocks and mountains offering unforgettable views on a spectacular countryside. We are starting with a guided tour of the fortress »Königstein«. The Königstein fortification is a unique witness of European for-tress constructions. During the guided tour you will discover the history from late Gothic to the 19th century architecture serving as a prisoners camp and military fortress until 1955.

Afterwards you will enjoy a scenic drive through the Saxon Swit-zerland to the »Bastei«. Enjoy this scenic point – looking around from the former bastion and the monumental bridge of Saxon sandstone. During your stay at the Bastei you will be served coffee and cake inside the restaurant overlooking the Elbe river and the panorama of the Saxon Switzerland. On the way back to Dresden we will pass by the former wine villages of Wachwitz and Lo-schwitz and you get to know the city of Dresden as a city of high tech and baroque, also passing by the Transparent Manufacture of the Volkswagen company. We will arrive in Dresden at 19:00.

Dresden Night MESSE DRESDEN

300 Years of MEISSEN® – 300 Years of Heritage and Innovation Porcelain, or “white gold”, has been fascinating us for centuries.

The import of East Asian porcelain in the 16th century caused a frenzy of enthusiasm all over Europe. Augustus the Strong (1670 – 1733), elector of Saxony, even admitted that he was suffe-ring from the “maladie de porcellaine.” And he was not the only one who had fallen victim to the addiction to the most delicate porcelain. All over Europe, attempts were made to uncover the secret of its production.

Dr. Peter Braun, head of the department historic collections, will be talking about the success of Meissen Porcelain®.

Excellent barrier properties for thin film devices are an inevita-ble feature for many different applications. The functionalities of displays, flexible electronic devices or packaging are seriously affected by water vapor transmission rates or other species pe-netrating flexible substrates. This panel discussion will highlight such considerations with respect to improved barrier performance by choosing appropriate flexible substrates, including the choice between thinner glass vs. polymer films. Distinguished Internatio-nal Panelists will be continuing the discussions of topics raised and presented in Session 4.

Getting to the Conference

Location of the Conference

The quickest way to get to the capital city of Saxony from many different places, whether for business or pleasure, is by plane. There are excellent non-stop flights between Dresden and airports in Germany, Switzerland, the UK and Russia. Dresden is accessible from all four corners of the world via the main hub airports. Dresden Airport is approximately 9 km north of the city centre.

Dresden is an important railway junction and an integral part of the ICE and EC / IC networks. There are several services daily to all major German cities. Direct international connections include services to Aarhus, Budapest, Bratislava, Prague, Vienna and Zurich. We recommend using the tram line 10 (tram station: MESSE DRESDEN - HALLE 1).

Dresden can be reached directly on three motorways. The A 4 approaches the city from the West (Cologne-Eisenach-Chemnitz), and the A 13 from the North (Rostock-Berlin). The A 17 links the Saxon capital with Prague.

The convention center of MESSE DRESDEN is a location of trade for knowledge exchange, information and get together. As a part of the exhibition center the new building has received the individual name BÖRSE DRESDEN. The name of the building reminds of its original use hundred years ago.

As from now, congresses up to a size of 10,000 participants can be realized in the future. In particular, huge and international congresses and conventions, which can be combined with fairs in the exhibition halls, take place at BÖRSE DRESDEN.
