THE 121ST GRAND AMERICAN and AIM NATIONAL YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIPS PROGRAM

There is no one more disappointed than the ATA management and staff that the Grand will not be in Sparta this year. We look forward to returning to our home in Sparta in 2021.

It has been our practice for many years to have the Grand program in your hands by June 1. Due to the unusual circumstances this year we created two separate drafts of the program, one for Sparta, and one for Missouri. When Missouri became the location, we continued the effort to complete that program, send it to the printer, and posted it on www.shootata.com. Due to the unavoidable delay in releasing the program to the printer, you may receive the program after pre-squadding opens on July 8 at 7:00 pm.

With 60 trap fields, the Missouri facility has the second largest trap line and shooter capacity in the nation, however it is approximately half that of the World Shooting Complex at 121 fields.

If you plan to attend the Grand, it is highly recommended that you pre-squad. This will aid shoot management in planning the shoot, accessing the need to make any attendance related decisions, and hopefully avoid disappointments to our members. As stated in the program, any positions unpaid on the first event of any day, 30 minutes in advance of that event, may result in all positions for that shooter for that day being forfeited. Also, drinking water may not be available on the trap line due to health restrictions. Please be prepared to furnish your own drinking water.

The Grand American management team will be managing the Grand American at Missouri. You will see many of the individuals who you have come to know at Sparta for many years.

We are grateful to the Missouri Trapshooters Association officials and staff for welcoming us to their facility to host the Grand American. They have gone to extreme lengths to accommodate our every need and request possible. This event will likely stress the maximum limits of their facility; however, they are making all efforts to accommodate as many ATA members as possible. Please thank them when you have the opportunity.

This tournament will also be a tremendous challenge to the ATA staff. There are many amenities in Sparta that are not available in Missouri, so some inventive improvisation has become necessary. We will be grateful to you for your patience and understanding as we address these challenges and add another page to the trapshooting record book.

Welcome Shooters,

On behalf of the Executive Committee, I want to welcome everyone to the greatest shooting event on Earth. As I write this, we are gripped in the uncertainty and threat of the COVID 19 pandemic. I hope by the time you read this, the pandemic is over and we’re able to return to our normal lives.

Through it all, I’m more proud than ever to be a part of this incredible family. I want to personally thank the ATA Staff, Central Handicap Committee and the members of the Executive Committee for their hard work, support and dedication through this unprecedented and challenging time.

I also want to thank our delegates, state officials and gun clubs for their stalwart dedication to the game we all love. Most of all, I want thank our members for their patience and loyalty. All of us have endured unbelievable challenges over the past few months. As we emerge from the COVID 19 pandemic, we all will have a renewed appreciation for our families and friends.

I encourage you to leave the uncertainty of the past months behind and celebrate by getting together in Linn Creek, MO. Let’s take the opportunity to reacquaint ourselves with old friends and meet a few new ones. There will be plenty of targets, intense competition, lots of activities and a chance to make memories that will stay with us for years to come.

Before operating a golf car/ATV on the grounds, you must obtain a permit from Membership Services, which will be available at no cost. predecessor with a handful of improvements for the

sport of singles trap. It is a dedicated singles gun, with a

correspondingly shorter action. With available barrel lengths of

30”, 32” and 34”, all are ported and have a wide beavertail forend, high

rib and a small white mid-bead with a large white front bead.

Built for high round counts, it also features drop-in locking blocks

and replaceable hinge pins.

ALL-AMERICAN SINGLE TRAP

1) The Clubhouse will open on Tuesday, August 4 at 10 A.M. and will be open one hour prior to shooting time to 5 P.M. each day thereafter, unless posted otherwise. Before being classified/handicapped, you must have an ATA plastic card and average card. Participants with a broken or worn plastic card can get a replacement by presenting positive ID and their current plastic card, otherwise there will be a $1.00 service charge per card. Replacement cards are available at the Member Services counter.

2) Your Handicap yardage and Singles/Doubles classification will be determined by the Central Handicap Committee (CHC) at the Classification trailer. Also, any category declaration, including chair shooter, must be made at this time. Junior-Gold, Juniors and Sub-Juniors, please refer to #11 for rules regarding reduced rate entries.

3) All participants must be handicapped/classified prior to making their first entry as this is how classification and Handicap yardage are noted for entries throughout the tournament. The cashier will not be able to process your entry prior to classification. Shooters must have their plastic ATA card with them when they are squadded and cashiered.

4) If you draw squad positions that will not be used for an event, please see squadding personnel or use the self-service kiosk in the Clubhouse immediately to release your position. Releasing your position allows us to fill the squad, making this tournament more enjoyable for the other shooters who signed up in the squad. A shooter may not draw more than one (1) position per event.

5) In an effort to avoid unused positions, it is imperative that you either cashier or release all positions that you have squadded for, prior to the event. Anyone that does not cashier or release positions that have been squadded in their name will risk having any or all subsequent squadded positions in their name released by management.

6) Please have your ATA plastic card with you. Event entry will not be allowed without it. 7) You will directly input your entries, including options, at the cashiering windows using a touch screen system.

Upon paying your entry fees, you will be supplied with a receipt showing your squad and position along with your class/yardage, options, and any applicable categories for each event entered. After initial entry, you may return to cashiering and add options prior to the start of an event. Options may not be removed from an entry at anytime.You are not considered entered in an event until your entry for that event is paid. It is solely the responsibility of the shooter to ensure payment has been made prior to shooting an event. Failure to pay prior to shooting will result in disqualification of that score.

Also, review your squad and post assignment by event to ensure that you are shooting in your squadded position. Failure to shoot in your squadded position could result in disqualification.

8) You may use credit or debit cards to pay for entry fees and MTA fees. MasterCard, Visa, Discover, and Debit cards will be accepted. However, payment for options must be made with cash or check.

9) No counter checks or second-party checks will be accepted by the cashier. Checks will be accepted for the amount of shooting fees only. Shooters presenting checks which are returned or dishonored for non-sufficient funds or any other reason will be charged a $25 fee.

10) All entries and ATA purchases must be made in U.S. funds only. NO EXCEPTIONS11) Any Sub-Junior, Junior, or Junior-Gold who enters any Grand American event, by paying the reduced rate

of $26.00 per 100 targets for target entry, must enter on the same basis in all events for the rest of the tournament. By selecting the reduced rate option, shooters are ineligible to participate in any purse, option (including the Grand Gun Option) or added money for any event. HOWEVER, reduced rate entry shooters are still eligible to win any trophy in that event. Once entry is made at the reduced rate, no shooter will be reclassified at full price. Likewise, any shooter who enters an event at full price will not be reclassified to the reduced rate option. It is the responsibility of each competitor, who may be eligible for this reduced rate, to make a declaration at the time of classification. No reclassification will occur after the competitor enters an event.

12) No Refunds unless event is cancelled. NO EXCEPTIONS.

RE-SQUAD PENALTY/MAKE-UPS: A squad will be held up to three minutes for a tardy shooter. If the tardy shooter does not appear within three minutes, the squad must begin the event without that shooter. Any shooter missing his/her squad or changing squads for any reason other than earned yardage in any event who desires to re-enter shall pay a $25 penalty. No shooter will be allowed to make up more than 50 targets on the make-up traps if he or she has missed a squad. If you are unable to join your squad before they have started their third sub-event, you must be re-squadded and pay the $25 re-squad fee. All make-ups for either missed squads or gun repairs report to the practice trap office within 30 minutes of when your squad finishes that event. All make-ups must be completed by the end of the event.

ENTRY PROCEDURE


Shooters are expected to have both their Singles average and Doubles average computed on the targets they have shot in the current year. The following system will be used, whereby shooters will be classified on known ability and their official Singles and Doubles averages.

RULES AND REGULATIONSCATEGORY SHOOTERS: All special categories, including chair shooter, must be declared at all tournaments where All-American points will be awarded. Such declaration MUST be made at the time of classification. Without such declaration a contestant will not be allowed to compete for the applicable category trophy. Note: all special category shooters that will compete in the Champion of Champions race (Event #18) MUST DECLARE for that category at the time of classification. No contestant will be allowed to declare or change a special category declaration after firing his/her first shot. The only exception to this rule will be to correct an ATA classification error. (See Rule IV.K.). The CHC will be solely responsible for identifying and correcting any classification error at this tournament.

In any event, shooters may declare only one special category (i.e. Lady 1, Lady 2, Sub-Junior, Junior, Junior-Gold, Sub-Veteran, Veteran or Senior Veteran). Note: Chair shooters are exempt from this rule and may compete as both the chair and another special category. All special category shooters who are tied for event champion may shootoff/carry-over for the championship trophy only. If a shooter fails in the championship trophy shootoff/carry-over, and has declared a special category, the shooter will fall back to the declared category (See Rule X. D. 3.). Any shooter who has declared a special category and whose score qualifies for any trophy in his/her declared category will compete for the category trophy only, and not for place, class or yardage group. Any special category shooter whose score does not qualify for a trophy in his/her category may compete for place, class or yardage group trophies (See Rule X.D.5).

A shooter’s handicap yardage may be increased at anytime during the year, including immediately before and during the Grand American World Trapshooting Championships: at the discretion of the Central Handicap Committee, or voting members of the Executive Committee (See Rule VI, F., 3.,c). Failure to shoot from the correct Handicap yardage will result in score disqualification. It is the responsibility of all shooters to verify that they have been classified at the correct Handicap yardage. This includes ALL earned yardage from any prior registered tournament (See Rule XII.B.1.e). Also, any shooter that has ever registered targets in another shooting organization must inform classification BEFORE their Handicap yardage has been determined. These shooters will be required to shoot from the greatest documented yardage (See Rule VI.C.4). All trophies or monies won for a disqualified score must be returned (See Rule XII.B.7). Any yardage earned for a disqualified score will be added to the shooter’s average card (See Rule XII.B.8).

PLEASE NOTE: THE TARGET REQUIREMENTS DESCRIBED BELOW REFLECT ADDITIONAL TIME GRANTED TO MEET THE 2020 GRAND AMERICAN MINIMUM TARGET REQUIREMENTS. THIS IS MADE NECESSARY BY THE EFFECT THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC HAS HAD ON THE ABILITY OF MEMBER CLUBS TO THROW REGISTERED TARGETS. THIS ADDITIONAL TIME WILL BE GRANTED FOR THE 2020 GRAND AMERICAN ONLY. 1) Shooters who do not have a total of 1000 Singles targets registered in the current, and previous target year,

beginning September 1, 2018 and not later than the last day of preliminary week of the current Grand American Championships, will be advanced (1) class or more at the discretion of the CHC. Shooters may use any targets registered during preliminary week to meet the Grand American qualifications (See Item #5 next page).

2) No participant shall be classified to shoot Handicap events at less than 25 yards unless they have a minimum of 1000 registered Handicap targets in the current, and previous target year, beginning September 1, 2018. Shooters may use any preliminary week targets to meet the minimum handicap target requirement (see item #5 on next page). However, participants who fail to meet the Grand American Handicap qualification, as described above, shall have the choice of shooting targets only from their assigned ATA yardage provided they waive and forfeit all rights to ATA trophies, options (including Grand Gun Option, purses, and added money. (See Special Purses, Options, and Awards)

CLASSIFICATION


MONEY DIVISION: Added money, purses and options are calculated using a variety of money pay-off systems. Our objective—through the use of percentage system, class purses, Lewis Class, yardage groups, and high-gun system—is to provide something that each participant desires. 1) I.R.S. regulations require a Social Security number before accumulated event winnings checks of over

$600 can be distributed. If you anticipate receiving option checks through the mail, it will be necessary to report your Social Security number. You can directly input your SSN at the self-service kiosk.

2) Each shooter who is entitled to receive money won during any event agrees that if such money is not received by him/her during the period of the Grand American Tournament, a payment for the money won may be mailed to the address indicated by ATA records and, when so mailed, the ATA will not be liable in any manner whatsoever for any check lost, stolen, unclaimed, undelivered or otherwise not received by the shooter.

3) After initial entry, you may return to cashiering and add options prior to the start of an event. Options may not be removed from an entry at anytime.

4) SCORES ARE FINAL FOR PURSE AND OPTION CALCULATIONS two (2) hours after the event is completed for all events. SCORES ARE EASILY VERIFIED THROUGH THE USE OF COMPUTER TERMINALS LOCATED IN THE SCORE SHEET ANNEX AND EVENTS CENTER. AN ATA PLASTIC CARD IS REQUIRED FOR ACCESS.

GRAND GUN OPTION: A special option will be offered in Events 10-15-16-17-19-20-21-22-23-24. All persons entering these events can play a $15 option. Winners will receive a new rifle or shotgun. All winners will be drawn at random and names will be posted at the Membership Services on the following day. Winners need to visit the Membership Services to provide verification so that they can pick up their prizes. Guns will be distributed in strict accordance with all state and federal firearms laws. Please check with Membership Services for more details. The option is in no way considered a donation.

FIFTY TARGETS PER SUB-EVENT: All Grand American events will be shot on two (2) trap fields. Handicap and Singles will be (5) targets per post unless attendance requires (10) targets per post. All Grand American Doubles will be (5) pair per post. The entire trap line will consist of 28 banks with each bank consisting of two (2) field banks. White Flyer Orange Dome Pitch Targets will be used for all events.

3) Handicap target requirements will be waived for shooters age 70 and over, making them eligible for trophies and monies (See Rule XI, A.).

4) Shooters who do not have a total of 1000 Doubles targets registered in the current, and previous target year, beginning September 1, 2018 and not later than the last day of preliminary week of the current Grand American Championships, will be advanced (1) class or more at the discretion of the CHC. Shooters may use any targets registered during preliminary week to meet the Grand American qualifications (see Item #5 below).

5) All targets shot during the Preliminary week, from Wednesday, August 5, through Sunday, August 9, may be applied toward meeting the above target requirements. Once the target requirement is met, please return to the Classification trailer if you wish to be reclassified. ANY RECLASSIFICATION MUST BE MADE THE NEXT DAY BEFORE YOU ENTER THE NEXT EVENT.

6) Shooters winning or tying for high in class in any Singles or Doubles event during the Preliminary Grand Week (August 5-9) will be subject to review and may be advanced at the discretion of the CHC for subsequent like events for the remainder of the tournament. Shooters winning or tying for high in class in any Singles or Doubles event during Grand Week (August 10-15) will automatically be advanced at least one class for subsequent like events. In all events that include class advances, all shooters (regardless of category) with scores that equal or exceed the score of the class champion will be advanced starting with the next like event. Any shooter earning yardage in any Handicap event shall report to the Classification trailer to have their average card punched to denote their yardage earned. Any shooter whose class or yardage is changed for any reason shall be considered to be notified when the new class or yardage is posted on the Score Sheet Annex bulletin boards located next to Squadding.

7) Any shooter failing to follow Item #6 above will be subject to disqualification and will be ineligible for any trophy and/or money.

8) Members of foreign shooting associations must show their current “home” classification cards. Down-the-line averages will be classed the same as ATA Singles, non-ATA Doubles the same as ATA Doubles, at the discretion of the Handicap Committee.

PRACTICE TRAPS: The practice traps are located between banks 16-17 (4 traps). Practice traps will open one hour prior to the first event of the day. Practice tickets are only available at the cashier window at the Practice Building, West of Vendor Mall. Practice Rounds: 25 bird practice - $6.50 and 12 pair Doubles - $6.50.

MAKE UPS: All make-ups will report to the practice area. All make-ups must be completed by the end of the event. No shooter will be allowed to make up more than 50 targets on the make up traps if he or she has missed a squad.

FIRST AID: First Aid is located at the Clubhouse.

CATEGORY SHOOTERS: It is the responsibility of Lady 1, Lady 2, Sub-Junior, Junior, Junior Gold, Sub-Veteran, Veterans, Senior Veteran, and Chair shooters to see that they are so marked at the time they are classified/handicapped. If your special category does not appear on the bulletin sheet, report the omission at the Classification trailer.

Shell House closes at 6 P.M.Grand American shootoffs will begin immediately following the last event of each day. All shooters

should be ready to shoot at that time. All Handicap shootoffs will be held on the day the event is completed and as close to the end of the last event of the day as possible. All Singles and Doubles ties will be carried over until the last respective event of the tournament, with the exception of Event 17. Ties from 17, the Wenig Class Doubles, will carry over to Event 22, the ATA Doubles Championship presented by Federal Premium. Ties for the Preliminary High-All-Around, the High-Over-All 900 and the High-Over-All 1,400 will carry over by combining the results of the 50s of Events 15, 16 & 17. Remaining ties will be determined by reverse long run, Event 17 and if necessary, Event 16 and then Event 15.

Contestants will be called over the P.A. to report for check-in, which is located at Membership Services. Shooters will be assigned to a specific field after they check in and have been squadded. It is the shooter’s responsibility to promptly report to the assigned field ready to shoot. Those shooters who have not reported by third call or are not at their assigned field when called will be disqualified from the shootoffs.

Leaders-to-date listings are displayed on video monitors in the Clubhouse and throughout the grounds to allow shooters to track potential shootoffs. Shooters are advised to note where special category shooters may have the high score/tie in class and in special category. It is possible that a score lower than what is broadcast on video display terminals may be involved in a shootoff.

Shootoffs for Singles events that have reached the 200-target maximum for the event may be shot off the following night beginning as soon as possible. Handicap shootoffs—Ties in Handicap events will be shot off the day the event is completed.

Shootoffs will be under the sole direction of the Shootoff Manager. All shootoff determinations and decisions including the order of the shootoffs will be made by the manager or his appointed immediate staff and will be final. An ATA Delegate, Alternate Delegate, or State Association Official will be assigned to referee at each shootoff field by the shootoff manager or his immediate office staff. Referees’ responsibilities will be to ensure compliance with ATA rules on their assigned field.

Shootoffs will be on a 25-target basis in Singles and Handicap events, ten (10) pair in Doubles. Participants involved in Singles shootoffs should be prepared to shoot at fifty (50) targets before re-squadding. Shootoff shells are available near the Pavilion after which a limited supply will be available near the shootoff fields. Shootoff target color will be Orange Dome until the shootoff manager determines the need to change to all White.

PRE-SQUADDING PROCEDURE

1) Pre-squadding will only be available through the ATA web site, www.shootata.com, by selecting the link on the home page titled “Grand American Pre-Squadding”.

2) In order to pre-squad, you will be required to furnish your ATA number and those of the shooters you wish to squad with you.

a. First, enter all the ATA numbers of those you wish to pre-squad. You don’t have to position them to their post preference in the list; however, it will make pre-squadding easier and faster if you do so. Clicking the lock icon will lock them so they will not move. Clicking it again will unlock it. Clicking the red “X” will remove them from the list. You can enter more than 5 ATA numbers and move them around in the list as desired.

b. Select an event to view that event’s squad matrix.

c. Select a squad that you would like to pre-squad on.

d. Move the ATA number(s) to the selected squad by clicking the appropriate arrow or the “Squad All” button to move them to their appropriate post(s).

e. Click the Reserve button to reserve that squad for that event.

f. Repeat for each event you want to pre-squad for.

g. When finished pre-squadding for all events, click the Checkout button.

3) In the case of yardage differential on Handicap events, you will be able to squad your list of shooters on individual squads. Only move the ATA numbers to their posts for those whose yardage meets the ATA’s yardage differential on a squad. Handicap squadding will be done in strict accordance to the ATA rules.

4) You can find where your friends are squadded by selecting the “Find where a shooter is squadded” link on the top, right of the page.

5) A non-refundable service charge of $2 per post, per event is due at Checkout of the pre-squadding process. Your pre-squad posts will be opened back up if you exit without paying and will not be held.

6) You will receive a confirmation email after your payment has been processed, listing all your pre-squadded positions. You can unsquad a purchased reservation by selecting the “Unsquad Purchased Reservation” link on the bottom, left-hand side of the page. No refund will be given for those who unsquad their reservation.

7) Pre-squadding will open on July 8, 2020 at 7 P.M., Central Daylight Saving Time, and will close on July 26, at 7 P.M., CDST.

8) PRE-SQUADDED SHOOTERS – that do not pay for the first event of any day 30 minutes prior to the first event of the day risk having all pre-squadded positions for that day opened up.

1. You will enter your squadding preferences by using a touch screen system.

2. You MUST have your plastic card to squad. After swiping your ATA card, and the cards of others that you wish to squad with you, you will select the event that you wish to squad for and preferred post(s). After providing your preference of an early, middle, or late squad and preferred bank section, and which of these two is most important, you will be shown six possible squads on the screen from which to make your selection.

3. After making your selection, you will assign shooters to posts. You will then be given the option of squadding for another event, or exiting the squadding process.

4. In the case of yardage differential on Handicap events, you will be able to squad your list of shooters on individual squads, if necessary.

5. When squadding a group of shooters with yardage differential it is recommended that you squad for all Singles and Doubles events first, and then squad the first group of shooters that can shoot together on Handicap, followed by the next group that can shoot together.

6. Handicap squadding will be done in strict accordance to ATA rules.

7. A shooter may squad for only one position per event.

8. Squadding by telephone will not be allowed. If you draw squad positions that will not be used for an event, please return to squadding, or use one of the self service kiosks to release your position. Anyone that does not release unused positions will risk having any or all subsequent pre-squadded positions in their name released by Management.

9. The trap line will be divided into seven sections and each section has several shooting banks within the section. All pre-squadding shooters may select their preferred section. There are 28 total banks of two fields each at the Missouri Trapshooters Association. The bank sections are defined as follows:

• Section 1 – banks 1-4• Section 2 – banks 5-8• Section 3 – banks 9-12• Section 4 – banks 13-17• Section 5 – banks 18-22• Section 6 – banks 23-28

10. Remote squadded shooters that do not pay for the first event of any day 30 minutes prior to the first event of the day risk having all pre-squadded positions opened up for that day.

EMPTY SHELLS: If you want your empties, put them in your pocket. No picking up of empties from the ground is allowed at any time. Once hulls have hit the ground they are then the property of the ATA and are not to be removed except by designated ATA staff.

AMMUNITION: New shells are mandatory for all Handicap events and Handicap shootoffs. Shooters will be able to bring their own shells (including reloads for Single and Double events) or may buy shells at the ATA exclusive Gamaliel Shooting Supply at the shell house at retail pricing. All other shell sales onsite are prohibited. The shell house closes at 6 P.M., so make sure that you get your shootoff shells before 6 P.M. Violations of the shell standards as listed in the ATA rule book will be dealt with aggressively including possible long suspensions.

TARGET SETTING: The Target-Setting Committee shall procure predicted weather conditions and set targets each morning or upon event changes. Targets will be set in accordance with ATA rules.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS’ ANNUAL MEETING: The ATA Board of Directors and alternate Delegates will meet in the Clubhouse at 7 P.M. Wednesday, August 12 for their annual business meeting.

DOMESTIC & INTERNATIONAL SHOOTERS: This program governs this Championship tournament and The Amateur Trapshooting Association rules will govern. The Executive Committee reserves the right to change or modify the program in any manner at any time. Interpretation of this program will be made by the Executive Committee, and their decision shall be final.

LIMITED ENTRY: Due to the uncertainty of event attendance levels as a result of the COVID-19 crisis, shoot management reserves the right to limit entries or reduce the number of targets in any events. We strongly encourage you to pre-squad.

In case entries are so numerous that darkness or any other cause prevents the finish of any event the same day it is commenced, management reserves the authority to stop the shooting at any time it may be deemed necessary. In this case, weather permitting, the shooting will begin where it left off promptly the next day no later than 8 A.M.

The Executive Committee may reject or refund any entry at this invitational tournament pursuant with ATA official Rule III, C., 3.

PHOTOGRAPHERS: Amateur and professional photographers are not allowed in front of the sidewalk behind each field during registered competition and shootoffs.

DISCLAIMER: The ATA reserves the right to film and record all participants and spectators for the use of promotional videos and publications.

PETS: Shooters are required to have their pets leashed at all times while on the grounds. It is also mandatory that you clean up after your pet.

SOLICITING: No soliciting, selling of chances or similar activities will be allowed on the grounds, nor shall any literature of any kind be distributed on the grounds without prior written approval by the ATA office.

FIREARMS TRANSFERS AND AMMUNITION SALES: All federal regulations and any regulations of the transferee’s state of residence concerning firearms transfers will be applicable.

The ATA reserves the right to change, alter, or modify this program. Any changes will be emailed to all members and posted at the Grand American.

The Satellite Grand American HAA champions from the ten tournaments during the 2020 target year will be eligible to shootoff for the 2020 Kolar National Satellite Grand Championship Trophy on Friday, August 7 immediately following Event 9, the Kolar Doubles. The initial round of this shoot off will include 20 Singles, 10 Handicap, 10 Pair Doubles and 10 Pair 27 yard Doubles targets. FRIDAY, AUGUST 7 - EVENTS 7, 8 & 9The shooters with the highest combined scores (must shoot all three events) from each state/province from Friday’s events will make up the National Team Race teams. The number of members of each team will be as follows:

Men - Top 5 from each State/Province

Lady I, Lady II, Sub-Junior, Junior, Junior-Gold, Sub-Veteran,

Veteran, Senior Veteran - Top 3 from each State/Province

Determination of category and residence will be based upon Grand American classification. Any shooter classified as “Targets Only” will not be considered for any team.

87 Trophies: Will be awarded. The Champion, Runner-up and Third place teams in each of the above team types will receive trophies.

Ties: Will be decided by determining the team sub-event scores from the front, starting with the Singles event, followed by the Handicap event and then the Doubles event. If still tied, then the shootoff committee will determine a means to break the tie.

The number of participants for the Nostalgia Shoot has grown every year so come to the 2020 Grand American and join in the fun. Bring your Remington Models 10, 11, 11-48, 29, 31 & 32, Winchester Models 12, 21 & 1897, or Ithaca Single Barrel trap guns to the Remington Building between Wednesday, August 5th and Monday, before noon, on August 10th to register and shoot your qualification round to be one of 100 finalists to compete for FREE in the “Nostalgia Shoot”. Every shooter that registers will get to shoot.

• Qualification rounds will be 25 targets shot from the 23 yard line with your Nostalgic shotgun on the practice traps. Qualification rounds can be shot any time after registration butmust be shot by 5:00 P.M. on Monday, August 10th. Shooters are limited to only one qualifying round and eligible guns can only be used for one qualifying round.

• The top 100 qualifiers will have their names, squad numbers and trap assignments posted at the Remington Tent Tuesday morning, August, 11th.

DR. HOWARD MCGARRY TROPHY - A Shamrock Leathers Trophy and $100 presented to High Sub-Junior, Junior, and Junior Gold who are first year ATA members in memory of Dr. Howard McGarry by Dr. Ronald McGarry endowment via the Trapshooting Hall of Fame.

US ARMED FORCES TROPHY - Open to all Active Military card holders (must present an Active Duty, Reserve Duty, Honorable Discharge, or Retired Military card). Sign up at member services by 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 12. Two trophies - one to high shooter Class AAA through A and one to high shooter Class B through D. Ties decided by reverse sub-events, reverse long run, and if necessary, by shoot management.

ZONE SINGLES CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS - $60 and Trophy to Champion Open to Singles Champion or Runner-up (in champion’s absence) at the five ATA Zone Shoots. This race shot concurrently with the Thursday Singles Program.

ZONE CATEGORY CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS - Open to category Singles Champion or Runner-up (in champion’s absence) at the five ATA Zone Shoots. This race will be shot concurrently with the Thursday Singles Program. Trophy to each category champion.

ZONE TEAM CHAMPIONS - Championship Trophies $250 and Five Trophies to Winning Team. Each ATA Zone may enter one team; team must qualify at their Zone Shoot in Singles Championship. Team entries must be turned in on official forms by 10 A.M. on August 13, 2020. Five highest scorers from each Zone Shoot present at Grand American will comprise Zone teams.

STATE TEAM RACE - $150 and Trophies to Winning Team, $100 to Second Team. Each State, Canadian Province or Foreign Country may enter one team; teams must qualify at their State Shoot in Singles Championship. Five highest scorers from each State Shoot present at Grand American will comprise State Teams. Team entry (ATA Delegate’s responsibility) must be turned in on official form by 10 A.M. on August 13, 2020. Forms are available at the squadding desk.

GRAND HISTORY

The Grand American World Trapshooting Championships is one of America’s oldest sporting events. The Grand American has evolved into the premier shooting event in the world with thousands of competitors.

This storied event dates back to 1893 when the first Grand American was held at Dexter Park in Long Island, New York. The 24 competitors shot at live birds. R.A. Welch won the Grand, shooting 23 out of 25.

In 1900, the first Grand American using clay targets was contested at Interstate Park in Queens, New York. Originally a four-day tournament held in June, there were 74 entrants. The shoot was managed by Elmer Shaner and the winner of the Grand was Rolla “Pop” Heikes of Dayton, Ohio.

The Grand American traveled to such cities as Chicago, Columbus, and St. Louis before making a home in Vandalia, Ohio in 1924. The ATA Homegrounds remained in Vandalia until the end of an era in 2005.

The World Shooting & Recreational Complex in Sparta, IL usually hosts the The Grand American. The facility is truly a spectacular site. It has 120 trap fields, which stretch over three and a half miles along a beautiful countryside. There are 1,000 campsites, 4,001 parking spots, and 3 lakes on the grounds.

There are many activities being planned near the facility in various cities.

Today, the Grand American is truly an international event. Competitors travel from around the globe to take part in this annual tournament. Over 400 trophies and more than one million dollars in purses and options will be distributed to winners during the tournament.

Trapshooting Hall of Fame & MuseumThe Hall of Fame (HOF) was founded in 1968 and held its first induction banquet in 1969. Its purpose is to preserve the history and artifacts of trapshooting and to honor outstanding persons in the sport. This year will mark our 52nd induction ceremony. After which, we will have 191 enshrinees (34 women and 157 men).

Hall of Fame ScholarshipThis year’s five recipient’s of the Hall of Fame Scholarships will be announced before shootoffs on Friday, August 14th. After this year’s scholarship presentation, we will have awarded a total of almost 200 college scholarships since the first one was given in 1979.
