The BBM Sir John Pagan Horticulture Award is open to horticulturists younger than 24 years of age at the date of the closing of applications, who are currently undertaking or who have completed an acknowledged course in Horticulture with any University, TAFE or Training Organisation. The winner will receive an $8,000 scholarship to travel to the United Kingdom to further their experience and training in the field of horticulture. Typically, awardees spend a minimum of a month in the UK but more often than not they stay for longer and incorporate work experience or field trips to other parts of Europe. The 2013 BBM Sir John Pagan Horticulture Award

THE AWARD

BBM Youth Support provides annual UK travel scholarships in the fields of Agriculture and Horticulture, Ballet, Ballroom Dancing, Classical Music, Cricket, Drama, Football, Golf, Highland Dancing, Jazz, Plain English Speaking and Scottish Piping. BBM’s goal is to assist motivated young people with potential in their chosen field to gain experience that may otherwise not be available to them. HOW TO NOMINATE The applicant must submit the following items:

o A letter of application including details of your progress to date, how you would benefit from a BBM travel scholarship to the UK, details of any community activities you are involved in and any other information you feel is relevant to your application.

o Completed application form (if handwritten, please print legibly).

o At least one written character reference from a person who has known you for a minimum of 5 years and is not a family member.

o At least one written reference of your ability in your chosen field from a recognised expert.

o A high resolution photograph of you.

o You may be required to undertake a personal interview with the selector/committee via phone.

o Final ratification of all scholarships is at the discretion of BBM Youth Support.

o Email your details and nomination with photo to the AIH Secretariat to lodge your nomination – or post to AIH, see details below.

o Nominations must be received by COB August 31st 2013

o Receipt of your nomination will be acknowledged

SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: The following basic selection guidelines are applicable:

o You should be less than 24 years old at the time of your planned travel to the UK.

o You can demonstrate that you have reached a standard of excellence in your chosen field (age

appropriate) and that you are likely to enhance your career prospects by the UK experience.

o You can confirm that you would not be in a position to finance the project without BBM assistance.

o You are recommended by an approved institution in Australia related to your specialty.

o You can make satisfactory arrangements in Britain to pursue your objectives, including obtaining any

visas you may require.

o You have not visited the UK in the last 5 years. (Limited prior travel for personal reasons may be

acceptable).

o You are committed to be a good ambassador for Australia.

o Upon your return from the UK, you are prepared to provide a detailed written report on your

experiences.

o You agree to assist BBM Youth Support in the future to whatever extent you can.
