Paige Krockta, Foxboro With only limited varsity experience during her first two years, Krockta played a key role for the 17-win, MIAA Division 2 South Tournament quarterfinalists. Kro- ckta teamed with Kendall Milender as the Warriors’ No. 1 doubles team, the duo com- piling a 14-4 record overall. “She moves well and has a great forehand,” Foxboro coach Jon Montanaro said of Krockta. The Warrior captain-elect for next season even won a singles match this season, while pairing with Milender for the MIAA Doubles Tournament. “She improved her volleys and places her return shots well and with Kendall, they set up their points well,” Montanaro said. Kendall Milender, Foxboro The valedictorian of the senior class, the Dartmouth College-bound Milender has been a mainstay of four successive, very successful Foxboro teams. “She’s come a long way, she’s worked for everything,” Jon Montanaro said of her development as a doubles specialist and team leader. The Warriors’ heartbeat, Milender teamed with Paige Krockta to compile a 14-4 record overall for the 17-win Warriors, who advanced to the quarterfinal round of the Division 2 South Tournament. “The mental part of her game sticks out,” Montanaro said of her resourcefulness. “She’s honed in to the finer details, the strategy.” Julia Muise, Foxboro The Warriors’ No. 3 singles player capped her career with a spectacular season, posting a 15-0 slate, overwhelming foes, rarely playing a three-set match. “She’s tremendously competitive and gets everything back,” Jon Montanaro said of her improved service and return games. The UMass-Amherst-bound Muise was pretty much a doubles specialist her first three seasons, this year helping Foxboro post a 17-3 record overall. “She gets ev- erything back and out-rallies opponents,” Montanaro said of Muise’s ability to win the key points, the deuce points in match- es. Pam Nelson, Foxboro One of the most talented athletes at Foxboro High, the Warriors’ distance running standout and out-distance her foes on the tennis courts with her shot selection and ability to hit winners at key junctures. In her first season at the No. 1 singles spot, Nelson posted a 16-3 record overall, helping the Warriors win 17 matches and advance to the quarterfinals of the Divi- sion 2 South Tournament. Nelson won a dozen matches in straight set shutouts, “she’s grooming into a special player,” Jon Montanaro, the Foxboro coach said. “She is able to generate power, she’s improved her consistency. Besides being a tremendous athlete, she’s taken a big step up mentally.” SEE GIRLS, PAGE B3 E King Philip Regional High All-Stars, from left: Erin Regnier, Katie Welch, Katarina Schneider, Grace Ely and Mia Valencia.

Ben Simmons

Ben Simmons, Bishop Feehan

The owner of the single-season record for wins (24), the Shamrocks’ No. 1 singles player for four seasons capped his career

by advancing to the semi-finals of the MIAA Singles Tournament. The Stonehill College-bound Simmons compiled a 24-2 record overall for the Shamrocks. “He has a great grasp of his abilities,” Shamrock coach Brian Dalrymple said of

Simmons. “He’s a great kid and teammate. On the court, he knows what he can hit and when he can hit it.” Simmons was a ball boy at the Tennis Hall of Fame Tour-nament for nearly a decade.

Jack Cannon, King Philip

As a sophomore Cannon played both singles and doubles for the Warriors and he continued to excel at both this season for the Kelley-Rex Division champions. Cannon compiled a 10-1 record at No. 3 singles spot for the 17-win Warriors, while

going 6-1 with Nate Ihley at No. 1 doubles. “He steadily has improved his forehand and is very steady at the baseline,” King Philip coach Jim McGonigle said of the 6-foot-2 junior. Although not a flashy player, Cannon is consistent and steady and never gets rattled mentally. Along with Ihley, the duo won two rounds at the MIAA Doubles Tournament.

Marco DiStefano, King Philip

The Northeastern University-bound DiStefano wears his heart on his green and gold sleeve. “He has that veteran savvy,” Jim McGonigle said of the Warriors’ No. 1 singles player the past two seasons. He went 12-6 this season, taking Franklin’s Liam Marr to three sets and helping KP win 14 matches and the Kelley-Rex Divi-sion crown. “He as a good range of shots, he can mix it up with his groundstrokes,” McGonigle said of the southpaw hitting DiStefano, a doubles specialist during his first two varsity seasons. “A very competi-tive kid who had a great career,” added the KP coach of his importance in the War-

riors winning three straight league crowns.

Nate Ihley, King Philip

With Jack Cannon as a partner for KP’s No. 1 doubles team, the duo compiled a 6-1 record and won two rounds at the MIAA Doubles Tournament. With various other partners, the 6-foot-2 Ihley went 18-2 overall, including a win at singles. Own-ing range and strong footwork, Ihley is a perfect doubles specialist. “He’s a force because he’s so good at the net,” Jim McGonigle said of Ihley’s strong strategic skill set as well. “He has such good hands and he’s able to angle his volleys away.” Ihley’s competitiveness resulted in helping KP produce a 17-4 record overall and win a third straight Hockomock League title.

Nick Putney, King Philip

The Warriors’ 6-foot-2 sophomore package of power and skill produced an 18-1 record this season for the Warriors. Playing at No. 2 singles mostly (he was 5-1 at No. 1 singles), Putney proved he could play among the best. Putney took KP’s

lone point against Needham in the Division 1 South Tournament. Putney improved his serve and volley game, “but it’s his big serve and strong groundstrokes which set him apart,” Jim McGonigle said of the Warriors’ incumbent No. 1 player for the 2020 season.

Julia Muise, Foxboro

The Warriors’ No. 3 singles player capped her career with a spectacular season, posting a 15-0 slate, overwhelming foes, rarely playing a three-set match.

“She’s tremendously competitive and gets everything back,” Jon Montanaro said of her improved service and return games.
