The 4 secrets to choosing a high-tonnage press brake and live happily A press brake is forever

Page 2: The 4 secrets to choosing a high-tonnage press brake and live happily

High-tonnage press brakes are the giants of sheet metal fabrication. Circuits and frame are brought to work in demanding conditions. Bent pieces are pretty expensive, especially with high-strength steel. Any mistake can cost dearly in time and money. For this reasons it's even more important to make an informed and aware purchase. But what are the key factors that you have to keep in mind?

1. Active crowning with real-time control

> unavoidable structural deformations > extreme material variability High tonnages, applied to very long rams and benches, cause considerable deformations in the machine frame. If you work sheet metal with especially high yield, this effect is even more amplified. The risk is to have an angle which is not constant along the profile.

The real problem derives from the fact that sheet metal to be bent is extremely variable. Nobody can foresee the exact characteristics of the casting or the dimensional tolerances of the rolling mill, because they vary every day. That's why traditional compensation techniques, based on a preset database, are actually unreliable. To avoid wasting these expensive steels, as well as the time spent in cutting and handling, you have to measure the actual frame deformation in real time and to actively compensate it.

2. Reliability > high currents and pressures > quality components > extended warranty and fast service Electric and hydraulic circuits in such machines represent a true engineering challenge. Currents of hundreds of amperes and pressures as high as 280 bar (28 MPa / 4000 psi) must be handled with special care and the utmost attention.

Machine stops on high-tonnage press brakes can substantially compromise company margins and affect the entire production cycle. For this reason Gasparini uses only high quality suppliers like Bosch-Rexroth, Nuova Elettronica and Panasonic. Circuits and piping are made in-house, including key parts like hydraulic cylinders.

We know that these machines are the backbone of a company and must always meet and exceed the expectetions. That's why we can boast: • an extended warranty UP TO 48 MONTHS • an average repair time as short as 135 MINUTES • NEXT-DAY technical service

3. Strength and solidity FEA structural analysis A pressbrake frame must be able to withstand hundreds of tons of force. For this reason Gasparini dimensions all parts with Finite Element Analysis (FEA). Nothing is left to chance: every component of the machine is designed aking into account the working conditions and foreseeing its behavior. Critical points are discovered and solved with absolute certainty.

4. Energy and oil consumption > reduction of operating costs A 1000-ton pressbrake consumes 120 kW at peak power: enough to power 40 households at maximum absorption. The reservoir has a capacity of more than 1050 liters (277 gallons) of oil. The ECO package guarantees an energy saving, as well as an increase in speed, thanks to the inverter motor drive. Moreover, by varying the motor speed according to the force required, it lowers oil stress. In this way, operating costs and failure rates are reduced.
