A library is infinity under aroof.—Gail Carson Levine

We have many books by verypopular authors in our library. From time to time we like tointroduce a book by an authornew to our collection. Ourfeatured book this month is anew large print called “The CliffHouse” by RaeAnn Thaynes. Sheis a N.Y. Times best-sellingauthor and has many awards forher books, but this is the firstone by her in our library. Afterthe death of their mother, Daisyand Bea found a home withtheir Aunt Stella in CapeSanctuary. They never knew allthe dreams Stella sacrificed sothey would have everything theyneeded. Bea got pregnant far tooyoung. The marriage thatfollowed did not last, but it gaveBea her wonderful daughter. Justas Bea finds a new love, herex-husband turns their livesupside down. Then there’sDaisy. She has never taken a riskin her life until she meets a manwho makes her questioneverything she thought she knewabout life, love and takingchances. Stella, Bea and Daisydiscover that the path to truehappiness is filled with twistsand turns, but love always leadsthem back home. Take time tobrowse in our library anddiscover some new authors thatyou have not read before likeRaeAnn Thaynes. K. Trahan

Migrating MonarchsEach autumn, millions of

monarchs take to the skies tobegin their journey to a warmerclimate for the winter. Theannual migration is one ofnature’s most fascinatingspectacles.

Cooler temperatures andshorter days alert the orange-and-black butterflies to takeflight. Those west of the RockyMountains head to SouthernCalifornia, where thousands

hibernate in forests along thecoast. But swarms of the easternpopulation travel much farther, from Canada and thenortheastern U.S. to themountains of central Mexico—a distance of nearly 3,000 miles.Monarchs numbering in themillions take shelter in the firtrees there.

How the butterflies find theirway to the same sites year afteryear is a mystery to scientists, but they believe the insects usethe sun as a compass. Evenmore remarkable is that newgenerations settle in the sametrees as their ancestors did!

When spring comes, monarchs begin their flightback north.
