On a warm July day in 2012,

The first topic 5HB have be

learned about was the

A n c i e n t E g y p t i a n ' s .

Because we were learning

about Egyptian’s we got to

go on a trip to the British

Museum ( 22nd October

2012).

In the morning of 22nd

October 2012 everyone in

5HB arrived at school 8:40

AM. 5HB got ready, reallyquickly because the bus

was all ready here . The

bus was called a double

decker bus. When 5HB

arrived there they went to

theatre in the museum .

All of the year 5 class went

too .

There was a teacher that

knew all about Egyptian’s .

She show us thing and then

she said “ Who want’s to

volunteer ?” Lot of people

volunteer she said “ I will

need someone to be a lion

and we will need osiers ,

Isaacs , papyrus and two

people too be the people

that mummify the body and

one last person to be any of them places ?”

Then we went through the

gift shop and we saw lots

of different thing at the

gallery . We saw a big head

that was bigger then Mr

Bryant (The head of year5 in

Pinkwell school). We had togo to different gallery’s and

they all had different thing.

In one of the gallery there

Mummy’s that where buried

in the sand with thing that

people put in there. The

mummy’s get put in

pyramid for 1000 of years .

In The British Museum you

The Attendance BearThe Attendance BearThe Attendance BearThe Attendance BearOn Tuesday 18th June 2013

5HB fina l l y won the

attendance bear for the 2nd

time everyone in 5HB was

extremely mad and happy as

they got 100% (%=percentage)

but they won it with 5HJ but

no-one cared . They were just

happy because they finally

WON IT!!!!

Mr Bryant was like ‘sweet‘sweet‘sweet‘sweet

victory’victory’victory’victory’ when the first time

when 5HB got the bear was on

December 2012 so a very long

time ago before Christmas Eve

also Miss Rees was happy a lot

too. Too bad they didn’t get to

do it with Miss Dowling. She

would’ve been very pleased.

Miss Dowling was in 5HB just

for a course.

5HB had to wear their ownclothes on Thursday because

when they won it for the 2nd

time and the trip was on

Friday so that’s why they had

to wear on Thursday. The

other class 5HJ were also

pleased but they won it more

than 5 times this year or

down. They are trying their

best to win it for themselves

but they are finding it very

hard just like last year in year4(5HB) they only won it once.

5HB only has 2 or 3 weeks

left until they move into year

6 which is their only last year

until they go to high school

which is year 7.

Even though they only have 2

or 3 weeks everyone believes

that they can get more than 3

times maximum or maybe even

more than 3 but maximum of

getting it more because they

have a couple of weeks which

is only 5.

People in 5HB are getting

really annoyed of people who

don’t show up but actually

people are feeling a bit sad. Here is one of the pupil Elvis

Pun saying what he thinks

about losing the attendance

bear ‘I feel quite sad because‘I feel quite sad because‘I feel quite sad because‘I feel quite sad because

we didn’t win it’we didn’t win it’we didn’t win it’we didn’t win it’. I believe that

5HB can win it even though

they don’t have enough time.

What do you think can 5HB

win it or will they fail and

stay with an ok record of

winning the bear twice? This

question still remains a

mystery for a couple of

weeks so yeah

And that’s all about the

attendance bear!

Six months ago 5HB

were writing stories

based on Indiana Jones.First they were listening

to the eerie music of

Indiana Jones watching

it, then they had to

guess what it was. The

class was watching the

video without the sight

and the sound and were

trying to figure what

was happening in it. I

asked Fahiza if shefound the subject fun

and she said, “It was“It was“It was“It was

EPIC!”EPIC!”EPIC!”EPIC!”. They moved

onto planning their own

story and they planned

on planning hills

Then I asked Shayan to

tell me how he felt

when he was watching

the video and he said, “I“I“I“Iwas shocked!”was shocked!”was shocked!”was shocked!”. When

they finished the

planning they waited a

few days before they

wrote their own story.

They also had to write

a piece of descriptive

writing. They wrote

tonnes of adjectives and

adverbs.

It was not long till they

could draw their ownbooby traps, colour

them in and also label

them. Some of their

pictures our on 5HBs

display board. Most

c h i l d r e n d r e wunpeculiar traps and

some drew common

ones. Then they got to

draw the i r own

monsters and a hero/

Indiana. They had to

label the work that theydrew. Lots of people

just labelled how it

worked.

They also got to name

Indiana’s partner what

they wanted his name tobe. They drew Indiana,

h i s par tner who

betrayed him and

dozens of booby traps

in the picture. I asked

Fahiza again what thesubject was about and

she replied “A strange“A strange“A strange“A strange

man on an adventure toman on an adventure toman on an adventure toman on an adventure to

get a shimmeringget a shimmeringget a shimmeringget a shimmering

golden Idol, but whatgolden Idol, but whatgolden Idol, but whatgolden Idol, but what

about his partner?”about his partner?”about his partner?”about his partner?”Later on we came up

with adjectives to

describe the scenario

and setting of what was

going on, they answered

questions of the subjectand adjectives for the

tune, for example eerie,

dark and

spooky. They

also drew

little mini

stories of their own

describing the

setting. They

had a talk

about why his

partner wouldbetray him

a n d t h e

answer was,

because he

wanted the Idol

all to himself. Later on Iasked someone how

they felt when they

drew their picture and

they said “It was kind“It was kind“It was kind“It was kind

of fun”of fun”of fun”of fun” so I took it as

their drawing wasfantastic and really

great!

They wrote under the

picture what was

happening in the

picture and someonewrote a monster trying

to kill a little girl and

some of them wroteour opinion on what

was happening. The

board in their classroom

can show you the stuff

that they were doing in

Indiana Jones week. In

that week they did a lot

of talking, listening,

drawing and writing.

They have also done a

lot of vocabulary as

well which is describing

words for our picture.

At Pinkwell

school in

class 5HB, the

pupils got touse some very

exciƟng

They could also go on the

internet and collaborate on

some steps to success onsubjects like

literacy and

maths!

But

before

they

coulddo that,

they had

to know how

to log in. 5HB had 2 ways to

log in the 1st

was they could

log in as a guest or they

could log in with a card.

Fahiza said “we could

also go on our class

blog or go on games”but they could only do this

on Friday when they had

golden Ɵme.

Fahiza also said “The

best part of the

Chromebooks waswhen we got to go

on the blog”.

In the mornings, 5HB

started to use the

Chromebooks for self-

evaluaƟons which could

help them in future

lessons. Finally the lastthing they used the

Chromebooks for was when

5HB started using them for

reading as they could go on

their blog and comment on

their posts.

In May people were

picked for the Footballteam. Mr Baker coached

us until year 6 and he

 was an extremely good

coach. He knew who to

pick, me. He picked ten

other people as well so it

 was awesome.

 When we trained the

First time, we played

with the year 5 and year

6’s. The year sixes and

year 5 were kind of hard

at first but I fought it through with my team

mates until September

 when they left.

There was a Match

against Botwell and I was

fit and ready for the big

match.

 When it was Match day,

 witch they call the well

cup for Pinkwell andBotwell, I got dressed in

the Pinkwell kit and got

to my position on the

pitch witch was a sub like

my friend Elvis for Half

of the match. Then we

played for the other half and it was 1v1 and it was

penalties.

First Sachin took the first p e n a l t y a n d h e

MISSED! Then Botwell

took it and they scored

and then Carlos took it

went wide then Botwelltook the shot and they

scored and they won

(you should of seen the

look on there faces).

We sat in a group feeling

sorry for ourselves. We

felt proud of ourselves

too so we did a round of

applause also we were

proud of Botwell too.

 When we went home, I

said well done to all my

teammates and the Bot-

well team too. I told the

news to all my friends

and family and they were

all sad too. So there it

was, but it is not finished

yet I still have more to

go.Then a few months later

there was a tournament

“Cross country

The best part of cross

On Friday 21st

, a fantasƟc class

called 5HB, travelled on a

train to the Tower of London;

it was based on their topic,

The Tudors.

They walked to the staƟon

slowly in a straight line.

Nikita, in 5HB exclaimed

answered, “it was really fun,

walking together as a school

family. It was really exciƟng

being with my friends and

chaƫng along the way”.Once they arrived they had to

wait a bit. Mckayla said “The

Journey was quit long

because we had to wait for 5

minutes”.

Then the train arrived in Ɵme,

but we had to take 2 trains.Josh angrily answered  “The

Journey was long because we

had to take 2 trains. Arshiyan

cried “It was liƩle long unƟl

we got the next train which

took an hour”.

AŌer all that, they arrived at

the massive Tower. All of

them were really surprisedwhen they saw it. Simran

happily sighed “I was really

excited about exploring the

old Tower”.

AŌer that, they went inside to

have a suspicious look around.

The first Tower they went

inside was the White Tower;in there they took some

pictures of the charming,

delicate equipment, the olden

famous people leŌ when they

died. Hardeep hissed,” When

I was inside I was really

shocked because it was sƟnky

and there was too manyspiders”.

Whilst some of the children

were talking, a strange man

came walking cauƟously;

dressed like a Tudor funnily to

them. Some people were

confused about what he was

wearing. However they knew

he wasn’t a Tudor aŌer all. Do

that have been happening in

the Tower.

Quickly the man hurried off

and we went to the giganƟc

salt tower. We had a quick

look around at some of thethings however we were

really hungry so we rushed off

to have lunch.

Slowly we tried to walk to the

Tower (Bloody Tower). It was

colossal. Everybody was really

excited that they jumped like

monkeys that have escaped

from the zoo. All the teachers

started to laugh funnily when

they saw them. Sus piously

we looked up quietly on the

wall; and it said Reighley

walk. All of us got inside and

watched every signal details

that were given on the room.

There was a dusty table with

a book which was covered

with black things, along with a

broken chair. Then we walked

out of the tower sadly like a

child who has failed in their

test.

Unfortunately we had to go

back to the staƟon to get the

train. Whilst we were talkingthe train came rushing over to

us like it want us to pick it. So

we got into the train and we

travelled Ɵredly back to the

second staƟon. Well we had

to walk back to the school

which was the worst thing of

all. When we were there the

children saw their parents

and went home with a painful

Space passport is to help our

table.

In the space passport there

are lots of planets to go

through.

It is only one minute in the

test, so we need to think

quickly! So 5HB have to

practise dividing adding,

times tables and taking

away.

5HB started on planet Venus,

but year 1 could start on

Mercury .By Mohammed

Space Passports  TOP TIPS!!

First you have to learn

your ,1s,2s,3s time table.

Secondly you have to right

it down as fast as you can

when you know all of your

time table.

Thirdly get better of your

time table and you will get

faster.

Fourthly you will move up

to the milky way.

Finally you have finished

your maths passport.

On Thursday 13th June 2013, Mr

Bryant, Mrs Fulker, Dipali,

 Adeotie, Imaan & Jaipreet all

travelled to Westminster Abbey

for the Royal Quiz.

 All four children had been

revising extremely hard for the

quiz; they had been coming in

the bungalow every break and

lunch-time as this was the only

efficient time that they could

afford. “It was very annoying

but at the same time worth it!”

says Jaipreet 5HB. Mrs Fulker

let the girls use her room as a

study room. They worked really

hard using their projects and

any other information they

could find.

 When the day came everyone

was really excited. After a long

day of hard revision and

reading, the time came forthem to set off on their journey.

 Walking to the train station

was quite pleasant and jolly as

everyone was buzzing with

excitement! Some of them

couldn’t even stop jumping

about!

Just at the last minute, they

caught the train to London

Paddington before getting on

the underground. The train

 journey was eight stops till

finally, after a long, peaceful

 journey, London Paddington

had finally arrived!

 After the relaxing journey, we

had to switch to the

underground. The

underground was much more

packed than the over ground

station as people were rushingto get to work. Therefore the

wait for a train was even longer.

As soon as a train that was

available came to the station,

they all jumped on and settled

down for the ride. As the

journey was very long and jostling, we soon were relaxing

as more and more people got

off this busy train. Finally their

journey was over and they still

had time to spare!

On their way out, They all saw

Big Ben! “Big Ben looked

massive and as the clouds were

moving, it felt as if it was going

to fall down

on top of

 you!” said

 Adeotie. After

that, Mr

Bryant

suggested that

they should

go and watch

the River

Thames.

Dipali said “It

 was very

exciting learning about the way

the river moves!”

 Whilst travelling to

 Westminster Abbey, they all

got a bit lost on the route to

‘The Education centre’ where

the quiz was going to take

place. Luckily, the girls, who

knew a lot of things about

 Westminster Abbey

remembered that they had to

go in from the right of the

south door and the south door

had stone carvings above so

they set out a search party to

find the south door.

 When they found the south

door, the excitement grew and

grew. As they went inside the

excitement grew to its

maximum limit.

The very first thing they did

 was have some juice and

biscuits.. After that they

introduced everyone. They

found out that the person who

was going to read out the

questions for each rounds.

Pinkwell’s best round was the

 jigsaw round where they were

the first group to fit all thepieces together. The subjects

for the rounds were: Royal

Portraits, Jigsaw rounds, Who

am I, and general question

rounds,

After all the rounds , everyone

knew what was coming next,

they were about to find out

their scores. “I was really

tensed as the names were being

called out as I wanted for

Pinkwell to win!” said Imaan.

The place that Pinkwell came

in was fourth!

The next day everyone was

telling the contestants from

Pinkwell that they did really

well and they deserved to go to

the quiz.

New Teacher arrives! New Teacher arrives! New Teacher arrives! New Teacher arrives!

Recently, 5HB had been working with a new teacher. They had

lots of fun but what exactly did they get up to?

In April and May of

2013, 5HB had a newteacher join them.

Everyone was very

pleased to be working

with someone else. The

teachers name was Miss

Dowling from Reading

U n i v e r s i t y . M i s sDowling too was very

happy to be working

with some young

children. One of our

fellow pupils, Fahiza

said “I was scared

because I was going to

work with someone

I’ve never met before,”

After a few days of

getting to know each

other, the friendly

teacher began to teach

5HB some lessons.

“She taught us art and

made maths fun! She

was very polite and

nice,” said Sanisha,

5HB.

Some of the other

lessons she taught them

were, Literacy, Gym,I.C.T. and Science. In

Rhea’s opinion, she

said, “I really liked

learning with her, my

favourite activity with

her was, commas and

semi-colons,” Not just

that, the children did

some rea l ly fun

activities with Miss

Dowling like, reading

‘My Friend Walter’ and

‘Midsummer Night’s

Dream’. They also made

s o m e d e l i c i o u s

flavoured bread and

pretended to be Blood

Cells as part of their

Science lesson. 5HB

loved these activities

and wish to do them

again with her, but one

s t u d e n t , B r a n d o n

particularly enjoyed one

of them. “I mostly

liked dancing to Wake

and Shake!” he said.

Over the weeks, 5HBbecame more confident

with her. But how?

Nikita claimed that one

of the steps was,

“ K n o w i n g M i s s

Dowling better,”

Sadly, in May, Miss

Dowling had to leave

5HB and return to

Reading University.

Fabiana told other

pupils, “It was nice

having her but I wassad when she had to

leave,”

Simran asked Rhea and

Elvis for one thing that

they would change

about their time with

Miss Dowling. Their

r e p l i e s w e r e :

“Nothing,” and “Make

it longer,”

Luckily, that wasn’t the

end. On 21st June 2013,

Miss Dowling came

back to go with 5HB ontheir trip to The Tower

of London. She really

enjoyed it but when she

returned to the school,

she had to leave forever.

The really children

enjoyed Miss Dowling’s

company and were

proud that she was a

By Simran

Good luck!

Miss Dowling on

5HB’s trip.

On the first day of Drama club

we talked to everyone and we

told our names.

Then we acted out a play script

the teacher gave us a number

each to go in the group.

We all played sharades we had

to write down a peace of some-

thing like music or a movie. If

you wrote it down you can’t

guess the acƟon.

Then we looked at faces and we

got into groups and acted out

different parts of a day. Akshita

said “she would be really happy

if she was in drama club.” She

also said “she would be extra

exited if her friend’s would be

there.”

We then looked at acƟng and

how you can make a play script

we also looked at famous sing-

ers and famous actors as well.

We then looked at drama and

plays the teacher said “at the

end we would act out a play

script.”

We would act out a play script

and show it to the whole school

but not recepƟon because they

will be scared.

First of all, 5HB had to

walk to the station in a

single file which was

really hard because it’s a

bit boring if you don’t talk

in a trip. Anyway, they gotinto the first train which

wasn ’ t tha t long.

Everybody was chatting

and having lots of fun

especially the boys, they

were loud as the electric

guitars.

After that they got off the

train and they had to walk

to get the underground

train. When they got into

it they were all excited,

and nervous.

Even though, the train

took a bit long, they

finally arrived at the

enormous museum. All of

them rushed in quickly

like a cheetah into the

museum. There it was…acolossal fake dinosaur

looking suspiciously into

the children’s eyes . But

they didn’t mind it at all.

Well they started to

explore really.

Unfortunately they didn’t

have that much time to

look at other things in

downstairs. However

they hurried crazily into

the next section which

was the mammals. But

when they arrived there,

all of them saw the mind-

blowing whale where, it

was seriously huge

especially its length.

Arshiyan cried “I was

extremely shocked than

ever because it waslarge as the Solar

system”. They all looked

around carefully like a

special detective. Some

of them were explaining

to their team leader

which was a bit strange.

Issa, in 5HB exclaimed “I

checked out lots of

interesting stuff which

looked fascinating”.

Even some of the

children took amazing

photos of the mammals.

Not for long it was lunch

time but lots of the

children couldn’t wait tosee the deadly, creepy

dinosaurs. So when they

finished their lunch, they

all ran quickly like the

wind to dinosaur section.

Suddenly they saw two

little cute, friendly

dinosaurs moving.

Hardeep whispered “The

dinosaurs where really

interesting and I got to

look at them closely

but not that

close because

there was a

long queue so I

had to move

along quickly”.That wasn’t the

end of that

because after

that they saw a

m a s s i v e

dinosaur which

had dark red eyes with

an extremely loudROAR!!!!!!!

Finally the last section

was the Creepy crawls .

Slowly they walked

towards inside; when

they saw lots of magicalinsects and crawls in a

odd house . But when

they got inside the

mystery house they

were shocked !!!!!!!!

Because they saw lots

and lots of disgusting

insects and bugs all

around, thankfully it

wasn’t real but it lookedreal also some looked

dead . Happily they got

out off house in a relief

then suddenly they saw a

giant scorpion which

was moving. Josh

a n s w e r e d “ T h e

scorpion really lookedreal and I was a bit

scared”.

All those things were

really cool but there

wasn’t that much time

left. In fact Mr Bryanttook a wonderful photo of

5HB . Like before they

took the trains and

walked to school happily

with a huge smile on

everyone's face. Rajveer

happily shouted “I

really enjoyed the tripand I learned lots of

interesting facts from

the museum”. Before

going home Mr Bryant
