AI4People is a multi-stakeholder forum,bringing together all actors interested inshaping the social impact of new applicationsof AI, including the European Commission, theEuropean Parliament, civil societyorganisations, industry and the media.

Launched in February 2018 with a three yearroadmap, the goal of AI4People is to create acommon public space for laying out thefounding principles, policies and practices onwhich to build a “good AI society”. For this tosucceed we need to agree on how best tonurture human dignity, foster humanflourishing and take care of a better world. Itis not just a matter of legal acceptability, it isreally a matter of ethical preferability.

Following the presentation at the European Parliament of AI4People’s EthicalFramework for a Good AI Society that served as inspiration to the EuropeanCommission and guided the identification of the 7 Key Requirements for aTrustworthy AI, In 2020 AI4People calls for the launch of a process thatpaves the way towards common, internationally recognised, industry-specificframeworks.

In light of this, AI4People’s 2020 program is based on the creation ofthe first 7 Good AI Global Frameworks, which will consider the impactthat the 7 key requirements will have within 7 vertical business sectors,and establish concrete and practical steps that businesses operatingwithin each sector must take to ensure compliant with o the 7 KeyRequirements for a Trustworthy AI, whilst considering the ethicalprinciples and guidelines released by China (The Bejing Principles releasedby the Beijing Academy of Artificial Intelligence and the New Generation AIGovernance Principles released by the National New Generation ArtificialIntelligence Governance Committee), the OECD (OECD Principles onArtificial Intelligence), and the US Chamber of Commerce (Principles onArtificial Intelligence).

In 2020, AI4People will host a series of institutional meetings in Europe,China and the USA (please see point 10) to initiate an inclusive dialogueintended/designed to build a broad and global consensus on the 7 Good AIGlobal Frameworks, whilst involving the world’s leading institutions tosupport and subscribe to The 7 Frameworks.

This process will result in the creation of the AI Global Mark ofCompliance Initiative, a global quality certification mark - launching in2021 – authenticating ethically sound uses of AI.

Considering the different applications of AI in specific verticalbusiness sectors, and in close cooperation with the BusinessPartners’ expertise, AI4People’s 2020 program is based on thecreation of the first 7 Good AI Global Frameworks, whichwill consider the impact that the 7 key requirements will havewithin 7 vertical business sectors, and establish concrete andpractical steps that businesses operating within each sectormust take to ensure compliant with o the 7 Key Requirementsfor a Trustworthy AI.

The activities will also analyse case studies from theAI4People’s Business Partners and consider the ethicalprinciples and guidelines released by the EuropeanCommission, by China (The Bejing Principles released by theBeijing Academy of Artificial Intelligence and the NewGeneration AI Governance Principles released by the NationalNew Generation Artificial Intelligence GovernanceCommittee), by OECD (OECD Principles on ArtificialIntelligence), and by the US Chamber of Commerce (Principleson Artificial Intelligence).

In 2021, in agreement with the European Parliament, the 7

Good AI Global Frameworks will spearhead the launch of TheAI Global Mark of Compliance Initiative. The AI Global Markof Compliance (AIGMC) will be a quality certification markauthenticating ethically sound uses of AI. The AIGMC, as aninternationally recognised certification of ethically soundpractices, will be applied in different contexts, including inbusinesses, in specific products and services which adhere tothe 7 Good AI Global Frameworks.

Good AI Global Frameworks,AI4People will also consider andliaise with: the Future of LifeInstitute’s Asilomar Principles, theGeneral Principles offered in thesecond version of Ethically AlignedDesign: A Vision for PrioritizingHuman Well-being with Autonomousand Intelligent Systems launched bythe IEEE Global Initiative on Ethicsof Autonomous and IntelligentSystems, the Five OverarchingPrinciples for an AI Code offered inparagraph 417 of the UK Houseof Lords Artificial IntelligenceCommittee’s report, the MontrealDeclaration for Responsible AI,the Tenets of the Partnership onAI, HLEG's Ethics Guidelines forTrustworthy AI and the recentOECD Principles on AI.The activity will also consider andliaise with the EuropeanEconomic and Social Committee,the European Commission’s AIStrategy and the 2019 work ofthe High-Level Expert Groups onAI, as well as the Council of

Europe’s legal regulation - such asGDPR and regulation 2018/858on the approval and surveillanceof motor vehicles.AI4People will also consider andliaise with the work of furtherinitiatives such as:- the United Nations’ AI for GoodGlobal Summits;- the Global Initiative on Ethics ofAutonomous and Intelligent Systemsof the Institute of Electrical andElectronics Engineers (IEEE);- the work of the Committee onProfessional Ethics and PublicPolicy Council of the Associationfor Computing Machinery(ACM);- the Partnership on AI,- the work of the Software andInformation Industry Association(SIIS);- and the work of the WorldEconomic Forum’s Centre for theFourth Industrial Revolution.

The working methodology for the third year will be moreparticipatory and will allow greater personal interactionin the committees that will include representatives fromAcademia, Industry, CSO’s and European Parliament.

The committees program for 2020 is based on workingtoward the creation of the first 7 Good AI GlobalFrameworks. During the year the concrete objectivesof each Committee are:

• To consider the impact that the 7 keyrequirements will have within the 7 verticalindustry sectors (Automotive, Banking & Finance,Energy, Healthcare, Insurance, Legal ServicesIndustry, Media & Technology); and

• To establish concrete and practical steps that eachsector must take to be compliant with respect tothe 7 Key Requirements for a Trustworthy AI.

This will foresee three annual meetings in person as inthe past two years, in addition to open events for thepresentation of the results and the AI4People Summit.
