HEP Job Description Job Title: Healthy Eating Adviser Location: Kensington and Chelsea, and Westminster Start Date: 1 st September 2020 Contract: Fixed term for up to 12 months (September 2020 – end of September 2021) Hours: Full time (37.5 hours p/w) Job Purpose: To deliver a nutrition training and activity programme for staff, children, young people, parents/carers and families in early years settings, primary and secondary schools, voluntary and community organisations, youth settings, play and leisure services and relevant businesses. This role will be supported by a Senior Nutritionist, Programme Coordinator and Physical Activity Lead, Physical Activity and Play Consultant and Catering Operations Consultant. Responsibilities: To deliver training courses for staff working with children, young people and families to ensure they can: o Provide evidence-based advice about nutrition, healthy eating, oral health, physical activity and sleep. o Confidently raise and discuss the issue of weight with children, young people and parents/carers in a sensitive and constructive way. o Deliver their own practical healthy cooking activities with children, young people and parents. To support early years settings, primary and secondary schools, voluntary and community organisations, youth settings, play and leisure services and relevant businesses to: o Review food provision and plan menus to support healthy eating and catering practices o Develop and implement food policies To deliver activities to promote and increase the uptake of Healthy Start vouchers and vitamins amongst eligible local families. To work in partnership with the Healthy Early Years, Healthy Schools, and Change4Life award Coordinators to support early years settings, schools, and voluntary and community organisations to meet the nutrition and healthy eating requirements of the awards. To deliver nutrition based educational activities to children and young people in schools and community settings e.g. assemblies, lessons, pop up information stalls To deliver nutrition based activities to parents/carers and families in early years and community settings e.g. parent/family workshops, pop up information stalls To deliver engaging activities to promote key healthy lifestyle messages and local services at key community events. To work with schools to integrate health promotion activities into the curriculum and to ensure activities are aligned with other services offered to schools. To record, monitor, report and evaluate activities and to contribute to monitoring and evaluation of the programme Travel and work across the boroughs of Kensington and Chelsea, and Westminster. Able to work from home.

The role profile will be supplemented and further defined by HEP’s contracts, which will be developed in conjunction with the post holder and subject to regular review. Knowledge, Skills, Experience:

• A Nutrition and Dietetics, Nutrition or related Public Health qualification

• Registration with a relevant professional registering body in the UK for either nutrition or dietetics

• Experience delivering training courses to professionals from a range of sectors

• Experience delivering health promotion activities to children, young people and families

• Excellent presentation and facilitation skills, in relation to delivering training

• Excellent organisational skills

• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people including other professionals, parents and carers, children and young people.

• Experience of planning, delivering and evaluating nutrition based activities for children, young people and their families.

• Experience of working with schools, early years settings and an understanding of the UK education system.

• An awareness, understanding and commitment to the protection and safeguarding of children and young people

• Excellent ICT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Dropbox, Wordpress, Filemaker Pro, Microsoft Teams)

• Ability to use initiative, organise and prioritise work, meet deadlines, and work both independently and as part of a team

• Enthusiasm and a passion for improving the local food environment and increasing access to healthy food in settings where children, young people and families live, learn and play.
