Blackheath Walkers are into eight years of walking as a local community group. Many friendships have been formed. We walk in a variety of amazing locations around Blackheath village each Monday at 8.30am.This is a health walk and the purpose of this program is to promote both regular exercise and create an activity which provides motivation to continue. Walking with a group is more social and less ‘have to’.

Blackheath Walkers meet at Jubilee Park next to Blackheath Oval on Mondays at 8.30am

After the weekly walk, walkers are encouraged to bring their morning tea, and to mix with the entire group.

FROM THE VAULTBest regards to you all from the team at BANC.

If you have not met us yet, please come in say hel-lo. Or if we are in your ambit, please turn your eye and direct your path our way again and reacquaint yourself with us. If you are one of the ‘regulars’, we appreciate you and we hope that you feel likewise.

Our small office base at the rear of the Blackheath Community Centre is busting at the seams. We have been nicknamed the “Tardis” because so much em-anates from our very small space, so much happens within the space itself. Fortunately, our Community Access Service and BOOSH operate from separate bases and we are grateful to our partnerships with Blackheath Public School and Balance Health Care in providing affordable access to buildings from which to offer our day programs for people with disabilities and child care. We could never do it all from Gardiner Crescent.

BANC is looking for community support to solve our space issue. We are constrained in what we can provide to you – the community – and we need to get this sorted so that your amenity in using your neighbourhood centre is improved and we can put on additional staff to meet community needs. Any ideas welcomed! Thanks in advance for your sup-port in this.

As the year progresses, we are getting closer to the release of the revised train timetables. We have not yet given up hope that the Upper Mountains might achieve an hourly service (is this too much to ask?). Please add your voice to this call for a better public transport service through our area. This is vi-tal!!! And urgent! You can make your appeal to our local member or through us here at BANC.

BANC turns the great age of 20 this year and we will be celebrating our maturity at a party / AGM on the Friday 6th December in the early evening. You are most warmly invited to attend and hear about our achievements over the years and our plans for the next 20! BANC has always been a very key part of the local community and it is time to celebrate this!

– Judy Finch, Manager

THE Community Access Service (CAS) is a project of BANC. The service provides living and life skills dev-elopment opportunities for people with a disability as well as a recreation program.

In the Moment – Celebrating the Artistry of People with a Disability

Members of the Community Access Service performed in the “In the Moment” concert at the Joan Sutherland Centre.

This performing arts initiative was funded by Arts NSW Disability Partnership and attended by people with a dis-ability and their carers from the Mountains and Sydney. CAS members performed a tap routine and their own rendition of the 60’s hit “Downtown”.

This annual event is a wonderful opportunity for peo-

ple with a disability to showcase their talents, achieve-ments and special areas of interest. Lawson Community Disco
